Confirmation That Disney WILL NOT Interfere In Marvel's Character Development

I was worried for a little while as were the rest of you are now. But after reading this article you all will feel much better about the Disney/Marvel merger.
Before reading the following paragraph from Niki Finke, you need to know whom she is talking about. Bob Iger is the head honcho at Disney and has been after Marvel for quite awhile. Ike Perlmutter is the head honcho CEO at Marvel. These were the two guys responsible for the merger. Now you may read this from Niki Finke:

"Content-wise, the two moguls agreed that Marvel would continue to operate independently of the notoriously micro-managing Disney in the same way that Miramax did under the Weinstein Brothers. Though that probably won't make even hardcore fanboys feel better about the deal they're pissing on all over the Internet yesterday and today. (Given what Iger likes to refer to as the "combustion of digital word of mouth" that operates these days, Iger and Perlmutter have their work cut out for them trying to get skeptical fanboys to believe that Disney has no intention of altering the creative approach which Marvel takes to its comic books and movies. Of course, it helps the corporate confluence between the two companies that Marvel's movie fare has been and will be "PG-13".)

This means that Disney will leave all the character developments to Marvel and not Mickey Mouse them all to hell. This is a marvelous thing. That being said, the future looks pretty bright for comic book movies and it looks like we all will have a generation of them to look forward to.

It's just like how me and some other posters were telling everyone.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 1:04 PM
TYLER @ You would believe it lmao! ; D

Seriously dude, i hope im wrong but don't celebrate just becoz they said maybe BS to everyone! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:05 PM
And you would be a complete pessimist and believe that everything would suck just because Disney owns Marvel now.

One more time, Disney is not making the movies. Marvel Studios still is.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 1:07 PM
Marvel have spoken openly about their movie plans for the next 5yrs and Disney will have looked closely at that. The tone has been set for these movies already and the success of Iron-Man alone gives Disney no reason to interfere. Pirates of the Caribbean 2&3 are much darker than any Marvel film so worrying about the grit getting sucked out is a needless exercise.

So I think Disney will let Marvel follow through with their plans. Marvel now have more money to do this with and if things go well we could even see Disney making a play for Marvels lost characters with X-Men and Spiderman coming back.

In short, this looks like it can only be a good thing and people need to open their eyes to it.
Ron - 9/2/2009, 1:09 PM
finally, the rage can end.

as i type that i see there's a disney banner ad below this box and mickey mouse is peering at me eyes wide open. -shivers-
1Rocketeer - 9/2/2009, 1:09 PM
Disney knows how to make movies. They've been around for decades, and have made some of the best movies, not just for kids to enjoy, but that still hold up today as classics.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 1:10 PM
How can people still be so worried??? Disney owns Miramax, Touchstone...has made movies like the Dead Poets Society, Pulp Fiction, the Royal Tenenbaums, Kill Bill, and Good Morning Vietnam, They even own the production company that makes Grey's Anatomy. I'm not saying these are all great movies, but definitely not for kids or "dumbed down". Things will be fine, and we have not seen ANYTHING to show that it won't be ok. When Disney does something bad to Marvel, I'll worry then. There is no reason to complain right now...at all.
Bamf7 - 9/2/2009, 1:10 PM
Cool i just saw a disney advertisment here lol
Weiner123 - 9/2/2009, 1:11 PM
How can ppl not still be worried lol!

Their gonna [frick] this up! ; (
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:13 PM
Tyler - Preach on! I'm with you all the way! Together we can convert LEE, or mock him for his over the top pessimism!

Bamf7 - Well said sir! I couldn't understand the panic when this news 1st broke and can't believe people are still up in arms over this!
Ron - 9/2/2009, 1:14 PM
haha, whoever spent time to make that Ironpony...good job :P as weird as it is, it takes skill

TRUST is EARNED! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:18 PM
Jman1977, thanks for posting this.

Very positive indeed.

But can you really blame people for being nervous?
Especially after what that bunghole on G4 said.
DarthMulder - 9/2/2009, 1:20 PM
I can't blame people for being a bit cautious, but I can blame people who exclaim that everything is going to go to hell and that Marvel movies will be total suck fests from now on.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 1:21 PM
I'm with Tyler on this too, I'm not worried, People are just freakin out over the initial news...give it time, and everyone will see nothing will change
davidzuck - 9/2/2009, 1:22 PM
We will see @ DarthMulder @ We will see! ; )

An very cool AVATAR!

TYLER @ PPL are not saying all the MARVEL movies will suck from now on, just some may be change or bumped, or lost!

No one with half a brains gonna jump in an say okay panic over they said this so its all true pantic over lol!

