Jackie Earle Haley Talks 'Nightmare on Elm Street'!

Some interesting tid bits in here regarding a down to earth Freddy Krueger, Jackie's painful makeup process and the source of his motivation for playing one of the Horror Movie genre's most iconic roles: Freddy Krueger. Plus new pics!!

HITFIX received the Holy Grail of online movie reporting when they were invited to a Nightmare on Elm Street set visit.

HITFIX reminisces about the glorious day when they were graced with the opportunity to visit the Nightmare on Elm Street set.

"At that time, nearly six weeks before Comic-Con and long before any trailers were cut together, we're told that we're the outsiders to see the new look for Freddy Krueger and even as a work in progress, it's shocking. Haley's face is covered in burn tissue. His hands are covered, as are his arms. As we walk into the makeup trailer, Haley's eyes are closed and he's breathing rhythmically.

"I'm just in the chair of torture," he says quietly, barely looking at us.

A reporter asks Haley if he ever feels like wandering through a residential neighborhood like this.

"No..." Haley says, again quite measured. "There's a strong temptation to just rip it off my face, though."

That pesky makeup process has got to be annoying. 6 hours every day, 4 if your lucky. Who am I kidding other then line memorization and a crazy schedule for 4 to 6 months actors have it on easy street.

HITFIX went on to give us a first hand explanation of the NEW version of Freddy Krueger:

"The studio has been careful not to left clear pictures of Freddy make it out into the media. He's always obscured in darkness. Sitting at a table with him, you can't help but stare and jot down notes on the disturbing catalogue of symptoms. For example, Freddy appears not to have ears, an entirely logical victim of a great inferno. He definitely looks Jackie Earle Haley as a burn victim, a diminutive character actor encased within glistening scar tissue, rather than the original Freddy, who looked like Robert Englund with half-a-pound of hamburger distributed evenly over his face. So the effect is simultaneously that Haley is more recognizable within the Freddy mask than Englund ever was, but you don't want to look too closely. There's something alien about him, something almost reptilian."

Too soon? The above pic really isn't a fair comparison, unless off course you think the 'The Scarcrow' from 'The Wizard of Oz' looks like a deranged finger tip knife glove wearing, burn victim? Then I guess you'd be right!

Many thanks to HITFIX for providing the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' set info!

It wont be as great as the original. Nothing will be better than the original with horror movies now a days. But, J.E.H will make it his own and be brilliant. The story and movie may suck but J.E.H will be sick. He is a bad ass actor. Love him on Human Target

This movie better be R rated, and if he's an inocent person accused of being a child killer by the parents, I swear to god I'm walking out of the theaters. I hate the fact Newlines wants a realistic approch with the character. Not every movie has to be like Christopher Nolan's Batman movies. This movie is more likely to fail then be successful. The only good thing Newlines did was making a good decision to who to cast Freddy.

I don't like the makeup in this, from the above picture its already kinda crappy. I am looking forward to this because I did really like the remake of Friday the 13th so hopefully this will be a good take on my favorite Boogeyman.

I just hope its better than the crappy FRIDAY the 13th REMAKE (apart from the boobies) what a load of crap that was!! ; D

So FREDDY's shrunk then right lol?

Nah, hope its good, or i'll be eating ROR's hat too! : D

The hat is fated to be eaten!

InstigatorGIRL- Wow!!! You're an awesome chick for liking the remake of 13TH. There were so many free tits in there it was retina giggling!!! Plus, the performances were pretty much god awful. But the kill scenes were up to par ;)

Can't wait for Freddy! In fact, if they do make an innocent out of Freddy, i'd enjoy that new twist. I think it would just give him a better reason for revenge. But on the other hand, it makes him less psychotic which is pretty much what hooked me about Englund. We'll see how it plays out :)

