For two years, director James Gunn has dedicated his life to bringing Guardians of the Galaxy to the big-screen, and as the Marvel Studios adaptation nears its August release date, so ends work on the space epic flick. In light of that, the director has taken to Facebook to vent about being in the final days of post-production, how he'll miss developing Rocket Raccoon, and why he is probably in need of a break. "I swear, I've gotten angry with filmmakers like Ridley Scott and George Lucas who can't let go of their old films and want to keep going back and offering up different versions, but I can easily see myself doing that now," fessed James Gunn on the social networking service.

"This is essentially my last week of actually making Guardians of the Galaxy," he continued. "It's been two years straight and I've starting to become terrified of actually having to STOP. But on July 7 I leave for Singapore to begin the press tour so I suppose I really have no choice. There isn't much left. I'm still playing with the sound mix and the 3D and the DI (digital intermediate - basically the color-timing) - and there are some outstanding visual effects shots. But I still want to do what I can with what I have left to make the most stunning film I can for you guys on August 1! I think the Marvel producers are starting to understand my almost psychotic inability to be happy with anything, and to pick apart things to the very bitter end. They're going to have to tear this movie from my bloody grip. Aagh. I'm starting to get very sad every time I think of how I'm going to miss all of the people I've been working with side-by-side for the past two years. And - to show you how strange I really am - I get teary-eyed when I think of how I won't be working with Rocket (at least for a little while). He's been the center of my life for a long time now, and I've come to love the little son-of-a-bitch. Really."

James Gunn then wrapped up his thoughts with: "Let's be honest. I'm getting teary-eyed now writing those words. And yes that may be a sign that I really am in need of a break.
But for now, it's back to work. Love to you all. Have a fantastic weekend." What do you think?

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014.

He is such a great guy, it would be a shame if Marvel doesn't hire him back for another movie.

gunn is known to be passionate about just about any project he does but this one is even more and it seems genuine to me,its not usual studio BS, he seems he wants to make this a good film and i hope its good

Man, you can instantly tell that this guy is speaking from his heart, it's so touching. There's no goubt that we'll get a great film and I hope it does well enough to make Marvel hire Gunn for another one.

Dear Marvel,
Please hire someone this passionate about the Thor characters and stories for Thor 3.
No offense to Alan Taylor, he did good with what he had, but he was recruited by Marvel solely for his work on Game of Thrones, and later Taylor himself said he was surprised he was chosen as he didn't know anything about Thor or comicbook stuff in general before being recruited.
I haven't seen Guardians yet obviously, but I am super stoked about it and it was put in the right hands with Gunn in the first place.
JohnCarter - 6/28/2014, 1:32 PM
I've been anticipating this movie more than The Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Winter Soldier.
marvel72 - 6/28/2014, 1:34 PM

Amazing512 - 6/28/2014, 1:44 PM
The passion this guy has for this film is through the roof. I can't wait to be there for the first midnight showing.

Thanos is here!
dio - 6/28/2014, 1:49 PM
@MsDarkPhoenix..yeah I was bugging out when my Thea was over there ...It's a shame what's going on there. I haven't been back in about 7 years.
AlexanderLykins - 6/28/2014, 1:49 PM
Time to go buy Silver Surfer and Galactus back from the trolls at Fox.
MsDarkPhoenix - 6/28/2014, 1:55 PM
@dio It's just really sad to know that so many people voted Golden Dawn in the last elections... I guess it just proves how bad the education is because people don't learn anything from history...
EzioKenway1225 - 6/28/2014, 1:56 PM
Alex-my dream scenario-Groot with Hulk, Drax with Thor, Rocket with Hawkeye and Tony, Gamora and Black Widow, Cap and Star Lord, they are fighting off thanos and his invasion, at one point cap and star lord lose their weapons and Cap grabs star lords blasters and star lord grabs caps shield
AlexanderLykins - 6/28/2014, 2:04 PM
@EzioKenway1225
It's going to be magical. It's hard for me not to get romantic about the MCU. People have invested so much into it. The Red Carpet for Avengers 3 is going to make me cry. When they bring out everyone for Comic Con I'm going to cry. I hope at some point they do a huge MCU photo with all of the stars from each movie.
AlexanderLykins - 6/28/2014, 2:05 PM
The poster for Avengers 3 should be the the same as the cover of Infinity Gauntlet.
