Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures have pampered us with awesome posters and banners for The Avengers movie this past month, with some expected criticism here and there. However, the recently-released German poster for the much-anticipated film, via Prosieben.at, will surely make you appreciate the U.S. theatrical posters. I'm really into Hawkeye's costume now. At first I wished they would attempt more of a mask. But now the whole militaristic look feels really good to me
HULK2099 - 3/27/2012, 8:18 PM
Beautiful!
Lawlessone - 3/27/2012, 8:26 PM
So all I see is a bunch of movie star that refuse to wear something covering their faces, how dull. I'm sure Ironman always goes into battle without his helmet. They all must have thought, well if Thor can do it so can we.
Really dumb.
thewolfx - 3/27/2012, 8:30 PM
hawkeye looks like bland shit

cap needs to open up those ears

thor needs a [frick]in helmet once in a while

besides that im cool
SotNatt - 3/27/2012, 8:33 PM
It annoys me, still, to see Iron Man where Captain America should, rightfully, be, but I understand the marketing ploy.
NeoBaggins - 3/27/2012, 8:36 PM
This Maskless Iron Man front and center shit is lame as [frick]. I just want to see the movie now. I'm sick of these dumb ass recycled promos.
elessarundomiel2382 - 3/27/2012, 8:37 PM
at least its not as bad as Fantastic Four. Thing who struggles with his appearance and in finding a cure for some reason found one in FF1 and alien body switching in FF2 just so you could see the actor's face.

and dont forget Doctor Doom, his whole face is supposed to be scarred, yet in both movies he merely had a scratch on his face. and talk about bad acting. Worse villain ever.

So I forgive the Avengers for sometimes removing their helmets as it would interfere during a battle.
supermarioworldE - 3/27/2012, 8:39 PM
Ha! With that hand, Tony Stark should be a Gynecologist.
Phlegmbot - 3/27/2012, 8:43 PM
@Firgielicious The stance is weird, yes, but if you think like he's "getting ready for butt sex" that sounds like YOUR issue.
Ironnick - 3/27/2012, 8:44 PM
So far the marketing for this movie has been pretty bland. I hope they kick it up a couple notches in April.
PartyHard - 3/27/2012, 8:48 PM
Looks like shit.
Spidey91 - 3/27/2012, 8:49 PM
there's something about some movie posters that I don't understand...why can't all the characters be looking in the SAME direction? IM looking at the audience,Cap and Widow at the left,Hawkeye to the right.
not saying this poster is bad,far from it,just something that kinda bugs me.
JDUKE25 - 3/27/2012, 8:51 PM
ugh.........same ole pics just photoshopped to make a "different" poster. How fascinating...
JorLBola - 3/27/2012, 8:54 PM
That doesn't look very... "official" :)
JDUKE25 - 3/27/2012, 8:55 PM
@Spidey91 you should make an Avengers "Brady Bunch" poster where they're looking different directions lol :P
95 - 3/27/2012, 9:02 PM
Effective in displaying that this is THE superhero team up of a lifetime. But... it lacks the apocalyptic atmospheric background on the US version.
sahin86 - 3/27/2012, 9:05 PM
lame!!!
meatbag - 3/27/2012, 9:05 PM
Agreed, I prefer the American Photoshopped crap to the German Photoshopped crap.
Cartoon22 - 3/27/2012, 9:12 PM
this is lame! wtf Marvel we could make a better one in a few minutes
Cartoon22 - 3/27/2012, 9:17 PM
regardless MAY 4= EPIC arrives ...this movie is gonna blow the box office! CANT WAIT
Spidey91 - 3/27/2012, 9:17 PM
@JDUKE25
that's stretching it lol :P