Sorry but Freddy stopped being freaky after the first movie. This is refreshing to me, and I love the new design of Freddy's burned scar tissue. He really does look more like a burn victim, and personally if someone like him came up to me, I would totally crap myself.
InstigatorGIRL
InstigatorGIRL - 2/22/2010, 3:05 PM
Yes everyone I liked... actually no... I loved the new Friday the 13th. I'm sorry but the acting wasn't atrocious like the orginal one and the kills were awesome. Hell of A LOT BETTER than that Halloween shit Zombie brought out... Also you people have high [frick]ing standards. No one is good in your guys eyes unless they have a tight ass or big bouncy boobs... Its disappointing because for a horror genre movie the acting was not that bad...

flames809 - 2/22/2010, 3:11 PM
i will watch it since i like how they did Friday the 13th

InstigatorGIRL- i agree with you the movie was good and so was the acting and the story to and i also agree with the other thing you said. my favorite part is when the guy from supernatural fights Jason.
Jib7z
Jib7z - 2/22/2010, 3:16 PM
I honestly have to disagree with saying that it looks like Haley with the make up on. Of course, i've only seen the guy in Watchmen. I always thought that Englund was incredibly recognizable as Freddy.
InstigatorGIRL
InstigatorGIRL - 2/22/2010, 3:23 PM
My favorite part was the whole 30 mins before the title. That whole sequence was awesome.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 2/22/2010, 3:35 PM
InstigatorGirl@ You said "no one is good in your eyes unless they have a tight ass or bouncy boobs". The thing is the remake DID have lots of that so we should have loved it if that is what our standards are based on, but the asses and boobies couldn't even save the movie in my opinion. Besides, I personally need more substance for that to enjoy a movie. I felt the movie was a 2-2.5 stars out of 5. It didn't do much for me.

I am so tired of reboots. Why doesn't Hollywood reboot crappy movies? That is what they should be doing. It should be easier to do so and then you aren't messing with classics that are tough to top, regardless of how good technology is now. I have no interest in watching a reboot of this. In most cases for me, the originals are typically always better than the remake.
InstigatorGIRL
InstigatorGIRL - 2/22/2010, 3:53 PM
yossarian. Elm Street use to have its own Comic book. So did Friday the 13th. So that's why it is on here.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about the remake.

THEPHOENIX - 2/22/2010, 5:23 PM
@I-Girl. I agree completely. I too enjoyed the remake of Friday The actors were far better in this than teh original. I was actually against seeing it, and the only reason I went was to see Padeliki in a movie.

@Yossarian. Yeah, ehy don't you go and start that site. When you do, let us know.

The 13th remake rocked it was better than most of the originals, i mean all the movies ever were was T n A and great B movie kills.

MarkCassidy - 2/22/2010, 5:58 PM
Yo Bats, your a creep!

Sorry Instigirl I have to say I hated that 13th remake. It just bored me. It was a pointless remake. The kills were pretty pedestrian too..no shocks or surprises, annoying characters that I couldn't wait to die and Jason was about as intimidating as a 3 year old with a water pistol. I realize that these sort of movies follow a certain formula, and people shouldn't expect Shakespeare, but even for a brainless hack n slash it was pretty bad. I also hated Zombie's Halloween movies, but at least they attempted to do something different. Anyway different strokes and all, just thought i'd stick my oar in because I gave that movie the finger at least 3 times while watching!
blankofthedead
blankofthedead - 2/22/2010, 6:16 PM
The make up is much more innocent looking which i s why it creeps me even more, and its just realistic looking. That is what he'd look like. I see people talking aobut the friday the 13th "remake"... watch the original, thats not a remake, not of the first friday the 13th. The first is amazing
InstigatorGIRL
InstigatorGIRL - 2/22/2010, 7:00 PM
Sorry blank, you're right; it was a "re-imagining" of the whole Friday the 13th series but I also have to disagree. The first Ft13 MOVIE with Mrs. Voorhees was crap all together, the editing was horrible as well as the acting. The whole storyline wasn't creative at all and I was glad they just cut to the chase with the new one. Hell I went to a midnight showing before going to see the remake and we were laughing at how stupid it was. There was a guy who was suppose to be dead and when they flashed to him he blinked. LMAO.

