With Captain America, Thor, and The Avengers highly anticipated movies moving forward, Marvel is still actively developing a live action adaption of the "The Runaways", with Peter Sollett to helm the film.

Moving forward, Production Weekly has revealed via Twitter, a date range for Marvel to begin filming.

Before word got out that Joss Whedon would be directing the upcoming Avengers movie, he was said to be directing Runaways. Regarding casting, CBM's JoshW pointed out that Allie Grant, who is best known for her role in the TV series Weeds, is offhandedly listed "seen opposite Michael Shannon in the upcoming Marvel Studios film Runaways" in her biography.

Based on the cult favorite comic book about the children of super villains who try to use their evil powers for heroic purposes, the story follows a group of teenagers who discover that their parents, an amalgam of mob bosses, time-travelers, dark wizards, mad scientists, alien invaders and telepathic mutants, are part of an evil crime syndicate. The series is known for it's solid characterization and its ability to tackle dark elements while maintaining a comedic tone. The stories take places in mainstream Marvel continuity and several major Marvel characters have made appearances alongside the teens.

The film will be distributed under Marvel's pre-Disney deal with Paramount Pictures. And regarding whether or not the Runaways will be apart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe set up with Iron Man, the studios' President stated that without as many references as the big-budget films, it could happen. Announced back in May, British writer, Drew Pearce would be penning a draft for the film.

Great find again DCMF but I cant think of a Marvel Studios movie I want less than this one!!! I'd rather they get on with Doctor Strange or Black Panther! If they want to do a film featuring younger heroes, then the Young Avengers would be much better IMO!

Bloody Marvel - ous!!!!! I think I would have prefered a TV series but a movie is great.

They couldn't have chosen a better storyline to bring to life.
InSpace - 7/13/2010, 2:36 PM
JoshW@ Yeah but that would be even harder to adapt

At least the movie has a good basis, everything before the Pride's destruction. The more mainstream stuff like after Alex is unnecessary. But it would be funny to see Wolverine flying after getting hit by Molly.

@ JoshW: One of my best friends has heard news about Young Avengers in talks and want to try out for the role of Patriot. He does stunts for t.v shows and SciFi movie here and there so he gets to a little bit of whats going on in hollywood. He said according to an agent they are seeing how Avengers, The Runaways, and X-Men: first class fair to audiences before they introduce a Young Avengers.

I think it makes sense to make the Runaways now, before all the other heroes. In the comics, they had to go it alone, because they lived in California and the other heroes lived in New York. It's more plausible this way because they're on their own because not alot of the other heroes exist yet.

cool find man love this series

How is it tween pandering to make a film out of a very popular property?Runaways has plenty of adult fans. This is for them, as well as younger audiences who have never heard of them.

This should be awesome if done right.

I think this will be a good franchise, as they can stand on their own, yet they also have ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Victor, who comes later, has ties to Hank Pym.

Nico is a mystic, so she could be tied to Doctor Strange.

Chase's parents are inventors, and technology seems to be the focus of the Cinematic Universe.

There's also a Skrull in there.

One is a mutant, though I don't know how they'll handle that.

One of the best things about Runaways is that it's group of characters are assiciated with various aspects of the Marvel U.

WTF? The who? Never heard of em.

Love the graphic novels, this could be good.
CaptainAmerica - 7/13/2010, 4:59 PM

ThaMessenger07: Really? Thanks for the info! I know it would be hard to adapt (and they'd need to make a fair few changes in order to make their origins a little less complicated) but I'd love to see the characters make their way to the big screen...or even better, the small one! A TV series would be awesome IMO. :)

I came to this series a little late, only after reading rave reviews of it. It is pretty good.

I think this is a smart move by Marvel. It's ideally placed to capture the gap left by the Harry Potter series, as well as picking up some of the tweenies who normally go for that Twilight rubbish.

The kids here are far spunkier, smarter and street than the mopey, emo Twilight crowd, so if they adapt it well, it could appeal to an even wider audience - something both tweens and grownups can enjoy. Hopefully.

f**king AWESOME!

This is great news.
But watch this will get shuffled into the background while folks continue to whine about Norton's rejection.
AsianAvenger - 7/13/2010, 7:20 PM
Yeah, can't wait to see it!!!!

Runaways are awesome! the Young Avengers/Runaways Civil War tie-in issues were the best tie-ins for that story. it was just awesome.

HULK2099 - 7/13/2010, 8:31 PM
The Comics are really good, hope this kicks ass!
tazmaniak - 7/13/2010, 11:01 PM
That thing about Allie Grant and Michael Shannon being in this movie is a mistake. They were both in the Dakota Fanning movie The Runaways.Alot of people got that mixed up a few months ago.
breakUbatman - 7/14/2010, 12:28 AM
Meh would have preffered Strange or Iron Fist to come out first, I wonder where it's going to fall in continuity wise
ShadowMan - 7/14/2010, 1:54 AM
I've only read civil war runaways and secret invasion but I hope this movie is a part of the Marvel movie universe.
CherryBomb - 7/14/2010, 8:08 AM
Yay! I'm sooo excited. Finally, a marvel movie that can appeal to a younger and wider audience. [:

Can't wait to see the casting announcements

I have conflicting feelings about Runaways, but a ten year old who can trounce a dinosaur is never bad.

Also, it is my personal opinion that Joss Whedon's run was a piece of shit. I mean JESUS!!! Keep that guy away from this.

If Marvel wants to adapt one of its lesser known properties, I'd rather if it was Criminal, Luke Cage, Alias or NEXTWAVE.

d3vine - 7/14/2010, 3:14 PM
I really loved Runaways. Probably one of my favorite Marvel comics of the past few years so I'm double stoked for this movie.

I swear I will riot though if they give it the X-Men First Class treatment.
Acerimmer1 - 7/14/2010, 6:16 PM
I say again... Who?