Its good to be cautious!

But thanx @ JMAN @ It is brighter news, hopefully DISNEY will stick to it! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:22 PM
How about Disney buying transformers next awwww thats so cute lol

Weiner123 - 9/2/2009, 1:22 PM

InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 1:27 PM
?

Weiner123 - 9/2/2009, 1:28 PM
@ LEEE - Let me give you a run down of some films that have been released by Miramax, another studio that Disney owns.

Reservoir Dogs
Clerks
The Crow
Pulp Fiction
Trainspotting
From Dusk Til Dawn
Hellraiser Bloodline
Dont Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood
Copland
Jackie Brown
Mimic
54
Rounders
Dogma
Princess Mononoke
The Talented Mr Ripley
Gangs of New York
Kill Bill

I'm gonna go ahead and stop there. Point is, just cause Disney owns something, it doesnt mean they're gonna try to take total control. They know what they're doing, thats why they have so much goddam money. I really think this buyout is gonna end up being great.

Imagine the budget's these Marvel films can have now. They don't have to worry about spacing out all their movies in the future due to budgetary concerns. We could get 4-5 Marvel movies funded a year with Disney putting up the cash for it. And the fact that Pixar may be involved in future Marvel projects is nothing short of awesome.
dizzongster - 9/2/2009, 1:28 PM
LMFAO @ WEINER!!!! ; D

DISNEY IS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!

LORD @ Exactly! ; )

DIZZ @ You forgot a lot of the dogs and crap they've also done lol, an theres one COMIC BOOK movie there!

I hope DISNEY keeps to what their saying, then WE all win but if not.................
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:28 PM
Yeah, right, they won't interfere...
Inohaku - 9/2/2009, 1:29 PM
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet kool beans
Marvel Rules - 9/2/2009, 1:30 PM
End of the day their not going to tell everyone they are going to interfere....

Think about it! : D
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:32 PM
Ok Dizz, here's the problem with your logic, the Weinsteins left Miramax because Disney was too controling and they took Kevin Smith and the rest of their creativity with them.
LordHumongous - 9/2/2009, 1:33 PM
It's funny. I heard a bunch of people saying "we need a statement from them saying they won't interfere!" and now they have done that, and people are still complaining. Funny, isn't it?
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 1:35 PM
@LordHumongous - They left because issues with Farenheit 9/11. That's one movie. That was a highly political movie, and it was a sensitive time in American cinema. That and Michael Moore likes to make up bullshit facts and stretch the truth of his documentaries with clever editing. I'd probably wanna cut up his shitty movies too if I was in charge :P
dizzongster - 9/2/2009, 1:37 PM
of course they aren't going to mess things up. they would lose half their fan base if they did. no company is that stupid. if you owned, lets say a resaurant, would you turn around and tell regular customers that have been coming to your restaurant for years that you no longer want their business?? of course you wouldn't. so what makes you all think disney / marvel would?? come on people, think...no company is going to do something to lose half their business...
CorndogBurglar - 9/2/2009, 1:43 PM
@ tyler

yes it is, funny, and irritating. this isn't a hard thing to understand. disney messing with marvel's characters would lose all their older fans. why would they do something like that? it would be idiotic
CorndogBurglar - 9/2/2009, 1:44 PM
LEEE, Disney own Lost.. I'm sure you like Lost!

But yeah, this article is good news.. But we'll all have to wait and see..

Zac Efron as Captain America, Vanessa Ann Hudgens as Wasp and Corbin Bleu is The Black Panther
Imran - 9/2/2009, 1:45 PM
Tyler, all it takes is 1 Mom saying, "My son is reading those comics you own Disney and they are highly offensive. I'm going to start a boycott of all Disney products!" Then that one Mom writes a blog about it and goes on Oprah. Then Disney is screwed. Or they tune down Marvel. Which one is easier?

Dizz, if Kevin Smith isn't pro-Disney than I'm not pro-Disney.
LordHumongous - 9/2/2009, 1:45 PM
Its not the companies, its THE SUITS in it!

Believe it when i see it lol!

But hope your right1 ; )

LORD @ EXACTLY dude!!!

Imran @ Lol! : D
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:46 PM
@ lordhumongous

chances are, that mother's kid is already reading marvel comics, before the merger.

@ leee

the suits are in it for money, not LOSING money by driving away old fans!
CorndogBurglar - 9/2/2009, 1:47 PM
Just like FOX then! ; D

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:48 PM
SEE!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Buy them all back and bring them home Marvel!
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 1:50 PM
Just remember one thing friends: You never know what's going to happen until it happens.

