Marc Guggenheim, the co-writer of Martin Campbell's upcoming Green Lantern adaption, speaks heavily with Vaneta Rogers of Newsarama on the film, which hits theaters June 17, 2011, and drops a few tidbits on the sequel & The Flash movie adaption.

Guggenheim says straight forward, "We've turned in the treatment for Flash, And we're talking about Green Lantern 2." "It would be a quality problem to have, to think about a third. But one step at a time,"

"I went down to New Orleans two months ago to see some of the Green Lantern filming, and I got to see a whole bunch of things in connection with the movie,"
Guggenheim said. "In all honesty, I was completely blown away. I don't think it dawned on me how huge this movie would be until I went down to New Orleans and really saw everything that I saw. It was incredibly eye-opening. I was really rendered speechless. There's just no way for me to put it to words, just how huge this movie is going to be."

"I think where that came out of was, when Greg Berlanti originally pitched the movie to Warner Bros., he pitched three movies. So there's always been, and he's said this publicly, that there's always been enough story for a trilogy. The scope of the character and the character's world requires that. But we're really just focusing on the treatment for Green Lantern 2."And I know that everyone involved in the production of the movie is just focusing on completing the first film,"
he added.

"I think it's very hard to talk about these characters in a closed-ended, sort of non-sequel way, especially characters like The Flash and Green Lantern, which have such rich, long histories. You can't help but talk about the characters and go, 'Oh, I really want to do the movie where we get to this moment, or that moment.' So you're always talking in terms of sequels, but no, nothing's planned. We haven't even written the script yet for The Flash. It's very much one step at a time for The Flash.

Guggenheim continues on the excitement of the Green Lantern sequel saying, "But it's terrific that people are talking along these lines. I think that talk really comes out of the great amount of faith and the movie and the optimistic feeling about it. So I think that's only a good thing.

On whether or not he'll cameo in Martin Campbell's adaption, "I actually can't confirm that. I wish I could. The truth is, those sort of decisions get made high above my pay grade."

But that doesn't mean he's against the idea, having even stated in the past that he'd love to see a Superman cameo in a Green Lantern movie. "I have all sorts of my own ideas and things I would like to see or like to do. And I'm certainly a voice in favor of cameos and Easter eggs and trying to tie the movies together," he said. "But you really have to talk to DC about that."

would love to see a flash cameo in GL. I need to see a good solo movie, the lack of one is upsetting me. Flash is my favorite DC character so I hope for more updates over the next few months. And of Course another awesome find Freshman

Mark-Paul Gosselaar can make an awesome role playing "The Fastest Man Alive" I do picture him that if he makes that decision from Greg Berlanti

Great work DCMF! :) I'd love to one day see Green Lantern and Flash side-by-side on the big screen and judging by this interview, it's getting closer and closer to becoming a reality!
InTylerWeTrust - 9/7/2010, 4:51 PM
Finally, some decent movement for Flash, however long overdue it may be. Hopefully it continues.
UnfriendlySpidey - 9/7/2010, 4:52 PM
Nice find @DCMF! A Flash cross-over in GL would be EPIC! as well as a stand-alone Flash flick would be awesome haha

@Tabs thanks for the info!! I'll definitely have to check that out! :D

THE FLASH!!!!! I really hope GL does tremendously well so The Flash can run to the big screen. GL and Barry Allen are my favs from DC.
KIDDSOUL - 9/7/2010, 5:36 PM
You know the DC universe characters were never meant to be grounded in reality. They are more fantastical and powerful than most of the Marvel characters. However, with the exception of batman. For example, how will DC fit batman into the movie universe when justice league comes around?

groundrunner15 - 9/7/2010, 5:42 PM
Well I thought the treatment was already in, but I'll take any progression on this movie I can get!
elcaballerooscuro92 - 9/7/2010, 5:55 PM
i just want a flash movie for 2012
SephirothUK - 9/7/2010, 6:01 PM
I think it would be a really smart move to include a cameo of Superman (with a different suit from SR - not different colours but maybe not all the little S's/with a redesigned big S) to begin to tie into the Superman Reboot. Not only would this tell audiences to prepare for something different but it would also show that the reboot of Supes would be a part of the GL + Flash universe, building up to a Justice League movie eventually and/or those characters to appear in each others movies (how cool would that be!).

The only problem would be sorting Batman out as the Nolanverse simply doesn't have any room for anyone as fantastical as GL or Flash and especially Supes. But by the time the Superman Reboot/The Flash/GL2 have appeared, a solution to Batman may have come about.

