Not disastrous as in the production is going wrong, as you tried to lead us to believe...
vermillion - 1/28/2011, 10:03 PM
I just can't seem to get excited for this film one single bit. Green Lantern, Thor, and Captain America are going to be the ones I can't wait to see. 2012 has new Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman. That's the year I'm looking most forward to. Three of the biggest CB characters coming out in the same year, that's just awesome.
MightyDiamond - 1/28/2011, 10:05 PM
This film will be good. Everything rocks... Well apart from one, minor, insufficienct ellement... but hey ho, who wants to see Wolverine in a X-Men movie...
Deschain - 1/28/2011, 10:07 PM
Whats this about again?
continuezero - 1/28/2011, 10:12 PM
Why does this movie just seem like such a mess? I hope it fails so Marvel can bring it back to justice...Imagine Marvel had them back and could cross over the Avengers and X men...they could do an epic Civil War..
crashrendar - 1/28/2011, 10:14 PM
pretty sure oliver platt is playing a cia/fbi agent.
Jip - 1/28/2011, 10:16 PM
They're trying their very best to make me hate the X-men. But I cant....give....in....
mattattack - 1/28/2011, 10:41 PM
this movie will be awesome people, shut the [frick] up and wait for a trailer at least...
Dickel - 1/29/2011, 12:14 AM
'Man in Black'. So no one knows who he actually is yet?...hmm how intriguing :)
This movie will be good. Just to clarify as well, people often complain about it not been the original 5, but lets keep in mind in the very first comic ever of x-men the 'original five' take on magneto who is about to blow up a military base....so who is to say this movie doesnt take place before that issue? It's believeable.
In x-men movies 1 and 2, there are hints that magneto and mystique knew the x-mansion well, magneto even 'helped build cerebro'. So in line with those movies, its plausible that magneto and mystique were once 'x-men'.
It's really too soon to say it will suck.
Prepare to be surprised is all im saying.
Havok89 - 1/29/2011, 12:17 AM
[frick] this film!
CaptainAmerica - 1/29/2011, 12:37 AM
Same [frick]ing story every day, little bitches crying before even seeing a [frick]ing trailer. How can you even say it sucks without watching it???? God damn peoples.
Havok89 - 1/29/2011, 1:27 AM
So X-Men will be walking around in tuxedos and boring civilian clothes throughout the whole film.

Is this a new X-Men film or an episode of Heroes?
JoshJones - 1/29/2011, 1:30 AM
Rofl @ the reactions to this. I love you all, and I love all whiskey.
SciFiNut - 1/29/2011, 1:33 AM
Is it really necessary to try and make people lose faith in this movie with misleading headlines? Gotta love how trendy it is to hate on a movie before it even hits theatres.
BaneNascent - 1/29/2011, 1:40 AM
I've seen better set images in an episode of the Power Rangers.
comicbookjerk - 1/29/2011, 1:45 AM
@ BaneNasent

Exactly!

FOX PRESENTS....................
gambgel - 1/29/2011, 2:26 AM
Again, a new stupid headlines by Comicbookmovies...

This kind of things make me dislike this site more each day.

Please, be a bit more serious, reporters.

Capt.prog@ Hey, don't put it all on Vaughn. According to the word on the street, he has had nothing to do with this movie.
glenngwoz - 1/29/2011, 3:03 AM
This is the first comic book movie I actually have no interest whatsoever in seeing. Thank you very much fox for making that possible for me.
hush - 1/29/2011, 3:55 AM
i'm still going to give it a go

and i hope it turns out to be better than x-3, it will be nice wtching an x-men movie without hugh jackman in every second shot
IcemanX - 1/29/2011, 3:57 AM
@crashrendar
yes, oliver platt could be a cia agent, anybody (perhaps Vaughn) said in an interview that the x-men work together with the CIA.
magnumsnake - 1/29/2011, 4:24 AM
Yawn...I'm saving my 15 dollars or 750 Indian rupess on this one.

loljournalism What's disastrous about this? I'm not seeing it. OH, you're saying the movie's going to be disastrous? I gotcha, well obviously you're an industry "insider" and have seen a Workprint or something of the sort, so I'll just have to trust your awesome journalistic integrity on this.
marvel72 - 1/29/2011, 5:39 AM
excitement level for this film is at 0.
JoshWilding - 1/29/2011, 5:54 AM
Looks like the mysterious "Man in Black" is just some CIA guy. Big who cares. marvel72 pretty much sums up my feelings about X-Men: First Class! I wonder who it is that drops that whatever it is on the car though? Probably another random mutant who has no place being in this film! :P
LEEE777 - 1/29/2011, 5:55 AM
captainamerica @ No ones a bitch here... fact is its not a real First Class movie... we've got no First Class in it (cept a blue Beast?), and we have a younger Emma Frost in the sixties to the one in Origins amongst other stupid things, Fox can't keep to their own twisted movie-verse... don't need to see a trailer to see this is one big slap in the face.