This news article is reassuring, but I for one will not be dismissing any opinions.

DarthMulder - 9/2/2009, 1:50 PM
Don't compare Fox to Disney. Fox were the makers of X-Men Origins, X3, etc.

Marvel are the makers of Captain America, Iron Man 2, Avengers, etc. Disney is not.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 1:50 PM
DARTHMULDER @ Is right, words of wisdom!

Lets just all wait an see! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 1:52 PM
Corndog, if I'm understanding this correctly, your argument is that everyone that will ever read comics already has?
LordHumongous - 9/2/2009, 1:53 PM
SWEET!!!!!!!
NightAvenger4 - 9/2/2009, 1:54 PM
Also doomsayers, I understand how you feel.
But this quote from Ms. Finke makes it sound like no less than two CEO's went out of their way to reassure us.

That's a lot more than we ussually get. It says a lot.
Could it still be bullshit int he long run? Yes.

But it probably isn't.
DarthMulder - 9/2/2009, 2:01 PM
Lordhumongus -

You say if Kevin Smith isn't pro-disney, then you aren't.

Did you know that Miramax, under DISNEY, put out Clerks, Chasing Amy, and all of the other Jay and Silent Bob movies that Kevin Smith was a part of? What say you now?
Bamf7 - 9/2/2009, 2:04 PM
thank the Force...
Denn1s - 9/2/2009, 2:11 PM
Darn, I was hoping Disney would do revamps that would actually do the comics justice
Jimdlux - 9/2/2009, 2:12 PM
Bamf, I know that. Kevin Smith left Miramax when the Weinsteins did.
LordHumongous - 9/2/2009, 2:13 PM
@ humongous

actually no, what i was trying to say is that if a kid is reading a comic, chances are its not his/her first. and the fact that its a kid, means that the parents are buying them for said kid. so it shouldn't be a shock for anyone to see what marvel is putting out. but after thinking about it a minute, i see your point. putting faith in people's parenting skills, and actually getting involved and educated in their child's interests is probably asking for too much, lol.
CorndogBurglar - 9/2/2009, 2:16 PM
Thank you Corndog! Now I'll just say that I'm only being cautious about how I feel about this and having some fun.
LordHumongous - 9/2/2009, 2:19 PM
LordHumongous, That statement couldn't be anymore WRONG. The entire catholic church got on Disney's ass over the movie Dogma, and Disney, in a polite way, told the church to [frick] off. You honestly think some disgruntled mothers could get them to change that stance? And I've not heard Kevin Smith speak either way, but I know that every one of his films were done through Miramax, a Disney owned production company, so if Kevin Smith is indeed 'anti-Disney" then he is only biting the hand that feeds. Disney owns the distribution rights to Vivid Entertainment, a [frick]ing porn company, and that is only 1 of 5 porn companies they own. In the 90's Disney enlisted the likes of Glenn Danzig and others in an attempt to cover that aspect of the metal market, and if anyone has heard of Danzig, you know this guy sings about sadomasochism, genital mutilation, rape, sex with Demons and so on. Disney even made a statement saying that Danzig was just 'misunderstood'

Dammit people!!! Chill the [frick] out!! You think that Disney will break it's track record of non-interference and full support of what makes their subsidiaries unique now that they have Marvel? That has got to be the dumbest shit I've heard all year! I mean, do any of you pessimists actually look up information to give your arguments merit? or just forgo any rational thought and research to rabidly blast something you clearly have so little knowledge of? Look some shit up folks, stop making yourselves look like retards, because that is ALL your succeeding in.
TheMyth - 9/2/2009, 2:19 PM
Cough lets cough wait an cough see! ; D
LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 2:20 PM
I'm glad this was posted here. Seemed like we were in the end of days when the news first broke for some people here. ha...

Seriously, most Marvel movie plots are crap anyways (except for Spiderman 2 and Iron Man). Disney could only make things better.
LexLuthor - 9/2/2009, 2:21 PM
oh my god is it realy over?!!!!!!!!!
legder20 - 9/2/2009, 2:21 PM
In the long run I think Marvel is going to get stronger. With Pixar and Miramax at their disposal they can crank out some great stuff. Especially, when Disney are cutting the checks to help fund these projects. Miramax released Jay and Silent Bob and if anyone went through the cut scenes you'll see this merger in a positive way. Look for the 'bullfrog' and 'Scooby's lipstick' scenes. Some serious f'd up and funny stuff.

On the TV side they also have Desperate Housewives, Lost (as mentioned above) and Grey's Anatomy.

This will only widen thier portfolio. I hope this will add some massive leverage to buy or regain those rights back from Fox.

