We learned only last week that Marvel Studios were eyeing two Game Of Thrones episode directors, Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan, to helm their much-anticipated Thor sequel, following Kenneth Branagh and Patty Jenkins' departure. However, questionable news outlets, 3 News NZ among others, seem to think Marvel has chosen a "favorite."

Alan Taylor is reportedly in talks to take over the Thor movie franchise following the departure of director Patty Jenkins.

Taylor, known for his work on shows like Mad Men, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, has emerged as the favorite to pick up where Kenneth Branagh left off.

When news broke that Marvel narrowed their search down to two, they were also closing in on a new scribe to rework Don Payne's script. With no word on who they've chosen, the contenders are John Collee (Happy Feet), Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan), Sheldon Turner (co-wrote X-Men: First Class), and Robert Avary (Pulp Fiction).

For those who don't know, the sequel will follow the Norse God "literally" to other worlds on an adventure, with the Warriors Three and Lady Sif, among other Asgardians. And the movie is said to explore Thor's deepening relationship with the all-father Odin, and love interest Jane Foster. With Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston confirmed to reprise their roles, with Ray Stevenson, Joshua Dallas, Jaimie Alexander, Tadanobu Asano and Anthony Hopkins expected, THOR 2 is slated for release July 26, 2013.

I heard that Game of Thrones was a good show. So with that, I'm sure that Mr. Alan Taylor will give us an awesome sequel. Just please, please, introduce characters like Balder, The Enchantress, The Executioner, more screen time for The Warriors Three, and also, explore more of the Nine Realms. I garuantee that that'll make the sequel just BEYOND EPIC!!

Stay EPIC, my friends!
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 12/13/2011, 5:30 PM
Okay, just by looking at the comments above mine's, I think that the fans definitely approve of Alan Taylor as director for the sequel. So, Marvel, make the right decision and get this man on the job for directing the Thor sequel. ;)
sexfoodcomics - 12/13/2011, 5:30 PM

just don't cram too many characters in it.
Spidey91 - 12/13/2011, 5:45 PM
@Novax

GL had the writers from "No ordinary family",this guy worked on "Game of Thrones" and "Mad Men".
GUNSMITH - 12/13/2011, 5:45 PM
THATS THE RIGHT ONE...I WANNA SEE SUTUR AND HELA AND THOR TRAVELING THE 9 REALMS..MORE CREATURES, MORE MAGIC, MORE FIGHT SCENES.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 12/13/2011, 5:55 PM
@GUNSMITH - I agree, dude. :)
95 - 12/13/2011, 5:59 PM
Alan Taylor would be a good choice for me.
I have better vibes from this guy than from Branagh.
And Roger Avary for writer.

@DCMarvelFreshman

*ROGER* Avary.

marvel72 - 12/13/2011, 6:02 PM
game of thrones = very good show.

thor 2 = very good movie.
patriautism - 12/13/2011, 6:05 PM
Sounds like a good step to me.
Neek2086 - 12/13/2011, 6:06 PM
Yes yes, very good. I think he will make Thor 2 one of those sequels that far exceeds the
First movie.. And I Also think Kenneth Branagh did a real good job on the first Thor.. It's like
He showed us how Thor can be presented on screen and he left room to explore so Taylor will
Nail it.. And plus I'm glad it's a guy
mgeoff88 - 12/13/2011, 6:24 PM
I've been hearing great things about those shows so I hope he gets the gig.

@tweeeeenkies I hope they're in the sequel. Abbie Cornish for Valkyrie.

@Spidey91 I didn't know that about GL. That kind of makes sense now.
Ranger14 - 12/13/2011, 6:27 PM
Makes sense to me!
JohnTom88 - 12/13/2011, 6:33 PM
@EasterBunnyKiller

Patty Jenkins' Thor 2 doesn't happen. But Martin Campbell's Green Lantern happens...

Yikes
CaptainTall - 12/13/2011, 6:35 PM
God, I love how Marvel fans are quick to jump behind directors with little-to-no movie experience... but they can't find any reason to like Nolan.

Anyway...

