Joss Whedon On AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, Marvel Vs DC, And GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2

Reassuring that Marvel and DC both have movies that he's not a fan of, Joss Whedon discusses the Guardians sequel, and if Cap's Winter Soldier mission will be addressed in Age of Ultron. Check it out

Last month, the day after Marvel Studios revealed the first footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron among other things at San Diego Comic-Con, the annual Nerd HQ held its "Conversation with Joss Whedon" via FaceTime as the the writer-director was still recovering from knee surgery in London. The first of his few Marvel-related questions had inquired about how The Avengers sequel will address the Captain America: The Winter Soldier cliffhanger that left Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) on a mission to find Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). "Ultron is the clear present danger, and Bucky is in the wind," said Whedon. "We do mention the fact that [Bucky] is his sort of primary thing, but he's also working with the Avengers too. So, we're not ignoring it, but he definitely has to deal with a mad 8-foot robot. Because that's one of those things where, [if] you put it off, it just gets worse." Speaking of Cap's primary mission, Captain America 3 is set a couple years after The Winter Soldier, and is also set to release the same day as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Which indirectly brings us to the next Marvel-related question for Joss Whedon: What would he say to Warner Bros./DC to step up their game?
"I don't think I would say that," he said moderately. "I think that would be a little presumptuous of me. I think that both studios have kind of different agendas, different ways of approaching the superhero genre, and the ethos of the thing, and the esthetic. They go very dark and serious and sometimes it works amazingly, and Marvel tends to be a little lighter. Both have movies that I adore, and both have movies that I'm like... (Whedon gives an aggravated facial expression), including bits of my own. I would not want them to do what Marvel does. I like what they do when they get it right. When you get a Heath Ledger [performance], and Batman Begins, and those things that really grip you. That's something nobody else is doing, and I like it. I want them to do what they're doing."

The last Marvel question Joss Whedon was asked was about Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which Marvel Studios had just announced the day before the Nerd HQ panel, and how James Gunn's 2017 sequel will affect what he has going for The Avengers. "I was not aware of what they were going to announce," he admits, "because I sort of stay away from everything else as much as I can while I'm trying desperately to finish [Age of Ultron]. We're two weeks away from finishing and I'm two days away from actually finishing the script as well. So, it's a lot going on with me right now. Kevin [Feige] has a big plan and every now and then, he'll tell me part of it if he thinks it's going to affect what I'm doing or if he thinks what I'm doing is going to affect his. But as much as possible, I try to live in my own bubble. Guardians [of the Galaxy] is very much its own thing. They're not the Guardians of this galaxy; it's a different one. So, I can sort of keep them at arm's length, long enough to do my thing and then I'm sure everything is gonna get mixed together because it's Marvel." Mixed together? Can we add this to the piling evidence that the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy will eventually link up? Sure! What do you think?

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.

GOTG was beyond epic. I hope GOTG 2 will be just as good if not BETTER.

Good stuff. I would hit this up with yoga pants, but still no DD costume. So...I shall reward this with Snoop Dogg wearing a sweater.

@Yoss
MarvelFan15 - 8/5/2014, 1:42 PM
I hope it does lead to our Avengers/Guardians crossover for Avengers 3.
PymParticle - 8/5/2014, 1:45 PM
Bucky confirmed by Whedon.

Wardell scooped it.

The instagram of the stuntguy also confirmed it after the scoop.
jCamer0n - 8/5/2014, 1:45 PM

GOTG is mediocre but it is still miles better than the Avengers.

Let James Gunn handle the avengers, atleast he can pull it out from being poor to mediocre.
SmellofDuty - 8/5/2014, 1:46 PM
@MarvelFan15 I agree, very needed.

I love this man's wit.