I'm not gonna be naive and think nothing is going to happen, but I do think some of the struggling titles might be cancelled.

TheMyth is right about Dogma. Catholic churches were pissing in their pants over this movie.

Any movie production that releases a movie with the below content has to be really flexible.
* Bloody bodies, limbs, heads and fingers being severed (Kill Bill)
* Fart/gay/butt sex jokes, ATM, and a guy and his donkey, weed and drug dealers [sic] (Clerks 2)
* More decapitating and more bloody bodies (Kill Bill 2)
* A penciler in love with a lesbian (Chasin Amy)
* Salma Heyek in a bikini with an albino python shindigging with a bunch of truckers and latino vampires (From Dusk Till Dawn)
* Taratino Masterpiece (Pulp Fiction, nuff said)
* Cynobites gone wild (Hellraiser Bloodline)
* Prostitutes, Boo Boo Kitty Fukk, Scooby's lipstick, Lesbians, Fart Jokes, gay jokes, and the Cock Knocker, more weed and a Drug Dealers Union. (Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back)
* Salma in a bikini again as a stripper, The Excremental Golgothan the shit demon, Jason Lee as a demon, more gay/butt sex/fart jokes, more weed and the same two drug dealers, Alan Rickman as an angel and Alanis Morrisette as God.

I can go for days kiddies. But you get the point. Chill, drink a beer and get laid. Snoogans!

SirPrize - 9/2/2009, 2:22 PM
disney owns marvel.. ok.. is the world going to end? geeks losing sleep, erections.. all for nothing. dude's need to get out and get a social life.
InFamouslyCool - 9/2/2009, 2:23 PM
LEEE, you are exactly right, Disney signs Danzig and allows him to keep singing about Satanism and sodomy, they own 5 porn companies, and pump out movies like Reservoir Dogs as often as they do a Tinkerbell movie, yet I'm sure they feel TOTALLY different about Marvel. LEEE, your a cool guy, but you are really making yourself seem utterly ignorant, and I'm starting to think you want to take Supermike's old role as the most hated man on CBM
TheMyth - 9/2/2009, 2:26 PM
I like how Lee is now all "Well let's just wait and see ; )"

But before he was like "Lets just wait an see them screw projects up! ; )

DISNEY will DOOM lot'sa projects!"
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 2:31 PM
MYTH @ That wasn't directed at you lol, nothing wrong with being cautious, DISNEY is a BIG company, companies like elections CHANGE anything they want if they decide its for the better even if it is not!

Im not gonna jump in an say YIPPEEEE!

DISNEY has gotta EARN it, an they ain't earned Jack yet.

I hope it does work out i really do!

But as PRIME says lol , what if im right!

Just don't trust 'em till they do something that earns that trust! ;)

TYLER @ Don't start sh!T lol.

LEEE777 - 9/2/2009, 2:31 PM
Woah Myth! I just said I was having some fun. Kevin Smith did jump ship with the Weinsteins though. His latest movies were put out by the Weinstein Company. So, count to 10, smoke a J, whatever.

LordHumongous - 9/2/2009, 2:32 PM
Tyler he's just coming around slowly, that's all. It's cool.

Also he may be thinking of allthe great "I told you so" rights he gets to have if they start filming My Little X Ponies in a few years.
DarthMulder - 9/2/2009, 2:37 PM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Yes, goooood. Goooood. Strike them down, take back your properties. Yes, Marvel, unleash your anger! You wish you never had to whore them out now take the money of Disney and buy them all back!!! Gooood. Go to Fox and Sony and say "I want my shit!" HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I'm not worried yet. Hell, in fact I'm getting more optimistic. How many times have all of us lamented about the state of the Marvel movies that were shopped out to other studios? Especially FOX. How many of you are actually excited about the prospect of three more Spidermans with the same guy that plays a weepy Peter and an uninteresting and almost bitchy MJ? Who wants another version of X-Men and FF and Ghost Rider and Daredevil bent over and ass raped by FOX? Seriously.

