Romanian Actor, Sebastian Stan Now Up For Captain America Too?

Entertainment Weekly threw out a name, that has never been mentioned by anyone else. Romanian-born actor, Sebastian Stan.


In a recent Captain America update from Entertainment Weekly, they had a name that has never been mentioned before. Sebastian Stan.

Cloverfield’s Mike Vogel, Gossip Girl’s Sebastian Stan; and the unknown, Young and the Restless’s Wilson Bethel. The studio held lengthy screen tests last weekend for at least four of those actors (Hedlund has not yet screen-tested, though sources believe he is the studio’s first choice), and Marvel is expected to have a decision soon.

Sebastian is best-known for playing Prince Jack Benjamin on the television drama Kings and Carter Baizen on Gossip Girl. I'm pretty sure if he is indeed on the list, it's for another character.

Gotta be reading for another part, Marvel confirmed they are only looking for American actors to play Cap.

He is a fantastic actor to be completely honest, but he is not Steve Rogers. Whatever other role he gets, I'm sure he'll do great, but not for Steve.

P.S. Kings was a brilliant show. It should have never been canceled.

Hmmm, either Namor or Bucky. Wrong for both roles but those are the only ones I see as a possibility.

I can see them changing a character's ethnicity only to say they have an international cast. Hugo Weaving is British-Australian, and it was said they want a British actress for the female lead.

@ecks: Negative. Universal owns the film rights to the Sub Mariner. They had planned a big budget trilogy that never went through. Last I heard, they were open to working with Marvel Studios to give Namor a solo flick. There's no better way to gauge audience appeal than to let the character cameo in another flick.

@MF: They're not going to cast a non-American for Cap. It's one of the few official statements that has been released.

BTW, ethnicity and nationality are two different things

@SoulEater: Ummm, this isn't bull. It's unofficial. None of the casting options have been confirmed by the studio yet. Why get all bent up over a rumor?

@Betty: A standard prerequisite

@MF: Why would they have to change a character's nationality because of the actor's nationality? Red Skull is German, Peggy Carter is American.

@Multi If he's Namor, I'm blowing up the set. Namor isn't always drawn well, but I've got a Michael Turner poster of him hanging on my wall that deems him sexy. You guys can have your fantasy female characters with their big boobs or whatever, but we women need our impeccable abs and the arrogant sexy authority. He's no Namor and neither is Vin Diesel or David Boreanaz.

@Ecksmanfan His girlfriend, Leighton Meester, is actually a natural blonde. She dyes it brown for Gossip Girls. She's look better for the role than him.

I'm certain that Sebastian isn't being considered for Cap. Maybe someone else.

Well, my hair was already light to medium brown to begin with, and complexion is light enough that blonde looks natural on me.

Judging on how skinny he is and naturally "sickly" he appears in pictures posted. I wouldn't doubt that if he is cast as Steve Rodgers, it wouldn't be what we think.

What I mean is, he'd probably be used as the body stand-in for Steve Rodger's pre-serum. Then they CG paste the head of the actor who is chosen for the full feature in place of his. Much like they do with actor's having their heads put on babies for laughs with some comedies. It's far-fetched, I know, but it's plausible none-the-less. It's a less complicated route to go then making a buff guy look convincingly thin and sickly. So, when these thin little actors mention reading for Cap, they could be, just not the Cap we assume.

Just throwing that possibility out there.

Namor is under the rights of FOX last I heard. They wanted David Borranas (can't spell his last name) The dude that played Angel and is now on bones for the role.
that was back in 06-07 and I have heard anything since.

This dude was gay in Kings. I adored that show and he was a great actor, but it will mentally throw me off if I watch a movie and stare at an actor who is supposed to be this character that should be attractive and I can remember the scene with his kissing a dude. It doesn't even matter that Sebastian Stan is dating Leighton Meester and I know he's not really gay in real life. It diminishes sex appeal, at least for me. Not to mention he's not very sexy anyway.

No to Cap. No to Namor.

The rumors are tiring, but could we please quit talking about names like Worthington, Damon, Valley, DiCaprio and all the others that we already know aren't going to even test for the part because they don't fit due to age or not being American? We already know some parameters that have been stated. Just stop bringing up names that are completely out of the running.

Bring on that buff unknown! Though people will complain about an unknown and whether they can act, I trust that more than these wimpy-looking, mediocre actor choices being thrown at us. I still have faith they have an ace up their sleeve. Surprise us all.

I bet we won't hear anything until they begin to shoot in June. I think Marvel couldn't get teh person they wanted to play Cap...so there trying out a bunch of people now. It's clear to me they wanted Ackels but cause of his TV show it won't work out...That's why there dragging this out. They hope Ackels can get some free time to do the movie.