I hope Marvel Studios gets them rights back soon because I (like many others) can't deal with another 10 years of X-movies from Fox!

Marvel72 @ - 0!

Gunslinger - 1/29/2011, 6:46 AM
@ captainamerica

Here's why most people think the movie will suck before seeing a trailer:

1) Sebastian Shaw: in the comics he's the white king of the Hellfire Club, a centuries old club with "venues" around the world exclusively created to cater the filthy rich and influential political figures. The connections they had with for example Senator Robert Kelly led to government funding of the sentinel program, after the Dark Phoenix story arc in which the Hellfire Club had a massive influence.

In the movie, Hellfire Club is a night club (a bit poor in comparison don't you think?). There's no inner circle (if there is, apparently Emma Frost isn't the White Queen).

2) Magneto is a James Bond kind of guy. X-Men. James Bond. Two completely different things. I love Star Wars, so why not make Professor X a Darth Vader kind of guy? Well, because it makes no sense. That's not who the character is.

3) Moira is a CIA agent.......................................................................... don't even know where to start with that one. It's too ridiculous for me to even bother bashing it.

4) You have dialogue gems like Azazel shouting at Mystique "You will have my baby". Wow. I would expect a line as absurd as that in a movie like Naked Gun because it is hilarious, but not in an X-Men movie. In an X-Men movie it will be cringing.

5) Vaughn doesn't seem to even take into consideration the history of the X-Men. Why does Vaughn come along with his god complex saying that there is no canon and he can effectively bastardise the X-Men? According to him, their history has always been changed whenever it suited the writers. Not so. First Class will always be Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast and Iceman (later joined by Angel).

Magneto will always have been a friend to Xavier who decided to go against him as their views on how to save mutantkind were too different.

Xavier does not lose his hair by using his powers (as some rumours lead us to believe, hope even Vaughn is not that stupid).

I could go on but writing about this failure of a movie (yes, even before I see a trailer) is giving me an ulcer.

Vaughn is a talented director but to be honest he should stick to what he knows: crime movies. Stardust was underwhelming and Kick-Ass... well, with a story like that even a chimp like Ratner could do it and it would still be good.

If he doesn't stick to the source material in its most basic aspects (and he did with Kick-Ass despite a few changes), he shouldn't even bother.

This movie is a fail and I hope it bombs tremendously, I hope it's the biggest failure of a CBM ever, just so that Fox gives up screwing characters I've been reading about for over 20 years. Can't wait for Marvel to get the rights back and do the X-Men the way they're supposed to be.
LocoLobo1127 - 1/29/2011, 7:43 AM
Tell em GINSLINGER!! I agree 100%, Also on that not , I dont need to see a trailer to know that i want nothing to do with this movie, Like many of the points Slinger makes, there is only one that truly matters These ARE NOT XMEN. Also I dont need to eat something to know that im not going to like it, all I need to do is look at the ingredients. Oh yeah and I reall dont like the ingredients in this movie
Watcher - 1/29/2011, 8:30 AM
I concur, Gunslinger. Well said.

These are all things we know about this movie BEFORE it hits the theater which is exactly why the tired old "How can you judge a movie you haven't seen" argument is absolute bullshit.

Objectively, knowing those things doesn't mean the movie itself will be a bad one. But that doesn't matter. If you don't like this movie because of the choices they made in it, then that's as legitimate a criticism as any other.
chucksome12391 - 1/29/2011, 11:42 AM
can't wait to see the trailer.
tripttwe - 1/29/2011, 12:05 PM
@ Gunslinger Bravo...
newmutants - 1/29/2011, 12:29 PM
BOORINGGG ! Major epic Fail !
Kyos - 1/29/2011, 12:34 PM
Wait, this "You will have my baby!" line I keep reading here is actually from 'First Class'? And Moira works for the CIA? Oh well...

I have to join the zero excitement camp on this. I'm totally psyched for Thor, curious about how Cap will be, not too much into what we've seen from GL so far, but this movie does absolutely nothing for me. Which is really sad, because based on the director and parts of the cast it should be different. But every new info we get about the whole project adds to my feeling that 'First Class' is just some kind of elaborate joke.

Now please give me an insanely awesome trailer to change that feeling, will you?! Because it sucks.
Darknight1208 - 1/29/2011, 1:01 PM
God!!! people give the movie a chance there has been no actual footage to judge from yet....that doesnt always signify FAIL!...all we have seen are set pics and whatnot and with movie magic alot of things can happen.. Wait til there is some footage released then judge jeeez! I admit yes "the last stand" wasn't much of what people expected! ever since then people's excitement for the franchise has dropped, but just give the movie a chance, the actors work very hard on these projects for people to be bashing them like that without seeying actual footage!
gambgel - 1/29/2011, 1:14 PM
the problem with the haters is that they dont understand that:

- The X-men Movie saga is a NEW interpretation of the X-men. Not a faithful adaptation.

- It has been since Day 1. since X-men 1.

- It will always be with the secuels or prequels from the main trilogy.