Say what you want about Disney, but this gives Marvel POWER! PURE UNLIMITED UNSTOPABLE POWER!!! Come with me to the dark side on this one. We stand on the edge of a true united Marvel film Universe. We can finally see cameos and crossovers that have heretofore been only dreamt of by Fanboys. It can all come home, united under Marvel. We've all said we wanted this for years. HERE IT IS.

nerosday - 9/2/2009, 2:39 PM
Does this mean we may be in reboot hell for a while? Sure, we'd have to be. Or they may just pull an Incredible Hulk and give us a quick recap and run with it. Does it mean new casts? Sure, but who has been all that happy we the casts we were given in the first place? Alba, Gruffudd, Dunst, Affleck, Garner, Cage; the other studios have had more misses than hits in the casting department when you step back and look at it. marvel has given us RDJ and Jackson and Norton by comparison. All previous mistakes can be wiped away. They can cleanse the demons! Give these characters back to people that respect them and can choose good directors and actors who can truly live in these parts and bring their world to life.
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 2:41 PM
LordHumongous, dude, I'm just gettting sick of people bitching about this. My 'Nerd Rage' stem's from a numbing lack of research skills so many people keep demonstrating. And I'm all out of KY Bluegrass, or I would smoke a J!!!

Nerosday, lol, preach it.
TheMyth - 9/2/2009, 2:45 PM
Myth - I couldn't agree more. Sure, maybe Disney has to "earn" the right to be respected for their work on comic movies. But they sure haven't "earned" the right to have everyone complain about it already. I personally think it's great that only 3 days into this they yank the Spiderman cartoon back. Isn't this what we've been asking for since forever? For Marvel to take things back from Sony, Fox, etc? Like Nerosday said...it might get rough for a minute or two, but if that's what it takes to have everything done right, it's worth it.
Bamf7 - 9/2/2009, 2:49 PM
All let's go to our happy place...

Myth read my scribe above.
SirPrize - 9/2/2009, 2:50 PM
this is good..im so happy to hear cause at first i was freaking out too but i think that in the long run all this means is that marvel just has deeper pockets to make their movies better and now they can even make some characters that they couldnt before cause they wouldnt translate to screen right so now some of those characters would be perfect for pixar!!!!!Marvel knows how seriuos they fans take all this and they wouldnt put that in jeopardy
bestofdabest899 - 9/2/2009, 2:50 PM
Why don't we all chip in and buy Marvel lol
Imran - 9/2/2009, 2:52 PM

Rumblebeast - 9/2/2009, 3:09 PM
Corndog, I think EVERYONE had an initial reaction of, "Oh [frick] no, please no, AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" but only because the initial image of Disney popped in our heads right off, then people started to remember that Disney isn't just the 'Mickey Mouse Club' Some people just can't see facts in front of their face.

SirPrize, that picture of Pikachu is disturbing, like a nightmare I once had. Thank you for adding to the list of vulgarities produced by Disney, lol. People need to just sit back and chill, I can't see anything getting worse, only shit getting better.
TheMyth - 9/2/2009, 3:11 PM
TheMyth - I didn't mean for you to remember that particular nightmare. I dream of boobs, jungles and lots of hot ladies. I added that list so people will remember what was in those movies.

Marvel will be alright and I honestly don't think Marvel would sell themselves out. I remember when they almost filed bankruptcy.

Bottom line: Same boss, different boss.
SirPrize - 9/2/2009, 3:15 PM

Makiveli21 - 9/2/2009, 4:07 PM
im not that worried. the marvel movies really cant get any worse (spiderman 3, wolverine) ...i mean for real, the only way to go is up. the avengers movies are already at least planned out and i dont think disney will have a negative influence on them. and the comic books are in the middle of the "dark reign". i dont think mickey or goofy is going to join up with norman osbornes dark avengers anytime soon. but maybe this disney thing will spike the value of some of those old classic marvel comics that we all have layin around (bagged and boarded of course).

Well. It's up to them now. Disney ought to know that yes the fanboy audience is largely in the bag, no matter what.

The only question is will they actuallyb buy tickets merchandise and DVD's, or will they watch the first 5 minutes of the film online for free and then spend the rest of the afternoon throwing up in the toilet.
Acerimmer1 - 9/2/2009, 4:33 PM
Just like I thought, Marvel is just fine! "Make Mine Marvel Forever!" :D

Just like DC was fine under Warners.
DDD - 9/2/2009, 4:37 PM
Hey Sirprize, I was going to ask where your boobie avatar is, but now it doesn't matter. I think my penis has gone into hibernation after that disgusting picture. That's terrible Red Skull!
Tobuttica - 9/2/2009, 4:43 PM
will there be cursing in the movies.
GunRyder - 9/2/2009, 4:44 PM
@ myth

i agree! when i first heard the news, the first thing i posted in the article was something along the lines of, "i think they should make Beauty and the Hank McCoy their first cross over."

but when it gets down to it, and i started thinking about it, i mean REALLY thinking about it, disney would lose too much money if they kiddied everything up. there are just as many, if not more regular adult fans as kid fans. and pushing the adult fans away would make this entire deal worthless. its as easy as that for me. just calm down and think, you'll be surprised what comes into your head sometimes, lol.

