Officially announced via press release, Walt Disney Studios will be screening a "digitally re-mastered 3D version" of the highly-anticipated live-action assembly of Marvel's The Avengers in the glorious IMAX format.

“This highly-anticipated gathering of Marvel’s epic superheroes combined with the brilliant vision of Joss Whedon is sure to wow audiences when presented in IMAX 3D,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “The Avengers is a perfect film to kick-off our 2012 summer slate and we anticipate this limited IMAX engagement will be a must-see for fans around the world.”

The IMAX release of Marvel’s The Avengers will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to "Marvel's The Avengers," Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including "Iron Man 3" on May 3, 2013!; and “Thor 2” on November 15, 2013.

2D..If it was just in IMAX, I'd watch it..

But who knows, I'll probably change my mind and go see it in IMAX3D even though I hate it so that I can contribute to the film's higher box office revenue;)

Isn't that what you guys are doing? lol :p

@dark

I resent that you jackass! My fellow rangers battle more important issues like what kind of pizza should we get, which episode of Myth Busters should we watch, and most importantly who's turn is it to go get toilet paper!

TDKR is Blues Clues with a rubber suit. YOU SIR, ARE AN IDIOT.

There won't be any 2D IMAX screenings just in case anyone thinks there will be. I'll see this on 35mm at my local miniplex, amazing spiderman in digital 3d at the local multiplex (because of the 5k red camera usage) and TDKR in true IMAX in London. It has as much to do with my preference of technology as it does with the films themselves.

I've seen the dark knight., transformers 2, Hubble 3d And mission impossible in full screen IMAX and they were all amazing (well apart from most of transformers 2). But seeing batman begins at an IMAX as part of a batman all mightier did noting for me without the IMAX scenes.

IMAX conversions are as much of a money making gimmick as 3d conversions.

If the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen at the IMAX don't disappear at points during the film to make it 1.44:1 then u wont see me in an IMAX Cinema.
