Revealing an interesting, yet conventional, detail about the filming of her scene(s), Da Vinci's Demons actress Laura Haddock talks briefly about playing Star-Lord's mother in Guardians of the Galaxy

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy may be Marvel's biggest and boldest exploration of their cosmic universe, but the upcoming space epic adventure will of course spend a minute or two on earth where we'll first meet Peter Quill, pre-Star-Lord,  as well as his mother Meredith Quill, who is played Laura Haddock. The English actress, who's probably the only actor to play two different roles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently spoke with Assignment X about the filming for her brief, but piviotal scenes. Yes, that was amazing! said Haddock of Guardians of the Galaxy
I got to go up and work on that film with James Gunn, and he’s great to work with. He’s working on this huge sci-fi film and a lot of the time, he’s having to play scenes with actors who are working on a green screen, so they’re creating their own reality, I suppose. It’s pretty hard to do on a green screen, but it was rooted in truth and reality, and James made sure that myself and the other actor never met [prior to shooting], never saw each other. We didn’t get ready together, we got made up in different trucks, and the first time we ever saw each other was on camera, so the reaction was completely honest and real.

Though relatively unknowns were apparently cast as Meredith Quill's own mother, sister, and best friend in Guardians of the Galaxy, the actor that Laura Haddock refers to not meeting prior to filming is most likely Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu. Regarding his blue-skinned character's relationship with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Rooker revealed a while ago via production notes that [HIGHLIGHT SPOILER] “[Yondu] went to pick him up from Earth and for some reason he decided not to take him where he was meant to go and raised him himself. He made a connection with him, and Yondu now enjoys the fact that Quill has the courage to do his own thing.” [END SPOILER]. Unless there are some missing pieces, you could probably put two and two together, and gather what Laura Haddock's screen-time as Meredith Quill will establish. What do you think?

MercwithMouth - 5/27/2014, 6:33 AM
Sounds good. Should be an emotional scene, stuck in the middle of a beautifully goofy movie.
ezio619 - 5/27/2014, 6:35 AM
mercwithamouth-yeah ,i think ti was chris pratt who said that while the movie itself doesnt take itself too seriously overall,it takes its dramatic moments seriously and i like that

Let's not forget that she was also in another Marvel movie

MCU=Everything is connected
ComicsBornAndBred - 5/27/2014, 7:30 AM
@MrNikLander ya but obviously she's playing someone else. Just a reuse of a solid actress
Rulk - 5/27/2014, 7:35 AM

THORION76 - 5/27/2014, 7:41 AM
THAT WOULD AWESOME IF STARLORD WAS THE BASTARD SON OF CAPTAIN AMERICA.

Perfect French Toast
Step 1: Mix 2 eggs with2 teaspoons of cinnamon, 1/2 a cup of milk, and 2 tablespoons of cream.

Step 2: Take out a large pan and turn the stove to medium. Put a small piece of butter in the pan until it is fully melted.

Step 3: Take out 3 pieces of bread (any kind) and but them in the mix.

Step 4: Place the pieces of bread in the pan. Wait until both sides of the bread are golden brown.

Step 5: Grab a plate, knife and fork with a glass of milk, and you are ready to serve.
ComicsBornAndBred - 5/27/2014, 7:44 AM
She's gorgeous. Can't wait for this movie. I guess J'Son sent for Yondu to rescue Peter from the alien assasin.
StarYeezus - 5/27/2014, 7:44 AM
@Pasto

Lol, you should make an article on that...
LensmanMatt92 - 5/27/2014, 7:46 AM
Her death scene(because Pete's mom gets killed by aliens in the comics, and you can't have a hero with living parents) is gonna be awesome!
ItsATrap - 5/27/2014, 7:53 AM
@kinghulk - Should be interesting. Also, was it ever confirmed that Nathan Fillion has a role in this movie? Because if so, I'm pretty sure you just hit the nail on the head
0megaDaGod - 5/27/2014, 7:55 AM
Good lord she's cute
MakluIV - 5/27/2014, 8:01 AM

can't wait to see Guardian!
RexDartEskimoSpy - 5/27/2014, 9:35 AM
Oh yeah, she had a teeny part in Cap 1. This sets an important precedent; showing there's no reason Richard Armitage can't be Doctor Strange.

Stan Lee, on the other hand, is clearly the same character in every MCU movie.
rockerdude22 - 5/27/2014, 9:54 AM
She said she also had scenes with Chris Pratt. I wonder if that means time travel will be involved in this film
FantasticSpidey - 5/27/2014, 10:11 AM
Or that she will be in old person make-up when she is meeting him, and her normal self in a flashback?
Scorpion8125 - 5/27/2014, 11:08 AM
Oh how Peter Quill must have the Oedipus pants for his mommy.

Ooh la la!

ScionStorm - 5/27/2014, 11:41 AM
Peter Quill's grandmother met Captain America?
dethpillow - 5/27/2014, 12:16 PM
"...and the first time we ever saw each other was on camera, so the reaction was completely honest and real."

This struck me at first as making more sense if she was talking about Pratt. it sounds like she's talking about something emotionally striking.
this would make sense if maybe Starlord is obsessed about the time gem in order to go back in time and save his mother, or do something back then.

Cuz if it was referring to Yondu, it would only be her reaction to seeing a blue alien man, right? or is there something I'm missing about what the relationship could be there?

I don't really know how Yondu typically would fit into things with Starlord, or heard much about how it's gonna be in the movie. I just don't know much about Yondu at all. so maybe I am missing something.

but from where I see it, it's more likely Pratt she's talking about. which kinda implies a lot about what happens in the movie.
dethpillow - 5/27/2014, 12:24 PM
@FantasticSpidey - i don't think so, i think they'll keep Quill's mom dying when he's a kid, so if it is Pratt, i think it's way more likely there's time travel going on, and probably the Time Gem. but yeah, it's a good point, maybe there's other stuff involved that would make what you're talking about possible too.
sameoldthing - 5/27/2014, 2:19 PM
She's hot. Any chance of a sex scene where she conceives Peter?
Perhaps the birth scene..spread em!
mgeoff88 - 5/27/2014, 3:11 PM
She is beautiful.
Mercwitham0uth - 5/27/2014, 3:17 PM