just saying,a poster where they're all looking up all heroic and sh*t would be cool. it would be kind of generic,yes,but at least would give it some sense of unity and focus.
darkmetal - 3/27/2012, 9:23 PM
I think they shouldve made this a 2 parter like Kill Bill, Twilight and the Potter movies did, so each character/actor could really have plenty of time. It looks TOO BIG to be confined in one movie.
Niuhll - 3/27/2012, 9:29 PM
They're not wearing their masks because this is Marketing, they want to sell the film, why would they cover up RDJ's face? Or anybody's face?
liveman789 - 3/27/2012, 9:31 PM
UHHHHHHH am I the only one that noticed that Thor is holdins TWO HAMMERS? LMAO
liveman789 - 3/27/2012, 9:31 PM
^holding*
hartley07 - 3/27/2012, 9:32 PM
ew, looks like a cob job from some 13 year old in photoshop.
CoolantTech - 3/27/2012, 9:32 PM
Yeah that would be really weird to see Cap front and center on this one .. its German for [frick]'s sake so its ok, 'this time' only, and yeah.. Ironman needs a helmet, they all do.
Spidey91 - 3/27/2012, 9:37 PM
@liveman789

HOLY SH*T! you're right O_____o

that means...Thor is f*cking invincible in the movie! :P
Doctorwho22 - 3/27/2012, 9:43 PM
GOOD GOD! THOR HAS TWO HAMMERS NOW?!?!?! SHIT IS GONNA GET REAL! LOLOLOL
JDUKE25 - 3/27/2012, 9:43 PM
@liveman LMAO!!
DioFoRio - 3/27/2012, 9:52 PM
scheisse
LoudNoises - 3/27/2012, 10:00 PM
I really think that Cap needs to be front and center in these posters. I get why they have Ironman up front because of RDJ, but it just looks wrong having Cap always in the background. They better not give him the Cyclops treatment in this movie. I'll bet that Whendon wanted to keep the film more in Captain America POV but was pressured by the studio to not take away from RDJ's screen time because he has a larger draw in terms of ticket sales than Evans.
Cartoon22 - 3/27/2012, 10:05 PM
wow Thor has two hammers thats a fail who ever made the poster
liveman789 - 3/27/2012, 10:07 PM
@Cartoon22

Yeah, a fail for whoever tries to mess with Thor holding two hammers...
NeoBaggins - 3/27/2012, 10:13 PM
"They're not wearing their masks because this is Marketing, they want to sell the film, why would they cover up RDJ's face? Or anybody's face?"

Because EVERYONE knows who they are already. Seeing IRON MAN is way more exciting than seeing RDJ's old ass head poking out of the armor. Luckily, not wearing the helmet much for Cap works out for the better since his helmet looks so [frick]ed up. THOR looks better without his plastic hat as well. But Iron Man's mask is not an accessory; it's part of the damn suit.

And THOR holding two hammers indicates that terrible photoshop artist are on the case world wide when it comes to this promotion.
gambgel - 3/27/2012, 10:14 PM
that is fanmade, right?
Niuhll - 3/27/2012, 10:28 PM
@Neobaggins Yeah it's more exciting, but they don't need to advertise to us, we're money in the bank as far as they care. By taking off the masks and showing their faces they may hit demographics that would normally have turned this film down.

When Thor came out at my cinema we had the first couple of days the die hard fans, the rest of the week people (mainly guys) coming to see an action film and the following week a lot of woman (mainly 30's upwards) coming to see Chris Hemsworth take his shirt off, then some would come back with other friends.

And maybe everyone knows who they are, but they're playing it safe, thats why it's 'Avengers Assemble' in the UK, they're playing safe, they don't wanna lose a penny if its there to be taken.
Niuhll - 3/27/2012, 10:38 PM
But yeah, the Photoshop is poor.
MadTitan - 3/27/2012, 11:29 PM
they could have done better, see i can even make my own version but this time the concept is based on characters not who's playing it.

The NO Helmet Avengers...
johan02 - 3/28/2012, 12:12 AM
yeah, ok it looks cool. I would hand it on my wall, but am I the only slightly annoyed this is just a professional level photoshop of the same pro images theve been using for months. ALL these shots have been in 3 diffrent posters/baners(lol Banner).
I just dont get why you guys are all praising this like its beyond awesome, when its the same images from the last poster?
Giraffehead - 3/28/2012, 12:17 AM
I hope this is what the Germans like, because I think it's pretty terrible.

@Chard7
version 1 isn't much of an improvement, but I like version 2 much more.
Giraffehead - 3/28/2012, 12:22 AM
@Azazel

I know you know this, but since this keeps coming up, trust me on this: Robert Downey Jr. is much more marketable than Iron Man. And no, not everyone knows who plays Iron Man.

