Green Lantern Is Moving To The USA!

Who needs Australia when you got the Red, White and Blue!
Slash Film is reporting that Green Lantern will move from Australia to the USA!!!

This from Slashfilm:

"Update: Not long ago a source mentioned that Green Lantern might be doing some scouting in Louisiana, and I completely spaced it this morning. Same source wrote in just now to say that in fact, the production will shoot in the States next year, likely in or around New Orleans. Does that mean all the work is going to happen here? Not necessarily, but it is a sign that WB at least has a contingency plan."

The WB obviously has a back up plan (they would be ignorant not to)as the budget for this movie is crazy and they view Green Lantern as a major summer tent pole release. What does this mean for the June 17th, 2011 release date? I don't know but stay tuned as I am sure to soon find out.

Yeah it makes sense to do it there if filming in the U.S.
I just surprised that they didn't go to New Mexico.

Both of those states have excellent tax incentives for film productions.
TucsonRican - 8/27/2009, 9:25 AM
noooo...they should make this film by us in the tropics...a green lantern in the caribbean would be kickass for our tourism industry lol...maybe megan fox will act in it and i'd get to see her in the FLESSSHHHHHHHH (black lanterns rule!!!)
Anil Rickly - 8/27/2009, 9:25 AM
Now this is more like it J-man, good find. I'm glad the money stays here in our country for this. There are quite a few states with good tax incentives.
WulfComicFan - 8/27/2009, 9:27 AM

@ Droopy, do you live in the US? If you do, you SHOULD care where it's made. If it gets made here, we get a few more jobs for our citizens.
WulfComicFan - 8/27/2009, 9:43 AM
HAHA No wonder! I just got an email today asking for Air Force personnel who want to participate as in a WB movie. Four minor speaking parts and 24 extras. Guess it's time to polish up the old resume

droopy@ That's what I said a few years back man! I was Army, now AF. These guys get all the luxuries!
MultiPurposePoni - 8/27/2009, 11:38 AM
Multi@ nope it was the union jack (god save the Queen)....Netherlands was originaly orange white and blue before the red came in...:P
teabag - 8/27/2009, 11:40 AM
teabag@ I beg to differ sir. The flag of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is a tricolour of red, white, and blue. It was introduced in 1572 and is the oldest tricolour still in use today. I believe the official transition from orange to red was in the 16th century. When was the Union Jack established?
MultiPurposePoni - 8/27/2009, 11:43 AM
The union jack first refered as the british flag first was flown in 1606....the Netherlands had the first tricolour flag indeed in 1572 but it was orange white and blue the red was introduced arround 1630 in fact today to celebrate a royal birthday they fly an orange peice on top of the flag :P
teabag - 8/27/2009, 11:45 AM
Mankind, no one said anything against Australia. Australia and aussies rock.
It's just that the American economy is spiralling rapidly down the crapper. Every little bit helps
DarthMulder - 8/27/2009, 11:46 AM
teabag@ I did a bit more research. The official national usage date of the Union Jack was 1606, where as for the Netherlands tricolour (orange variant) it was 1572. The orange was replaced by red between 1600 and 1630, with no official date (and no historian has a definitive reason as to why it was changed).

Therefore, since there is no official beginning date to the red, white and blue Dutch flag, the Union Jack stands as the first sovereign red, white and blue tricolour.

And so. . . I concede to you sir! Next time I get out to Lakenheath the pints are on me :)
MultiPurposePoni - 8/27/2009, 12:01 PM
HEHE no worrys just a bit of fun :)
teabag - 8/27/2009, 12:04 PM
teabag@ I think we made history managing to make an association between the Green Lantern and the Dutch. We deserve some damn brownie points!
MultiPurposePoni - 8/27/2009, 12:09 PM
Just happy the movie is being made....
thegreek - 8/27/2009, 1:00 PM

MultiPurposePoni - 8/27/2009, 2:16 PM
Multi@ next we should go for the simalarties between Avengers and Ikea :P

Aim high........thats usualy what happens when i wake up happy..lol
teabag - 8/27/2009, 2:17 PM
Nope, Mankind it is now cheaper to film here. Its nothing personal against you, we love you guys always have. You're Britain's rejects just like us. Me hermano, man! It's just the Australian Dollar is now stronger than the US Dollar.

1 Australian dollar = 0.8353 U.S. dollars

Because of this the budget is automatically 17% gone before they even roll film. Even with Australia's tax breaks they lose 9% profit right off the top because of the exchange rate.

Look at the bright side; it just means your economy is doing better than ours right now. AND!!! Now you can vacation here and get 17% more for your money! That's like a whole pay perview porno added to the room bill is free! Awesome.

nerosday - 8/27/2009, 2:38 PM

Guys, only kidding now! :)
DDD - 8/27/2009, 3:16 PM
teabag@ Avengers and Ikea? That is a hard one.

- The Avengers are a group of superheroes that band together to protect mankind
- Europe created S.H.E. (Super Heroes of Europe), a group of superheros that band together to protect mankind.
- One of S.H.E.'s members is Magma, real name Sven, a citizen of Sweden.
- Ikea was founded in Sweden

That's the best I can do!
MultiPurposePoni - 8/27/2009, 4:33 PM
neros@ ddd@ what's up my capitalist brothers!!!!! :)

just start the damn movie already
superdog - 8/27/2009, 5:06 PM

TonyDark - 8/27/2009, 6:22 PM
NOOO come to Australia... WE HAVE BEER...
Ghola - 8/27/2009, 7:29 PM
If PA would ever get their asses in gear and pass our budget I'd say that there are plenty of places here for them to film. So many movies have already been filmed here, why not add one that I'm interested in seeing? lol
necrosage2005 - 8/27/2009, 8:59 PM
I think there is news that it could film in New Orleans considering the fact that it suffered major economic blow out due to the hurricane and GL production can offer jobs. look it up in the internet. yeah i think that's great. but there is also news that it might film in toronto considering the fact that Ryan is Canadian again look it up in the internet no joke.
Punish88r - 8/27/2009, 9:07 PM
Multi@ very good sir.....uuuughhhh Avengers live in a mansion....a mansion needs STUFF ..uuughhh so they buy it at iKEA....pllssssshhhhh thats about it..lol :)
teabag - 8/28/2009, 12:27 AM
thats crap, the production company is in financial ruins. i know guys who were gona work on the SFX on green lantern in sydney fox studios and WB made every excuse to get out of the contract they signed with Australian filming.

the production company is gona be bankrupt soon anyways and they will need to get more help on the movie. im a huge DC fan and especially GL fan and its very sad the WB cant get their act together with these movies. Australian production rules we make so many movies here that kick ass!

facebook petition lol
boombalarte - 8/28/2009, 5:51 AM
Multi, I always cross my fingers hoping for good things to happen to Uncle Sam's Misfit Children. I hope you land a role. If you could snag a prop for me, do me a favor and gift it to one of your buddies in the hospital. That would be just awesome!

Leee, your internet connection was restored? I THOUGHT that western civilization felt just a little more unsafe this morn! ;- )

I would be quite proud to see parts of Green Lantern filmed in my Homeland, Louisiana. Coon-asses rule the world! A Coon-Ass Lantern Corps? Mais yeah, cher!
bropous - 8/28/2009, 6:45 AM

bropous@ Well I just got word today that I was one of the first 10 people to apply. The casting call has only been open for 24 hours and 80 people already applied. Maybe all the Irishmen on this site can band together and send me some luck LOL