@ humongous

i do like your jokes man, you always crack me up, hell your avatar and name alone do it everytime i look at it. WHO RUNS BARTER TOWN???????? MASTER BLASTER RUNS BARTER TOWN!
CorndogBurglar - 9/2/2009, 4:45 PM
My initial reaction was surprise, since the news came out of nowhere. Then, I just was like "Okay. I don't see what all the fuss is about."
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 4:47 PM
@ LEEE

Damn dude, thats your girl!?!?!?!?! SSSAAAAWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
CorndogBurglar - 9/2/2009, 4:47 PM
Corndog, lol, poking fun is all good. I watched that video in the article about Hitler finding out about the merger... I had to watch it twice I laughed so hard, but these Doom-sayers are getting on my [frick]ing nerves. No one would be bitching if they knew about half the shit Disney produces.

Tyler, same, it took less than 2 minutes for the rationality to set in and I was fine with it, even excited. My only worry was tampering with the Comic creativity, then I realized that I was foolish to even sweat it.
TheMyth - 9/2/2009, 4:50 PM
All I got to say to this headline is...

Hellz yeah!
whiteassmatt - 9/2/2009, 4:53 PM
TheMyth: That Hitler vid was hilarious. I don't care that it was saying the deal would be the end of the world, because it was just a joke. People are taking this too seriously.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 5:01 PM
Looks like the COOLER-heads came out right in this one! Thank Goodness!
DDD - 9/2/2009, 5:01 PM
I don't believe it for a second. They pay 4 billion and will stay out of it,,, yeah right.
spideysweb - 9/2/2009, 5:03 PM
verryy optimistic . ty to themyth, intylerwetrust and others for being rational during this time of great prospects. LEEE dude i don't get how a knowlegdeable fan and poster like yourself could worry or insight anxiety over this . all reasonable facts lead to us getting soooo much of what we want. lifelong truebeliever
undeadpool - 9/2/2009, 5:03 PM
I knew this would only be good news for Marvel but all I've heard for 2 days is "the sky is falling, the sky is falling ," it's gonna be otay.
Hawksblueyes - 9/2/2009, 5:06 PM
What is up with that chick in the picture, I wouldn't do her with supermike's d**k
ASSASSIN666 - 9/2/2009, 5:20 PM
Well that makes me feel a lil better.
Bandrews1 - 9/2/2009, 5:27 PM
Thank God Thank God Callin all Geeks Calling Geeks Call off the hit of disney CEOs and Marvel CEOs I repeat Call off the hit of disney CEOs and Marvel CEOs
Jameskid00 - 9/2/2009, 5:28 PM
Spideysweb, they paid twice that for Pixar, and let them maintain full creative control. Come up with another reason, one that makes sense. I challenge you.
TheMyth - 9/2/2009, 5:36 PM
Spideysweb: Sorry, but I gotta agree with Myth on his comment.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 5:43 PM
hola {frikin} luya! lets hope they stay true to their word!
Apacalypse - 9/2/2009, 5:57 PM
@ Myth - you beat me to the Pixar comment man! I see we are pretty much on the same page with this whole deal.
dizzongster - 9/2/2009, 5:58 PM
luffy: It sucks that Disney is letting Marvel make the movies they want to make????
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/2/2009, 6:01 PM
@Tyler, some people just want to keep crying "The sky is falling!", even if the sky is higher than it ever has been! Hysterical silly billies!
DDD - 9/2/2009, 6:05 PM
WORDS...

They mean nothing in print or spoken when deeds will triumph over them all. I don't trust Disney. I give them anywhere from 6 to 24 months to make drastic changes. And when it happens, the usual apologetic zealots will defend them as pragmatic, but it will happen. If not, I'll eat my words in two years and be glad about it.
Phinehas - 9/2/2009, 6:07 PM
lol then don't trust them, that doesn't change the fact that they have a long track record of buying companies, and it ALWAYS turns out to be great for the company they acquire. Everyone is just pissing and moaning because this time, it was Marvel that was acquired. Their record speaks for itself, and what it says is that nothing will change other than Marvel having more money at their disposal and they stand A LOT better chance of gaining the rights back to their properties.
TheMyth - 9/2/2009, 6:14 PM
As Long as Disney doesn't have anything to do with making the movies iam ok with it I guess
Koussan - 9/2/2009, 6:31 PM
Paranoid much??? The man couldnt have said any clearer than he did in the interview that Disney wants to sit back and let Marvel make them money and if called upon, will help Marvel do so.
Hawksblueyes - 9/2/2009, 6:54 PM
Wow all of who are still spouting doom and gloom need to shut it. I can understand a healthy amount of doubt like LEE holds, but to out right continue to say this is the worst thing to ever happen to marvel is an action of a mental pygmy at this point.
thwhtGuardian - 9/2/2009, 7:06 PM
Thats good news...if they do a Daredevil reboot, I say get John Farveau to direct it..since he starred in the 2003 mediocre version of Daredevil. He has done a great job with the Iron Man franchise thus far and I think he would breathe new life into Daredevil
Agent13 - 9/2/2009, 7:49 PM
Ahhh... Sigh of relief
TheCritic17 - 9/2/2009, 8:12 PM
I agree with Myth and Tyler and all the others calling for calm.