@Ror. Yeah I guess we have agree to disagree sir. lol. See I hated all the back story for Michael Myers that Zombie did. I don't care why he is the way he is, I just wanted to see him kill some babysitters and it seemed to sorely lack in the suspense area or in the kills. I just remember that movie trying to be more emotional than creepy. Also I loved how they actually let Jason run! Now I'm not testifying saying its the greatest, hell I agree it wasn't scary to me either, but it was better than most remakes and deserves its due is all. But nowadays we are so desensitized to movies like that that they are predictable and lack in suspense no matter what angle they come from. Hell even though stupid Saw movies are a joke I fell asleep while trying to watch the first one and the others just bored me to tears.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/22/2010, 8:14 PM
Hate Saw movies too! hah. To be honest I am very hard to please with horror movies. I think a horror movie should attempt to frighten, disturb or at least unsettle you. So all of these so called horror movies with the tits and the silly gore and piss ant characters are not really horror..they are comedy/parody/action,,most i'll give them is Chiller! I never lied any of The FRiday's..nor the Elm Streets. Loved the original Halloween, still think its a masterpiece. As is The Exorcist, American Werewolf, Texas Chainsaw..I even liked The Hills have Eyes.
InstigatorGIRL
InstigatorGIRL - 2/22/2010, 8:39 PM
I agree completely that the original Halloween will always be a classic. I was bored with Exorcist and I hate the Texas Chainsaw movies. But I love American Werewolf (London; not Paris). One of the best Tranformation scenes ever! The original Night of the Living Dead scared me. But I agree none of these movies really come close to making me feel uneasy or scared anymore, and they do rely too much on gore which I can't get into. It doesn't bother me to see it but when thats what they are trying to utilize as the scare of their movie it gets annoying fast. Example would be the Hostel movies. Those were all gore and no real scare; they just sucked really bad.
TheNameIsBetty
TheNameIsBetty - 2/22/2010, 8:59 PM
The original Nightmare on Elm Street really had that creepiness to it that made you afraid to to turn the lights off, just in case it was real. But really, I always thought Robert Englund as Freddy looked goofy when he wasn't trying to kill you.

I think this movie will be awesome. Especially cuz
I L-O-V-E Jackie Earle Haley. He's Rorschach :P

They just gotta keep the creepy elements to it. NO TEENAGER SEX!!!!!!!!!
blankofthedead
blankofthedead - 2/22/2010, 9:46 PM
@ instagatorgirl- i understand not everyone digs the older cheesier quality of the classic slashers, but regardless, the 1st person killing scenes and over an hour long build up to actually see the killer is what makes the movie. Todays movies could ue some anticipation. (not at much as paranormal Activity though)

@ror- seriously fvck the saw movies, idk how they keep getting made. But i think the reason there's so much silliness in horror is because they know most crowds don't actually get scared, just a quick fright, so they amuse in other ways. Thats why I loved Drag Me To Hell, it had some twisted shit and shock value but never took itself too seriously

peterparker420 - 2/22/2010, 10:10 PM
Igirl/ROR- I have to say I couldn't even watch Friday
13th (remake/reimaging) whatever..not good
at all, I fell asleep 30 minutes in!, Anyway

1)Every SAW movie was AWESOME, The 1st time
I saw the 1st movie, my mind was blown
away with that ending! all those death
traps and never ending twist and turns
plot-wise was AWESOME! and ALL the other
FIVE movies were GREAT! Saw 6..the ending
one word..WOW!

2)The Texas Chainsaw massacre, the one with
Jessica Beil..AWESOME! Leatherface never
lood so GOOD (scary-wise), The sheriff
cold and bad-ass! Beil one of her best
performances on film! a great way to look
at an OLD movie in a NEW way! and
TTCM: beginings..PERFECT "origin" movie
the movie came around perfectly and tied
up all the loose ends in the first one..
like 'how did that guy in the wheelchair
lose his legs?' and how did the sheriff
lose his two front teeth. All answered in
TTCM: beginings.

3)Don't get me started on Elm street 1-6 because
Freedy is THE MAN! Robert Englund, AWESOME!
the first one CLASSIC, 2, and 3..OK movies,
4, is GOOD and Ties into 5 (the dream child)
5 was MY FAVORITE!, 6 freedy's dead..AWESOME
GREAT 'origins' movie! the NEW Nightmare..GOOD
cause it came full circle..with 'nancy'.