Ceejay - 3/28/2012, 12:35 AM
Okay enough with the Captain America being in front crap. When the Avengers started in 616 universe he wasn't even a team member till issue 4 and Hawkeye was still a villain from Iron Man's comics! This being more of a sensible adaptation from the Ultimates line of comics has members of SHIELD creating the team and Steve Rogers doesn't even know the world he's just woken up in so he aint gonna be the main guy obviously. He'll have to build into the Captain you all know today, not just instantly be the main man. Iron Man in terms of popularity IS the main man, plus he's the first they recruited for the team as well as the most influential and intelligent. That's why he deserves his place in the front of the poster and as first leader of the team.

As for stupid helmets, Thor doesn't need a helmet, he's near invulnerable, plus his version is a combination of The Ultimates Thor and 616 version, a Helmet is pointless in both except in 616 its just there because none of the dumb writers or artists question the point of it. In The Ultimates the writer was a whole lot sensible and got rid of it hence no helmet in the movie. As for the others, they're either agents who don't need masks or not secret-identity challenged like the average stupid superhero.

..And remember they're selling a MOVIE not a COMIC, people need to see the actors who are in it as a basic and time honoured selling point! Makes them easier to relate to for the general public. Not for fanboys who still have that almost homoerotic need to see muscular men in tight fitting spandex and masks.. eew!
NeoBaggins - 3/28/2012, 12:52 AM
Ok, let's break this down.

When it comes to "US", as Niuhll has pointed out; the film company already has our money- "we" being the comic geeks, the in-the-bag fan-base as opposed to the general public and/or the average movie-goer. But who honestly believes the average film-goer doesn't know Downey is Iron Man? Or at the very least, knows his face and not his name, which in this case would be irrelevant.

People know who Downey is NOW, BECAUSE OF, Iron man. I don't remember anyone checking for Downey before Iron Man. So either you didn't know him at all, or you we're like me: "Oh, I remember that dude". But either way, it was Iron Man that brought him to this point of notoriety. Geeks and normies alike knows he plays Iron Man.

Downey is about to play Iron Man for the third time in a movie, each movie released in similar fashion around the world. So, if you can't place the actor with the Iron Man suit at this point, chances are you don't give a [frick] and are not interested in the films.

"And no, not everyone knows who plays Iron Man."

This statement implies that seeing his head poking out of the armor makes a person say "Hey, that's Robert Downey Junior". But if you're familiar with RDJ, YOU ALREADY KNOW HE PLAYS IRON MAN. What fan of an actor misses a popular franchise starring that actor?

And you've seen Stark in trailers. Do you think Iron Man has been recast and Downy just has to be in the film coincidentally playing a different character?

Shitty posters with RDJ head on the Iron Man suit. The End.
Niuhll - 3/28/2012, 1:05 AM
I believe most people know Downey Jr is Iron Man, but they're covering their bases, it's the same reason the film is "Avengers Assemble" in the UK, because they KNOW people will get confused, and then complaints will come about because it's not the old TV show of the same name.

It happened with John Carter at my cinema, the amount of people that complained afterwards that it was in fact NOT about John CONNOR from Terminator, was shocking. That's a result of bad marketing, they didn't manage to make it fool proof (Though people will find a way to [frick] up i'm sure)

I do agree that these posters aren't good though.
NeoBaggins - 3/28/2012, 2:02 AM
@Niuhll

Calling it "Avengers Assemble" makes sense (to a small degree) if they want to separate it from the old TV show and movie which look NOTHING alike. But there's a logic and reasoning behind that and it's not the same as the Headless Iron Man issue we were discussing. If more Avengers posters had Iron Man in full suit in them, who would that confuse?

There are HULK pictures without Ruffalo and vice versa. They don't seem to be worried about confusion there and no one knows who the hell Mark Ruffalo is. How do you explain THAT?

MadTitan - 3/28/2012, 2:10 AM
@Giraffehead - precisely there really isn't much of an improvement my point is anyone can do a poster like that but at least the concept had to be based on comic book canon not just pure marketing bs that the suit think is the best, say in the case of "John Carter" which proves to be a fatal error on their part. do not over exposed RDJ when IM doesn't need much of un masking at all to make it even more look badass.
