Marvel's Ant-Man has been in development with Edgar Wright since before Iron Man was released in 2008, and despite now having a 2015 release date, an ensemble cast, and a filming date scheduled, the studio and director have announced today that they are parting ways on the project.

“Marvel Studios and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film, read an official statement from the studio, today. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”

As mentioned in the statement, Ant-Man is still scheduled for release on July 17, 2015, and an undisclosed director has already been hired. However, we still don't know if Edgar Wright's longtime production teamproduction designer Marcus Rowland, composer Steven Price, and cinematographer Bill Popeare still attached to the film which will follow Avengers: Age of Ultron and launch "Phase 3" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anyhow, the cast includes Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena and Patrick Wilson. What do you think?

UPDATE: Despite a director supposedly being announced "shortly," sources have informed the folks at Variety that "Marvel is zeroing in on a new director, but is not yet in negotiations with one." Also, an hour before news broke that Edgar Wright was leaving Ant-Man, Patrick Wilson, who's rumored to play a younger Hank Pym in the film, tweeted that the "big news" was coming. Now that it's out, Wilson has further commented that: "Yes yes... this big news was Edgar's departure and now not knowing the fate of the film. Big to ME anyway." Also, BuzzFeed claims that Ant-Man co-writer Joe Cornish has NOT been approached as Wright's replacement,  despite popular belief.

Well this is horrible. Ant-Man is a great character with much potential, but not gonna lie Wright was the only thing that made me want to see this film. Like how bad could the differences be that he drops out now, he's been working on it [although v slowly] for years?!?
TuckstheHalls - 5/23/2014, 1:01 PM

THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 5/23/2014, 1:05 PM
Maybe Marvel Studios were like: [frick] Scott Lang
Jcool - 5/23/2014, 1:05 PM
That is what like 6 years of his life? You would think in that time they would know if they are a good fit or not.
Nick56 - 5/23/2014, 1:06 PM
Hahahahahaha I don't care. Wasn't planning on seeing this movie anyway. Ive always found Ant-Man to be one of the stupidest comic book characters ever
janitra - 5/23/2014, 1:06 PM

Rhinoman - 5/23/2014, 1:07 PM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Last one to leave was Patty Jenkins on Thor TDW, and look how mediocre that one turned out.

So sad over this one
WinterSoldier33 - 5/23/2014, 1:07 PM
They should replace it with

Black panther or nova and have ant man in 2016
Cles - 5/23/2014, 1:07 PM
I'm sensing a tonal shift for Phase 3
MightOfMagneto - 5/23/2014, 1:08 PM
Looks like most of their talents are not happy with Marvel Studios meddling too much with the directions of each movie...

From actors/actresses to directors..

Jon Favreau
Alan Taylor
K Branagh
J johnston

Edward Norton
Mickey ROurke
Hugo Weaving

and many more
remembertheking - 5/23/2014, 1:08 PM
well i hope the guy they hire is good enough to generate enough buzz to shadow the departure of Edgar Wright.
SugarYumYum - 5/23/2014, 1:08 PM
I'm rather annoyed right now if true, isn't waiting for this guy to direct the film the reason we don't have the Pyms already? So the wait was basically for nothing? -__-
Tuuralihn - 5/23/2014, 1:09 PM
Ah crap.
Nick56 - 5/23/2014, 1:09 PM
"due to differences in their vision of the film" I guess unlike all the other directors Disney/Marvel hires they couldn't control him or give him creative control. Maybe they'll hire a no-name tv director who will follow order without question while Emperor Fiege calls all the creative shots
Rhinoman - 5/23/2014, 1:09 PM
Edgar wrote the script and everything, why leave unless something major is going on?
TheIncredibleHulksta - 5/23/2014, 1:09 PM
Not surprising I always thought that wright was too indie
bigdannymac - 5/23/2014, 1:09 PM
It's 100% True
wookiefit76 - 5/23/2014, 1:10 PM
Well! That went south quickly.