Come my Fanboy brothers and sisters, Disney does have a great trackrecord for allowing companies they purchase to retain creative control over their properties. Everybody just needs a good dose of Chillax (generic name: Shudafukupinsitdafukdown); or a hand full of Xanax if ya got 'em (which I do).

This will be a good thing in the end. Marvel wanted to please us and be respectful of their own properties (and make an ass load of money, but I like to think the best of people; so we'll go with the other reasons first) that's why they started making these flicks themselves. But making movies is a high priced high risk business and Marvel started out with more faith than capital, one serious bomb could literally have broken them. Now they have a safety net in Disney, and enough funds to spin out a whole Marvel Universe for us (Which I'm sure many will bitch about anyway).

In the end I'm just asking for a little faith my brothers and sisters (Man that brothers and sisters line is starting to sound like Mick Jagger pleading for the Hell's Angels to stop stabbing hippies at Altamont). Out of all the studios who have given us comic book schlock over the last ten years Marvel has been the best when it came to giving us what we want because they want the same thing we do; Marvel heros treated with respect and veneration of their traditions and source material presented in a realistic way with quality actors, directors, and good stories. I don't think any of that is going to change.
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 8:18 PM
meh. As long as they make Captain America and make it good, you'll hear no complaint from me
DarthMulder - 9/2/2009, 8:42 PM
Man Cap will rock with that kind of cash behind it. I'm talking Saving Private Ryan level of WWII detail. That'll be awesome.

SUCK IT TONY!
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 8:58 PM
I feel like I just han the Lando Calrissian pulled on me by Marvel. I think Marvel will reign back in and do some good for us down the line though.
AvengersBig4 - 9/2/2009, 9:00 PM

Doesn't get any better'n that.
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 9:01 PM
Damn shame they had to kill that albino humming bird to get the wings for cap's mask... Those [frick]ers are endangered ya know.
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 9:13 PM
OH yeah.. now yer talkin! Nice pics, Nero. Very nice.

I do think they should stick to the classic look just like in your pics, hokey wings and all. But they don't have to be real wings.. lol
DarthMulder - 9/2/2009, 9:20 PM
Oh, but they do Mulder; they do. LOL

I like the idea of the semi GI uniform for the WWII origin badge style shield and all, then bring out the look we all know and love for the Avengers. Could really be sweet.
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 9:27 PM

You think this A on my head stands for Asshole?! Really?

I think the hole in you head statds for "Oh, my God I just got shot in the head by Captain Asshole!!!" When Captain America throws his .45 ACP!!! The hole in a Nazi's head will not soon be healed!

Captain Asshole indeed. (scoffs). I suppose I could have grilled him for intel, oh well. Freakin' 'Roid rage, super soldier serum.
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 9:37 PM
Yeah. I like the old chevron shield and uniform for the WWII segments then the new round shield when Cap wakes up in the present.
DDD - 9/2/2009, 9:39 PM
best news this week...what a relief
arielito92 - 9/2/2009, 9:53 PM
Like your new avatar DDD.
nerosday - 9/2/2009, 9:56 PM
This article has quelled a lot of concerns but I'm still holding to some reservations about the idea of Disney not letting Marvel go on as they originally were - when I start seeing actually development work on Thor I'll slide on over to %100 and comforted that its business as usual for the best studio out there.
WeaponX - 9/2/2009, 10:03 PM
Photobucket
parascythe - 9/2/2009, 10:03 PM
Funny, say does anybody know who that girl with the claws that sits on juggernaut's shoulder in that marvel characters poster is?
shibbmeister - 9/2/2009, 10:18 PM
Well Weapon X, you probably won't have long to wait. Pre production is well underway, and they are set to start filming in January.
Who knows how often Branaugh and his people will throw us table scraps of info about what's going on, but I doubt he will be as open as Favreau about it. Few are.

I CANNOT wait to see that first pic of Hemsworth in costume!!!

