Not only debuting a new trailer for Marvel & Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger film, tomorrow's Hero Complex Film Festival will also be giving away a retro-minded poster, created essentially for cast & crew members. With credits to artist Paolo Rivera, you can now check out the poster below and a word from Rivera on the giveaway lower!

Also, Paolo Rivera recently updated his blog ultimately discussing the poster, the process of making it & more!

I'm taking a break from my blog break today to finally reveal my secret project from the beginning of the year! Late last year, I had asked Marvel if they would consider a painted approach for any of their upcoming movies. To prove I was up to the task, I did a Captain America poster "on spec" (which was later used as the cover to a movie tie-in comic). As it turned out, the job was already taken, but they liked my work well enough to commission a "vintage" poster that would be given as a gift to the entire cast and crew.

The prints, limited to 100 or so, were reproduced at actual size. Even Stan Lee got one! I was given access to a vast collection of production stills—each emblazoned with a watermark pattern of my name—from which I selected my favorites. All of the lettering is hand-drawn, with the exception of the small credits at the top and bottom (I ran out of steam). While I did some post-production work in Photoshop, the original looks more or less like what you see here. You'll have to wait until I finish Daredevil #3 before I share some of the behind-the-scenes material, but the "Hitler getting punched" reference will be well worth the wait.

I couldn't be more excited to finally share this with everyone and I can't wait to see the movie, which comes out next month. And before I get back to drawing Daredevil, I'd also like to thank Stephen Broussard, Kevin Feige, Joe Quesada, and Tom Glinkowski for giving me the opportunity and facilitating the entire process. This was the first time I pursued a project at Marvel of my own volition (as opposed to being offered one) and I was very happy with the results. Makes me want to try out a new other ideas... but that will have to wait for now.

Captain America: The First Avenger focuses on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull. Starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Stanley Tucci and Hugo Weaving, the film releases July 22, 2011.

Ironbat95 - 6/11/2011, 12:36 PM
Notice how Cap is in his final costume, not USO costume in this pic. Could this mean that the Hitler punch scene is not just a part of the USO show?

great find @dcmf and great, beautiful poster
Gmoney84 - 6/11/2011, 12:37 PM
HOLY CRAP, that is the most awesome thing EVER!!
Amazo - 6/11/2011, 12:39 PM
Should do the whole campaign retro. The other stuff they've released looks the same as everything else in the market place. This would really have made it stand apart.
Talontd - 6/11/2011, 12:40 PM
Damn, that sh!t is cool!!!

These should definitely be hanging up in theaters!!!
Ne0Baggins - 6/11/2011, 12:40 PM
Poster is pretty cool. Costume looks like a football uniform more than ever there, but it fits the time period I guess. The Howling Commandos addition is a nice touch too.
Jaspion - 6/11/2011, 12:40 PM
This is so cool

And Evans helmet is pretty similar to that cap first mask, nice!
Daniellantern - 6/11/2011, 12:44 PM
Cool!! Cap kick Hitler ass! yeahh!

Wow, beautiful artwork.
LoudLon - 6/11/2011, 12:47 PM
Wow. Great retro vibe to that poster. As good as the painting itself is with the actors and the cool-as-hell Hitler punch, it's the lettering that really screams 1940s Hollywood. I would proudly hang this poster in my den for all to see.

Beautiful work.
capfan88 - 6/11/2011, 12:50 PM
fantastic...this should have been the advertising from the beginning. gives the flavor of a 'retro' period piece. and, if this had been the main poster for the film, would probably attract and even bigger audience.

so pumped to see it, nonetheless.
Moron - 6/11/2011, 12:55 PM
Thats fecking fantastic. Still not sold on the film though.
gambgel - 6/11/2011, 12:55 PM

greenlanter13 - 6/11/2011, 12:58 PM
Cool poster wish I could get one
mrteaspoon - 6/11/2011, 1:00 PM
I would pay $100 for a print of this, just frickin amazing.
FrankGarret - 6/11/2011, 1:01 PM
This should be one of the official posters.

Bucky's head is hillariously tiny, and I thought they were supposed to be the Invaders?
Frecks - 6/11/2011, 1:02 PM
i love it

marvel72 - 6/11/2011, 1:21 PM

HULK2099 - 6/11/2011, 1:25 PM
I hope theyre confirming that scene in movie!! HITLER PUNCH
PetterONE - 6/11/2011, 1:30 PM
Awesome! Pity they don't make 'em like this anymore. But than again, that's what makes this so cool as well!
JULEZ13 - 6/11/2011, 1:34 PM
Wow! This is utterly amazing! Great artwork! I frickin love it! They should really use this for marketing! It'll draw so much attention just because it'll be different than all the digital stuff that is out right now. Since this movie is a period piece it would have been cool to have that period's style of art. FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC!!!

I want one!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna get one of these one day! Whether it be next month of ten years from now, but I will get one, frame it and put it on my wall - especially if this movie is boss!!
BIGBMH - 6/11/2011, 1:38 PM
Very cool. :) It nails that retro feel and does a great job of paying homage to the debut Captain America cover. I don't think you all should get your hopes up too much about the Hitler punch actually being in the movie, at least not in the way you might think. I believe mild spoilers have said that it will be worked in through some creative means.
