Marvel and Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble flick The Avengers is gradually filming away in Albuquerque, New Mexico. And while early promotion is expected in the coming weeks, I recently stumbled across potential reports from the secretive set. Twitter user Lionheart3rd, whose apparently working on the film, may have further confirmed an extraterrestrial life form villainizing the team, among other interesting tidbits. With a spoiler warning, read on below

  • First test explosion: Badassness!

  • Dargo'ing up the actors takes a bit

  • Scarlet came up to us and asked about our equipment. Funny watching her be impressed w/ us. She's pretty cool.

  • The crane shot of Hawkeye and Blackwidow is money.

  • Explosion 2: even badasser!

  • Watching them choreograph Cap beatin' up some aliens (or somethin) too cool.

  • The aliens use Jaffa staffs. Tel'c would not be pleased.

  • Everything is moving to the otherside of the set. It's funny watching Joss carry his chair.

  • Got the schedule for tomorrow, must try to be on that shift.

  • For those of you who geek over these things, they're using iPads to show ppl the shot lists w/ the CGI or a rough makeup of it.

  • Joss just did his example of an alien charging down set. Scary is not the first word I'd choose, nor the fifth.

  • Getting coverage w/ stunt doubles now. Suddenly a lot of shots are becoming clear.

  • While you're free to take these with a grain of salt, interestingly, the source's Twitter account has now been disabled; what could that mean? Anyhow, what do you think of the info?

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

Well, if he is really working on the movie that pretty much confirms the Skrulls and or Kree..although it has already been "pretty much" confirmed already. I wish Marvel would release something official soon, the movie is shooting a while now.

Man I just hope they do some team up moves using their abilities. Like if Hulk tosses Cap and his Shield somewhere...(assuming Hulk isn't bad the whole time) or if Thor and Iron Man teamed up for something bad ass. Kinda like Ultimate Alliance...tag team moves were awesome...

beyond pumped for this movie, if anybody can direct a group dynamic its Whedon. Look at Firefly, Serenity and Dollhouse. Each of them have loads of characters and great chemistry between them.

I have no clue how TDKR beat out this movie in Hype. I have been waiting for a movie like this to come out since I was 12.
    RunDTC - 6/8/2011, 7:12 PM
I am not familiar with Whedon's work except for his work on "Astonishing X-Men", which I thought was fantastic. and actually got "Serenity" from my local library and plan to watch it this weekend. but anyway, back to what I was getting to. what if....Loki, Skrulls, Kree, AND Thanos were all involved as villains for the film? I know that seems hard with a budget of only $150 million but still. THAT would be cool.
    superotherside - 6/8/2011, 7:12 PM
probably the skrulls? if so that's awesome! ;)
    nld3 - 6/8/2011, 7:18 PM
TOO MUCH SPOILER IN TOPIC LINK!
    ClosetNerd - 6/8/2011, 7:31 PM
Are they following the storyline from the Ultimates? Skrulls instead of those other random shapeshifters... I'd prefer seeing a big baddies at the end to go along with an invasion.

    Stargate reference!

i actually really hope that skrulls arent in this, or that if they are they are explained as inhabitants of the nine realms or something thorish. with everything going on in this movie, i think aliens would just be too much for non comic readers to digest. as least from iron mans POV, he will already have to handle asgard n everything thor. why not incorporate villains completely from that so that everything fits together a bit more and everyones not going "OK, so we got iron man, a jolly green giant, a super soldier, a lightning god and his evil brother, AND ALIENS? i know asgardians n frost giants etc r technically aliens anyway but skrulls would be different; theyd be knew to thor too. all these colourful ppl on camera fighting an army of green men too, might be a lil too much for some lol. or it could be EPIC, what do i know lol?
    croniccris - 6/8/2011, 8:01 PM
    PLEASE LET IT BE THANOS!!!
    kingmonkeyman - 6/8/2011, 9:08 PM
I hope Mr. Impossible from the planet Poppup is the main antagonist. Shape shifting Poppupians are waay cooler than shape shifting Skrulls
    RunDTC - 6/8/2011, 9:10 PM
@Xenix: well they don't have "Firefly". is it really necessary to understand the movie? I thought it could be viewed as a stand-alone.
    luckylu - 6/8/2011, 9:28 PM
booo shoulda saved the skrulls for the 2nd or 3rd( if these reports confirm rumors)
    DCMarvelFreshman - 6/8/2011, 9:28 PM
Marvel is no joke. That guy's Twitter account is Gone! Legitimacy has shown itself!
    Ranger14 - 6/8/2011, 9:29 PM
runDTC@I have to agree with Xenix. Serenity was filmed to wrap up what was a phenomenal series that was ended way too soon. The movie will make more sense and mean more if you watch the series first and the series is definitely worth watching.

I am stoked for this film! How can a comic book fan not be excited about seeing these iconic figures battling together on the big screen? Whedon knows how to take a vast array of personalities who might not get along or agree with each other, but somehow portray them as a team that gets something done.

how do you post pics again?
coz i have a fan art of the Avengers too...
    tnx guys ^_^
    Orphix - 6/9/2011, 1:39 AM
Not sure if anyone else has metioned this but the 'aliens' don't necessarily have to mean Skrulls or Kree.

If Loki is the main antagonist then the aliens could be the frost giants again - invading from Jotunheim? With Laufrey dead would Loki not be his natural successor?

Might explain the 'staffs' as weapons too.
    NeoBaggins - 6/9/2011, 1:53 AM
Orphix You're right; Asgardians or other-worlders to "us" are indeed, Aliens. Thor is an alien just as Superman is. I think Loki left without the staff though.

It's highly unlikely that Skrulls will be in this, or at least, exclusively. They will play it cheap and safe and make an Avengers movie in a modest range. Unless the budget has went up and I missed the memo. And even then, an alien aspect and everything that comes with it on top of the Avengers using up FX resources... no. Not gonna happen.

@screechop, @runDTC, @JacksonVegaIII - I can't wait to see this film im so excited but it could turn out to be absolute shit. Everyone on this site praises Whedon but he is far from a great director or a safe pair of hands. When you compare the love that Nolan gets, it's deserved because he's directed some truly great films whereas Whedon is responsible for 3 shows that got cancelled and a film which I enjoyed but wasn't exactly amazing. I can understand the excitement surrounding this film but as I said I have my doubts about Whedon. Who cares if all the actors have praise for him now, what actor openly bitches about the director while they're shootin the film
    RunDTC - 6/9/2011, 7:09 AM
@Xenix and Ranger14: OK. I actually just found them all on YouTube.

    Fogs - 6/9/2011, 7:14 AM
I'm pretty sure they're coming with the hulk menace in the beginning (probably the scene when they know each other), and then they fight the skrulls (the real menace), in avengers 1.

In avengers 2 we have Thanos. Possibly in the end of avengers 1 we see thanos becoming the menace, maybe stealing his gauntlet from odin's vault and [frick]ing things up there.