DarthMulder - 9/2/2009, 10:19 PM
I understand the concern because I think we all thought the same thing as soon as the news broke, but like a lot of people have already said, we can't harp on it too much because nothing has happened yet. I'm pretty sure they know that if they screw this up they are going to have a serious fan backlash. I mean if we get this intense and heated on the internet, what is going to happen when the mess up a movie? I'm predicting boycotts and many angry letters if that does happen but the bottom line is it hasn't yet. I say we keep an open mind and hope for the best.
LadyArkham - 9/2/2009, 10:20 PM
@shibbmeaister: It's X23. The little Wolverine clone.
DarthMulder - 9/2/2009, 10:25 PM
I'm glad there are a lot of people with their heads still screwed tightly to their necks! I never thought "Oh, shit" over this. I was surprised at 1st just because it was out of the blue, but I soon thought about the positives.

dizzongster has a quick list of some Disney related movies on here and LEE has pointed out there is only one CBM on there. Thing is, that one CBM is The Crow, not only one of the most critically acclaimed CBM's but one that has no "gloss" and an 18 certificate!

No one can be 100% sure about whats going to happen but do your research and you will find all evidence (Disneys previous buy-outs, previous films from sister companies, etc.) pointing to better CBMs. Everything suggests Marvel will retain control, Disney will give bigger budgets and therefore wider choices of actors/FX, etc. and we may even get X-Men back from Fox!
Ron - 9/3/2009, 3:16 AM
Just imagine, next year, COMIC CON 2010 IN DISNEYLAND !

Going to Disneyland to see all my favorite cmarvel characters like elektra, phoenix, black widow etc....
Gose - 9/3/2009, 4:35 AM
@ luffy

i hate you and your lame ass anime videos. did i mention i hate you? did anyone mention that bleach is lame?? in every article you post those damn videos, and there is ALWAYS someone that tells you its annoying. do you just like being annoying??? are you "that guy"?
CorndogBurglar - 9/3/2009, 6:37 AM
Yeah Luffy why do you keep spamming those lame anime videos? I think we've asked you to stop..

DarthMulder - 9/3/2009, 6:44 AM
@ howlett

well said, these haters are killing me. the crow was great! especially for its time. there is no evidence what so ever that this is the end of marvel comics and movies as we know them. also, i would kill for a marvel produced x-men and daredevil movie!!
CorndogBurglar - 9/3/2009, 7:14 AM
@ mulder

whats up man. yeah, i don't know why it irritates me so much, its annoying seeing the same video that no one cares about though. lol CORNDOGBURGLAR SMASH!!!!!

@ Gose

hey, i never thought of that! could you imagine the conventions disney could throw at the magic kingdom?? i live about 45 minutes away from disnley world in florida. i would be all over that in a heartbeat! i already go to megacon every year, but a comic convention at disney would be...well like heaven, quite frankly.
CorndogBurglar - 9/3/2009, 7:20 AM
I can see both sides of this debate. Both sides raise some valid points. Personally, I'm a bit leery of Disney, as I am leery of all these megacorporations, a distrust earned by many years of watching them in action, and years of watching faceless suits screw things up one way or another. I'm still willing to be a little patient, and wait to react until Disney actually DOES do something to really react.

My first reaction honestly was "this isn't good!", but maybe some good WILL come from this. Now that Marvel is making its own movies, this can only strengthen their chances of getting back the rights to the FF, the X-Men, and/or Spidey. If Disney decides they want these rights, they do have the legal muscle to make it happen. I hear Sony is going to stop producing Spectacular Spidey. Disney certainly has the animation resources to take over the show, and bring it more under Marvel's control. At least put the damn show back on Saturday mornings where I can find it again!
comicb00kguy - 9/3/2009, 7:34 AM
I think they need to reinvent Comicon.

I know a lot of comic book traders that really want to see them move ALL the movie stuff over to moviecon. But not me. I like it with everything in one.

If they moved it to a bigger venue and then worked the thing like an indoor festival, it would allow for the massive growth in attendance.
They could erect giant screens and coordinate things so that everyone can see the movie trailers, not just those that are willing to sit in line all night and all day. Anyway.. the system is broken like it is.

I have this ambition about going in 2011. I am building a very unique costume, and I want to be a competitor in the contest. it will ruin it all if I have to decide between going to the contest and waiting in line to be among those that will ge to see the Avengers trailer first. Can you imagine the pressure of having to decide between those two?
DarthMulder - 9/3/2009, 7:35 AM
@ Nero.....Where did you get those pics of Cap made up? Please elaboarte further on them. I would really very seriously appreciate it. Thank you for your time.
