Revealing that he's worked with a famous motion capture performance guru to help "perfect" Ben Grimm's transformation into the Thing, Jamie Bell also talks up his Fantastic Four co-stars and more.

Jamie Bell recently took part in an interview with AOL Build when he discussed playing Ben Grimm, aka the Thing, in The Fantastic Four. "I'm hugely excited, it's a huge responsibility"  he started. "It's a very kind of a beloved property. It's in the comic book universe, it's right up there with all the rest of them. So, there is a lot of hoop-jumping, and trust. I think people were kind of confused when I was cast, but this is an origin story of these characters. I haven't seen the film yet, but I'm very excited to see it. What I can tell you is, just from making the film and the journey that we've been on with it, is that the film is very much an experience; it really is. It's really fun to be a part of. Simon Kinberg is a great comic book writer; comic book just runs through his veins. And Josh Trank is an original unique filmmaker. I'm very flattered and humbled to be a part of it."

Jamie Bell was then asked how he got into character as the Thing, and he revealed that he got help from his King Kong co-star Andy Serkis, who also worked on the Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"We used performance capture to get the essence of it," he said. "Obviously I'm not made of rocks and obviously I'm not 6 foot 8! It's about capturing the essence of a human being inside of that character when he is transformed and you do that through motion capture. It's a technique that my friend Andy Serkis has very much spearheaded -- he is the guru of performance capture. I've been lucky to work with him 3 or 4 times actually, so I very much consider him my mentor."

Fantastic Four, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. Directed by Josh Trank, Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell with Reg E. Cathey, and the film is scheduled for release on August 7, 2015.

Marvel should giv the Thing more abklities like earth bending powers. He is the only one who doesnth have mental control of his abilities outside of this strength.

I don’t think the Thing needs anymore abilities that the durability and strength he has. Back in the mid 80s there was a book where the Champion came to earth and challenged earths heroes to a boxing like competition where if anyone could defeat him he would not destroy the planet. Everyone fell including Colossus, Sasquatch, Namor, and even the Hulk but the Thing wouldn’t stay down knowing what was on the line. He was beaten into a pulp and wouldn’t stop fighting for everyone. The Champion eventually respected Grim and conceded. The point being that its not how impressive his powers are its his character and heart that make the ever-loving blue eyed Thing what he is a true hero.

This is one of the best young ensemble cast ever. If you guys think that Jaime Bell can't handle this role, you are mistaken. Watch TURN: Washington's Spies and you'll see how an amazing actor he is. I also loved him in Jumper!

I'll definitely be watching this.

I just hope we eventually get to see the FF4 in the MCU.

Andy Serkis is awesome in motion capture. If he wasn't already playing as Klaw in Age of Ultron, I'd want him to play as Ezekial; he'd kill the role.

Hopefully once this train wreck comes to an end Jamie Bell will be able to at the very least walk away with some dignity left considering he'll be mostly CGI unlike the rest of this horrid cast.

@Mike1100 How do you know this will be a train wreck? Did you watch the film already? Are you the film's editor?

The Thing should smile a bit, you know ? It's not the end of the world if your friend ask you to go with him to another dimension and suddenly you are tranformed into a big pile of stones ...

@YoungThanos
So because of a good tv show, you can't take a live action movie by another studio seriously?

Bell was awesome in Snowpiercer as well. The cast is most certainly not a weakness in this movie, that's for sure.

Well their design for the Thing is great, so I just hope Jamie Bell manages to get the accent and feel of the character right.

The way I see it, this movie's kind of a win-win either way. If it's good, then we get a good F4 movie. If it sucks, Fox will probably let the rights revert to Marvel and just focus on what they're doing with the X-Men and expanding that with various spin-offs.

As a big Thing fan, he looks perfect.

Now just give him some cigars and a blind girlfriend and you're good.

Speaking of King Kong I thought this the other day.

What ever happened to Jack Black? I mean I like him. He's a good actor in serious roles like King Kong and a good comedic actor as seen in Tropic Thunder. I mean besides the Ku Fung Panda films, what has he been doing? I feel like we need more Jack Black in movies. Not saying put him in a comic book movie but more so just, be in a movie man. You're not Eddie Murphy bad right now.