Guardians Was [Frick]ing Amazing
DeusExSponge - 8/5/2014, 1:49 PM
Whedon gets it, we don't need WB/DC to copy Marvel and vice versa. Let each studio concentrate on what they want to do and get a unique experience from each of them.
blackandyellow - 8/5/2014, 1:49 PM
They're done filming in 2 weeks? That was fast.
Pasto - 8/5/2014, 1:49 PM
I just gotta ask Whedon one question:
Can you come and get your love?
yossarian - 8/5/2014, 1:49 PM
Thank you Pasto.
BatManiac - 8/5/2014, 1:49 PM
Guardians of the Galaxy was PHENOMENAL!
I can't wait for Guardians of the Galaxy 2!
JoJo1982 - 8/5/2014, 1:50 PM
Soo Bucky is in Avengers Age of Ultron!!!
Marvel1997 - 8/5/2014, 1:50 PM
Don't get too happy tho DC fanboy/trolls, he said when they ""Get it right"" so clearly the dark/gritty time does not apply to all/certain *cough* characters ;)
SmellofDuty - 8/5/2014, 1:50 PM
@PymParticle what did he confirm? That Cap is looking for him? Didn't we all know that?
kinghulk - 8/5/2014, 1:50 PM
well said whedon, although im pretty sure the guardians of the galaxy takes place in this galaxy unless im mistaken.
Pasto - 8/5/2014, 1:51 PM
You welcome Yoss, you welcome.
JorL5150 - 8/5/2014, 1:51 PM
You will call him "SIR" -

"Sir mister whedon Christ "

If you know what's good for ya!
EzioKenway1225 - 8/5/2014, 1:51 PM
i was worried that for some reason, we would just pick up and we wonder why Cap isnt going after bucky..i am glad there will atleats be a mention of that in the film
SmellofDuty - 8/5/2014, 1:51 PM
Does "in the wind" mean coming up in Cap 3, or also in the movie?
SkrullKillKrew - 8/5/2014, 1:52 PM
jCameron has a mangina
Marvel1997 - 8/5/2014, 1:52 PM
***""Sometimes it works""****^^^^. I also agree that each studio should stick to their own style
DylansMyDog - 8/5/2014, 1:52 PM
Both Whedon and Fiege are both really cool when it comes to talking about their competition.
Klone - 8/5/2014, 1:53 PM
8 foot robots intent on human genocide can be real tedious pains to be fair.
Pasto - 8/5/2014, 1:53 PM
Those 8 foot robots can be a bitch.
Klone - 8/5/2014, 1:53 PM
Ninja Robot Jesus Whedon Space Pirate.
EzioKenway1225 - 8/5/2014, 1:54 PM
he didnt confirm Bucky is in Age of Ultron.. he said there will be a mention of him...

DeusExSponge- Marvel is the more lighter universe with dark moments and periods and DC is the darker universe with light moments or periods..that is the way i have always seen them ..i think DC should do its own thing and Marvel does its own.. creates variety which is good
TheDarkKryptonian - 8/5/2014, 1:54 PM
See, Whedon is such a cool guy. He could totally have mentioned that the MCU is far ahead of the DCCU, but no. He takes the time to mention what both do right and wrong.

God I love this man.
Klone - 8/5/2014, 1:54 PM
@Pasto

Exactly. I had a run in with one of those genocide maniacs the other day. Those 8ft bastards have a real attitude problem.
NovaCorpsFan - 8/5/2014, 1:54 PM
jCamer0n obviously never got the message when his ass got banned a while back.
McGee - 8/5/2014, 1:54 PM
The great thing about Whedon...he won't f*ck your wife, forcing you to fire him and have fans bitch.
EzioKenway1225 - 8/5/2014, 1:55 PM
DylansMyDog-yep i rember when IM3 was coming out.. Feige said he was excited for MOS.. he said it looked awesome
FordEl - 8/5/2014, 1:55 PM
My thoughts exactly. Let Marvel make their action comedies and DC can make their more action drama movies with humor sprinkled here and there.
Marvel1997 - 8/5/2014, 1:55 PM
@SkrullKillKrew- That is a possibility cause he seems to like to come to every article on a movie he claims he/she does not like (GOTG) and spew his/her shit then leave
MrNiklander - 8/5/2014, 1:55 PM
I liked that Joss Whedon actually just said in his own way ''If it works that way it [frick]ing works''
