Christopher Meloni Reveals Man Of Steel Role Details And His Filming Dates!

Chris Meloni, who we learned yesterday signed on for an unknown role in Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel has now revealed details and may not be Lex Luthor, like many speculated.

News broke yesterday that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actor Christopher Meloni was rounding out the cast of Zack Snyder's much-anticipated Superman reboot, Man Of Steel. While details on the role were undisclosed, chatting recently with Vulture, the actor has now revealed somewhat who he'll portray.

When Vulture caught up with the now ex-Law & Order: SVU star at the Public Theater Gala earlier this week, he told us he'd be instead playing a general in the movie. But when we pressed for more information about the role, he said, "I can't tell you, or I'd have to kill you." We did manage to learn that he starts filming at the end of August and he'll shoot his part over the course of five months in locations including Chicago, Vancouver, and Edwards Air Force Base.

If the role is in fact "major", like previous reports suggested, it's possible this "General" could be General Sam Lane, father of Lois Lane, which actress Amy Adams will portray. If true, who do you think?

Man Of Steel, starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond and Russell Crowe, reportedly commences production next month, and is slated for theaters Mid-December 2012!

Sounds legit, but it could be any general.
I seriously doubt he'll be Same Lane.
Meloni playing Adams' dad?
Sure they could pull it off with make-up etc but I don't think it's likely.

Or maybe not. They could do what they did in BB. Comissioner Loeb was in charge but then he got his ass handed to him by the joker in TDK, which made Jamea Gordon Comissioner. He could be playing some random General before he too goes bye bye and Lois' dad steps in.
But that is very unlikely

I would say Sam Lane, but due to him and Amy Adams age difference then no unless flashback or something (e.g.make-up). Probably just a random general.

well they still might casting Lex. if they going to have a general in this movie the general needs some hi-tech weapons from a powerful business man lol.

I'm thinking that, since this is supposed to be the last major casting role for the film, Lex won't be in the first film (unless he has a small cameo or something).

i did remember a rumor about LexCorp been linked to the General. i remember hearing the General wanting weapons to fight both Superman and Zod.

just because he's filming at an Air Force base doesnt neccessarily mean he's not Luthor, heck it could be Luthor personally going to sell the product, could be a hint to what Superman's First appearance will be

@patrauitism wow, General Lane looks an awful lot like a younger Clint Eastwood in that comic

It's probably General Lane if he's a General and it's a fairly big part, although he's too close to Amy Adams' own age. Unless he's another General. Either way, there's bound to be a scene where General Zod interacts with him and references that they share the same military title.

@jazzman: Yeah, I really hope your right too.

This is very disappointing. He's gonna be a general? I really wanted him for Lex but I guess that rules out Brainiac too unless there's a story in the comics of his that I don't know about.

I hope he is Metallo. This film is in desperate need of another main villain.

Both the government and Lex Luthor are going to want to kill and/or capture Superman and Zod out of pure fear of these all powerful beings. Metallo would be the way to do this. Then after Superman defeats Zod, Metallo goes haywire and Superman would have to stop him.

I still believe Lex will be in this film. He's the mastermind behind all the electronics in the Superman mythos. If Meloni is Sam Lane then he would most likely team-up with Lex for a common cause.

Lex has to have some sort of role. If anything, it's gonna be a really small role. They'll probably build on him in the sequels, like they are probably doing with Norman Osborn in the Spidey reboot.

I am tired of Lex Luthor. How often has he showed up? Three Christopher Reeve movies, Superman Returns, numerous appearances on the 90s Superman show, even more appearances on the Smallville show, and quite a few showings in animated material.

Enough of Lex Luthor...at least for a LONG time.

What if they are just using the word "general" as a play on words just to frick with us. It's practically illegal telling anyone anything at all about the film, especially an actors specific parts since the studios will hunt them down and kill them. lol We all know how secretive Nolan likes to be and with him as the producer the people involved with him will definitely try to frick with our heads. So who knows what his role might be. We're just gonna have to wait for official confirmation.

u dont know what u talking about. first of Lex in the Superman movies was never portrayed right. Lex no matter what is part of Superman life.

Yeah Lex should be played by Jon Hamm, but Chris Meloni was a close second. Both are great actors.

I can also see him as Gen. Lane too.

I gotta give this guy props he starts at is career is a convict and becomes a police officer alida general lol good for you chris. It could be Gen. Lane. He could have been really young when Lois was born. Personally I would b blown away if it turns out to be Zod, I think Maloni would rock as Zod

@jazzman- THANK YOU! Exactly- Lex was NEVER portrayed correctly, always some lame hustler.

He was as threatening in the old films as a [frick]ing car salesman.

I hope you're right about the General possibly buying and using weapons from Lexcorp!

@JULEZ- Hahahaha 'i see the wishful-thinking is strong in you' hahaha joking but yeah I share your sentiments. Lex has GOT to be in this film to some degree. Obviously a small role but he needs to be in this. He was never portrayed correctly on film. This is their chance to fix him. I don't get why everyone else seems to be so against Lex being in this film, but they're ok with perry white or jimmy olsen.

Also @jazzman- Yeah i agree with you dude- Jimmy has GOT to be more modern in this film. No more of the geek, please Snyder!

@LP4: Yeah, I would like to see an intimidating Lex. I got pretty excited when I heard Meloni was gonna be in it. He has that perfect sinister look that you never know what he's up to. That's what we need from Lex!

I really wanna know more about this movie. Can't wait to see Henry in costume. Hopefully we'll be able to see some set pics of him in it by the end of the year (since filming starts in August). At least some concept art would be nice!