- I you dont accept this, you wont be satisfied with ANY movie from THIS saga.
gambgel - 1/29/2011, 1:26 PM
I can understand them.

but all the hate to this movie make them look like childs.

They forget easily how interesting is to see an x-men movie in the 60's.
- The origin of Xavier, Mystique, Beast, Havoc, Moira... not told yet on the movie franchise.
- The cool action scenes we'll see
- the big HELLFIRE CLUB!! come on!! who x-men fan doesnt want to see them?

and the list can go on an on
gambgel - 1/29/2011, 1:57 PM
I you dont like the concept of this prequel, Perfect.

so, those who dont like it, dont need to come here each day Hating a movie that is part of this new intrepretation of the x-men, and a movie that hasnt been released yet.

So, respect this movie and keep you negativity until you see the movie.

DarylTheBear - 1/29/2011, 2:22 PM
What it all boils down to is the fact that a massive multi-million dollar making movie company isn't going to split hairs with comic book scholars regarding Wolverine's yellow suit, Altered origin stories or Magnetos shiny helmet.
Their Job is to make serious ker-ching and to do that they have to make the films as accessible to the masses as possible without losing core thematic intergrity.

Will this film be the Citizen Kane of Comic Book Movies? ... No.
But if it engages enough people worldwide to maybe tap into the original source material, pick up a few comics, read up on their heroes, then I for one think that can only be a good thing.

Thing is... don't start whining, bitching and dumping on the film and it's makers before you've even seen the bloody thing.
But if it's a massive steaming turd with no redeeming qualities, I'll be the first in line at Fox with a rock in my hand.

X-Men have always and will always kick-ass
SKGannbit - 1/29/2011, 2:30 PM
boycott
gambgel - 1/29/2011, 2:53 PM
yes, DarylThebear. Ill be the first to complain too, hehe.

But I dont expect the best movie on earth, so I already know I will enjoy this movie.

This time, I dont know many spoilers from the movie, like happened with X3, so the first watching on the theatre will be better.
Gunslinger - 1/29/2011, 4:43 PM
@ gambgel, banekill, darknight

If Fox held the rights to Batman, and they decided to change his story by making him a plumber... who was inspired by Superman to fight against crime, and took a young vigilante with a penchant for the theatrical called Joker as his sidekick... well, you'd probably applaud and say "wait for the trailer, it's just a different take on the character, fanboys are never happy".

You know what? First Class may actually be a fun movie to watch about superpowered people. It just won't be X-Men. So why not just change the names of the characters and create a whole new mythology and build a new, original franchise out of that?

Professor X > Professor Follicle - A young telepath burdened by the knowledge that if he abuses his power he will go bald. One. Hair.At.A.Time.

Azazel > Pinky The Demon - A demon cast out of hell who needs to impregnate a woman in order to save the universe.

Moira Mactaggert > Agent Cassidy - She works for the CIA and she's Irish. Hilarity ensues.

Sebastian Shaw > Mega DJ - An evil former DJ who owns a night club. Wears nice suits and has a submarine.

Magneto > Mr. Agent Man - A secret agent who puts James Bond to shame with lots of shiny gadgets... and who apparently, as a bonus, has some degree of control over metals though that's not as interesting and should be played down as much as possible.

Beast > Monkey Boy - You know what? For all I care Fox could tweak his powers and actually give him the ability to turn his enemies into bananas and eating them.

Sh!t, make it something else unrelated to the X-men and I'll probably enjoy it as much as... I don't know.... Heroes?
This thing about it being a new take on the characters... the take is so new they're not even the same characters.
If you want to love the movie, it's your right to do so and my opinion is worth exactly as much as you paid for it. But this is a site where people with a common interest come together to discuss it and diverging opinions are a part of it.

If you want to love it - Great, enjoy it, rave about it and if you want to , tell us why it's so great.

If you hate it - Great, join the club and if you want to, tell us why.

This is what's so great about freedom of speech: you can express your opinions freely and if someone doesn't like it.... tough.
MovieTheaterLad - 1/29/2011, 6:37 PM
@Gunslinger

The characters in the film aren't even remotely as different as you make them out to be.
Gunslinger - 1/29/2011, 7:00 PM
@ Movietheaterlad

Yeah, I know they aren't. It's an exaggeration created solely for the purpose of making a point (think even Fox executives will be able to come up with better concepts than Monkey Boy), while making fun of all the stuff we've been hearing from Vaughn, Fassbender and McAvoy.

They should create something new and leave X-Men for Marvel. In my opinion.
flames809 - 1/29/2011, 8:05 PM
gun- shut up and go read the comic book of first class if you dnt want to see the movie, cause no one forcing to see it. and wait for a [frick]ing trailer to judge it.

movie looks good and it will be a good movie and a x-men movie. and this shit gets annoying everyday ppl bitching about fox and say for x-men to back to marvel. i am one who likes x-men in fox hands and i hope they stay with fox for a long while to.