Whatcha guys think?
SephirothUK - 9/7/2010, 6:02 PM
It would also confirm who they are going to pick to play Supes again - stop this Routh/Welling debarkle once and for all! (Routh all the way IMO)
Superman8 - 9/7/2010, 6:11 PM
Who do you guys think should play the Flash?
akthunder - 9/7/2010, 6:15 PM
I wish that they would do some cross overs. That is my problem with DC movies, they havent done any crossovers yet. Though I know Marvel just started a few years back, it is the best way to do these things. Everyone would love to see Superman or Flash appear in Green Lantern. Luckily Green Lantern is being made. Now lets make my fav, Green Arrow!
Phinehas - 9/7/2010, 6:35 PM
What does "a treatment" mean actually?
InTylerWeTrust - 9/7/2010, 6:40 PM
Superman8: Patrick Wilson. He would be pretty much perfect for this role IMO. He's about as likable as they come, can be heroic, smart, funny, and serious, and he looks the part.
flames809 - 9/7/2010, 6:40 PM
cool

NO SH!T SHERLOCK!!! Green Lantern should be done like James Bond! I can't wait for this film, but WB needs to stop looking at this as a "Comicbook Movie"!
dellamorte1872 - 9/7/2010, 6:51 PM
i think the dudes a GOOD writer i enjoyed his S/B arc, i say let him "shape" a universe like GOYER with BATMAN. if he proves up to the task after the first G.L is actually done
dellamorte1872 - 9/7/2010, 6:54 PM
im afraid we'll get a "MICHAEL BAY TRANSFORMERS-ESQUE ADAPTION" AS OPPOSED TO A TRUE G.L FILM LET ALONE A FILM TO EQUAL IT
dellamorte1872 - 9/7/2010, 6:55 PM
STUDIOS ACTED LIKE THEY KNEW THE TRANSFORMERS LOL OR GHOST RIDER OR DD
TheDarqueOne - 9/7/2010, 7:21 PM
@Phinehas

A treatment comes before the actual script. It is a mix between outline and fleshed out script. You cover most of the important stuff and key scenes might be done fairly completely.
Luigi - 9/7/2010, 7:30 PM
If we're getting the same writers we should be getting a DC shared universe. Yay! I wonder which Flash we're getting if they haven't confirmed already.
jjmeylar - 9/7/2010, 7:40 PM
He's a freakin lawyer. He needs to stick with that job. I know that it's not his fault that "Young X-Men" sucked. He and the editors had some issues. Even so. He needs to stay in law firms, not comic books and movies.
LP4 - 9/7/2010, 7:54 PM
I hope Flash does well, but I want more updates on the Superman reboot dammit. Nolan hasn't updated us for weeks now almost a whole freaken month!
Timerider84 - 9/7/2010, 8:47 PM
Why not have Brandon Routh show up, the way SLJ showed up in Iron Man. Another thing you could, without ruining continuity is either use the shadow of the Flash on a wall at the end of Green Lantern or shoot the Flash from behind facing Green Lantern, problem solved. All they have to do is do it like Iron Man did it, in that it wasn't part of the actual movie, but was.
WorldsGreatestdetective - 9/7/2010, 10:02 PM
Come on Flash speed up, we need DC to catch up with Marvel.
Angelus - 9/8/2010, 4:57 AM
Awesome! The Flash is coming people!!! And I'd just love a Iris West cameo or something like that in the GL. To hear her talking on the phone with our favorite scarlet speedster or something like that!
I cant stress this enough; I CANT WAIT FOR THIS MOOOOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BMP!
blueorangeny - 9/8/2010, 7:59 AM
@ timerider84 - If Lee777 hears you, you'll become his new best friend, lol. Routh wouldn't show because he does not have a job, he isn't Superman. Sorry to break it to you.

Any how, good article, can't wait.
AlReg - 9/8/2010, 12:41 PM
Right now they just need to make some good decent movies that won't bomb. They don't need to crossover right now.

I also think it's interesting that people only want to see DC movies crossover because Marvel has their films connected it does not mean DC will, needs, or has to do the same thing there is no guarantee The Avengers will work either or if the same method would work for DC movies.

They just need a good Green Lantern movie and a good Flash movie. I think they are putting it all on the line for this movie more then anything else and if it fails then no more non Batman and Superman movies.
Phinehas - 9/10/2010, 4:05 PM
Taboo and Anil
I hate Manapul's drawing! Yes its my icon, but that because that is the current rendering of Flash! To me, it looks like modern-day horrible Satuday morning cartoon style. Van Sciver was better, imo. Miles better.
One2three - 9/17/2010, 4:32 PM
Ryan Phillippe was in contention for Captain America. But I could definately see him as Barry Allen.