4)Rob Zombie movies..House of 1,000 corpses..OK
by today's standards, but when it first came
out I thought it was pretty good.
The Devil's Rejects..EPIC!..In my opinion
Zombie's BEST MOVIE! I actually felt bad for the
'bad guys' at the end of the movie, Bill Mosley
GREAT ACTOR! SCARY GUY! great story, great
acting, even a awesome soundtrack. Rejects is
also FULL of nudity, language and GORE. the 3
must have's in a great horror movie.
HALLOWEEN..Good, I like it BETTER than the
original with J L Curtis. Halloween 2..BAD,
BORING, and a total CRAP movie.

OHH great INTERVIEW!..and can't wait to see THIS new one!

and HOW are The SAW movies BORING and HORRIBLE?
blankofthedead
blankofthedead - 2/22/2010, 10:53 PM
@peterparker- first off, nudity, language and gore are not must have's in good horror movies. Nudity is just an addition and most of the greats are missing it. Gore isnt needed in well thought out movies and foul language is good if it fits the content but sometimes its just stupid of not at all needed. And saw?! come on, the first was good at the time, but then again im not a teenager who ignores plot holes. They are GARBAGE now, after the 3rd, any movie ive ever seen in october has had an audience just laughing at the trailers for saw. It's cheap gore and its not clever its like a decent plot for ONE movie that theyve been milking for years. It's awful. By your standards I could say fvck, donate some blood and whip out my dingdong and u'd be satisfied for a horror movie? reevaluate your standards my friends
peterparker420
peterparker420 - 2/22/2010, 11:11 PM
blankofthedead- OK name 5 horror movies that didn't have
any nudity, language and gore. Name
5 horror films that excluded all three
key factors...Hey just cause you don't like
the SAW movies doesn't mean there garbage.
All the plot holes you are refering to get
explained in the next title movie. I would
like to know these ploy holes you refer to
are. Some people DON't like the SAW
movies..that's
OK by me..But my taste is refined..don't
question it, just cause you have a Dawn of
the Dead avatar.

well movies that dont have all 3 or ones that are missing some nad have others? becuase most have gore. Paranormal Activity has none, a couple of F bombs, Let the Right One In doesnt have gor... blood, but you done see much of where that comes from. House, although its goofy, its still a great movie and one of my favorites and its missing all 3. All of the Romera 'DEAD' movis have gore for the time, but for todays standards that wouldn't be gore and either way its missing the language for the most part and the nudity. Drag Me To Hell has a touch if that of gore, and its pg 13. So that will give you much more that 5 when you tally up the dead films. Trust me I like gore and nudity and a lot of times it adds, but they aren't key ingredients. And if they are, they shouldnt be. I think the saw films are garbage because they dont do anyhting but make me laugh at this point. It's just a way to make people grossed out and feel bad for someone, but its not close to scary and it jsut keeps dragging on. I feel like M. Night Shamalans 14 year old step cousin makes these movies.

hawkngo- Stop blaspheming. It was "Perfect Nipple PLACEMENT".

Igirl & Ror- But you see, these movies we're talking about aren't horror movies the moment they have a series. They become "Slasher" movies which are funny than anything. They are no longer about back story or emotions, they are about how the same cool slasher will kill innocents "this time around". Once you come to terms with this, you can better appreciate them. But like everything, it's not for everybody. Me, i'm a huge slasher film buff. I LOVED the new Friday the 13th!!! But even with my slasher film passion, i still feel it fell flat in the acting departement. But i was more than happy about the montain of titties that we got and rightfully so! Although i hated the first friday's, the ones i did enjoy were #4, #6, #7, "Goes to hell" and Freddy vs Jason. As for the Elm St movies, i hated the first and second but enjoyed #3,4,5 and "New Nightmare". They probably were the corniest but the most fun, IMO. But my all time favorite Slasher movie is hands down, Jason X!!! That movie was a dream come true to me :))
