The Amazing Spider-Man Not Complete A Reboot?

From an apparent quote from Executive producer of Sony's Marc Webb-directed The Amazing Spider-Man, Avi Arad says that the events of the previous Spidey franchise won't be erased from the reboot. Check it out!

Apparently, according to ThinkMcFlyThink, inside the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, the Executive producer Avi Arad makes the assumption that Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man film won't stray from the Sam Rami-directed trilogy.

"Exec producer Avi Arad says the film won't erase what came before but will try to weave a narrative that could take place within the framework of the earlier films. 'It's not a comeback,' he says. 'You have to look at it this way: Do you want to know more about Spider-Man? This movie is going to tell stories that you didn’t see in movies 1, 2, and 3."

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters July 3, 2012 in 3D!

Haha, what an idiotic thing to say! Of course it's a reboot! It's hardly telling stories that we didnt see in the first three when he'll be in high school and in a relationship with Gwen, not to mention a dozen other inconsistencies!

@Josh....thats true, there is NO WAY that this film can take place in between any of the Raimi considering that there is as you said a dozen inconsistencies. Gwen, The Web shooters, the Suit, The Lizard, No MJ, High School, No J.J., and many others we haven't seen yet. This isn't Superman returns that takes place after 2 and ignores 3 and 4

ComicCritic87: Yeah, I think what he's trying to say is that this movie just tells more stories about Spider-Man, but Entertainment Weekly have confused that by making it sound as if the movie will take place within the world of the last three. Nonsense! :)

it can't take place during the last three because he meets gwen for the first time in spider-man 3,but his at high school with her in the new movie.

Of course it's a reboot! MJ will likely not be in this movie, and Gwen is the sole love interest....but in the first Spidey, it was the other way around.
Avi needs to be fired if he's making bullcrap statements like that.

They're saying that because people are mad about the reboot so they're saying "What reboot? It's more like a kschliferatizz."

lol. Why is Avi Arad trying to hide that its a reboot???

A reboot is a reboot, nothing else fancy.

Anyway, this movie is looking good so far, just hope that Webb and crew deliver an awesome movie.

I'm thinking, The Amazing Spider-man will be to Spider-Man what The Incredible Hulk was to The Hulk. Nuff' said.

Rather than a "re-boot," it is a "re-imagining of the character." They throw out whatever they didn't like from the Raimi films, just keep the stuff they like and tell new stories.

In other words, it is a re-boot but they don't want to call it that so people don't think they are going to see the same movie again. It is Hollywood double-speak.

and yeah, Deathlok, just like the Incredible Hulk. The origin will be there but kind of glossed over. The inconvenient stuff (organic web shooters for Spidey, the homicidal father for Hulk) will just be ignored.

Isn't interesting that "Hulk" went to "Incredible Hulk." "Spider-man" is going to "Amazing Spider-man."

As long as they don’t have the Green Goblin or any incarnation of him in the movie, he can call it a “non-reboot” all he wants.

The Osborn’s (Norman/Harry) are as overused as Lex it to the Superman movies. Lets see some new villains!

It was GREAT to see Doc O and even though it sucked, to see Venom on screen.

Bring on Carnage, Tombstone, Kraven, or Mysterio. Just to name a few....