I'd like whoever it was that directed Clash Of The Titans for this.
KingKazma - 12/13/2011, 6:37 PM
If this sequel turns out to be some epic journey through the Nine Realms, I say Thor should have a group to go with him consisting of the Warriors Three, Sif, and just for kicks, Hawkeye. Seriously, having Hawkeye in this group gives connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also, it gives this group of warriors an archer which is essential to any mythical quest.
Spidey91 - 12/13/2011, 6:42 PM
@mgeoff88
I didn't knew it either, the Spill.com crew mentioned it in their Green Lantern review.
thespiderman209 - 12/13/2011, 6:44 PM
@spidey63 do you always say "Stay EPIC, my friends!"?
SageMode - 12/13/2011, 6:52 PM

Thor Approves
superotherside - 12/13/2011, 7:01 PM
Don't know who he is but as long as it is good that's fine with me... :)
dahamma - 12/13/2011, 7:07 PM
I approve of this more so than Jenkins, I love Game of Thrones!
BigK1337 - 12/13/2011, 7:19 PM
I never watched Game of Thrones, but I just know the guy who directed that show would be perfect for Thor 2.

And to all those who doesn't think a tv director can make an awesome movie director; remember this Joss Wheddon was too a tv director, yet the movies he had directed are good.
Cross - 12/13/2011, 7:20 PM
-Mad Men
-Game of Thrones
-Boardwalk Empire

Now that's something. He's definitely too good for Thor II.
SageMode - 12/13/2011, 7:28 PM

Jon Favreau didnt really have that much directorial experience before Iron Man and look how well that movie was. It just depends on gettin the person who's vision fits the film. Nolan's dark-undertoned themes wouldnt work well with Marvel more un-dark characters.

that was Louis Leterrier that directed Clash of the Titans, he also did the Incredible Hulk film also, if you didnt know.
empire638 - 12/13/2011, 7:37 PM
This means nothing but awesomeness!!!!
nuclearpriest - 12/13/2011, 7:38 PM
Bad move! They should have chosen Brad Bird. He has a pre-existing relationship with Disney and , so far, he is getting rave reviews for MI4 on Rottentomatoes.com
Bodwulf - 12/13/2011, 8:40 PM
Have no idea who this is but,I hope he is awesome if he gets it.
Ranger14 - 12/13/2011, 8:51 PM
I love how some people think that just because someone works with television that they are working with an inferior product. It could be argued that directing television takes more skill and talent because you have to bring it on a consistent level for multiple episodes and many times multiple seasons. Films are a one shot deal and then move on to another new film (most of the time).
Ace101 - 12/13/2011, 9:58 PM
Besides his television work, Taylor has directed three feature films: Palookaville (1995) which holds a 64% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 11 reviews, The Emperor's New Clothes (2001) which holds a 73% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 85 reviews and Kill the Poor (2006) which holds 25% based on 8 reviews.
Ace101 - 12/13/2011, 10:00 PM
also hes directed 9 episodes of The Sopranos
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 12/13/2011, 10:00 PM
@thespiderman209 - Of course, dude. That's my little saying there. :)
Ace101 - 12/13/2011, 10:03 PM
Oh and [frick] yea awesome choice :)
@Gunsmith i agree, man that awesome and mind blowing
Ace101 - 12/13/2011, 10:05 PM
I hope they introduce Balder the Brave in Thor 2.
EarOne - 12/13/2011, 10:57 PM
MM and GoT are my current two most favorite shows. they both got big screen qualities...and if David Yates has shown us with his HP movies, it shows that tv directors might be just what these big budgeted franchises NEED..not some one hit wonder director, who then left with her tail between her legs.
KungFuKoala - 12/14/2011, 1:26 AM
Every single episode of Mad Men was awesome, so I'm happy to see this guy helming Thor 2.
Fogs - 12/14/2011, 5:26 AM
Game of Thrones = Totally Epicness

Those who disagree with will freeze to death.
nuck82 - 12/14/2011, 7:06 AM
well if you look at all the shows he has directed there all time period shows, so i kinda like that, since we all hope thor 2 takes place in asgard mostly. he should fit in well. and all the shows he has been with have won awards. not sure if the shows he did won any, but hes been apart of them in some way. lets just hope for the best
TheGlove - 12/14/2011, 8:21 AM
So who's this nobody then? Marvel seem to be just using any old [frick] to direct their films, a TV director great! real vision that is.
