Which one is from that clip of Thor and Cap fighting? I liked that one.
bhorwith22 - 4/22/2012, 3:35 PM
Only on the first track, but it sounds epic.
thewonderer - 4/22/2012, 3:38 PM
lol "Red Ledger"

Sounds okay, but not very memorable at all.

This will probably be the worst part of the film
jazzman - 4/22/2012, 3:39 PM
@Gaston

i agree this score only works on film not on its own.
antonio - 4/22/2012, 3:47 PM
Almost all the cues in the final battle sequence were brilliant. Other than, it's not memorable. Nothing against Silvestri cause I'm a huge fan of his, but the music from the final trailer was more memorable than most of the tracks on the OST, imo.

@Gaston

That's an agreeable and spot on assessment.
CaptainObvious - 4/22/2012, 3:50 PM
Listening to "A Promise" makes me think something bad is going to happen when it starts playing in the movie.
R888 - 4/22/2012, 3:51 PM

Here since you've become a pussy ill do it for you:

Shit music
brewtownpsych - 4/22/2012, 4:27 PM
i am sure it will be fine in the film but wow, totally forgettable. they should have used the thor guy. that theme was iconic in its own way. this one is bland and borrows from too many influences. I hear a lot of elfman (especially 89 Batman), and the main theme reminds me of a 80's james bond action sequence.
antonio - 4/22/2012, 4:28 PM
@MrAnonymous let me answer that question with another question...has Alan Silvestri done anything over the last 12 years that was Oscar worthy?
AlSimmons - 4/22/2012, 4:33 PM
Grif, the first Mummy was awesome. Mummy 2 was laaaaame.
brewtownpsych - 4/22/2012, 4:34 PM
I can't tell what track it is, but at about (3:14) in the 11th, 12th or 13th track (it's the one that is 4:26) long, it is a straight lift of elfman's Hulk.
LAXtremest - 4/22/2012, 4:34 PM
The Wonderer is in every single Avengers thread to shit on every aspect of the movie. That's called trolling right?
thewonderer - 4/22/2012, 4:35 PM
@Grif

RESPOND TO ME GRIF, DAMMIT, RESPOND TO ME
antonio - 4/22/2012, 4:37 PM
The Mummy Returns score was very good, but again nothing that stood out.

brewtownpsych - 4/22/2012, 4:42 PM
3:13 of one of the later tracks (one that's 4:00 long) has a motif that sounds exactly like X2.

That's the message I'm getting. I can't listen to it at all. Maybe it's only for you guys in the US? But anyways some of you clearly thinks its forgettable so I wouldn't be too pissed I can't listen to it.
Benjamitesandwich - 4/22/2012, 5:09 PM
I don't understand all the hate for this score . . . it's FANTASTIC!

I love good orchestrated scores like this. As far as I'm concerned, not too many people on this site know much about music. This is a very well put together score.

What makes a score good is it's ability to create emotion that we wouldn't feel without music. Silvestri was able to easily capture that in his Captain America score. No, I haven't seen The Avengers yet to determine if the score accomplished this (although the Cap/Thor clip gave us an idea).

Don't judge a score based on if it sounds cool or not. That is just wrong.
superotherside - 4/22/2012, 5:21 PM
I love it.
jessepostal - 4/22/2012, 5:25 PM
@saintspidey, where did u find the download,i cant find it anywhere

r1s1ng0fth3fall - 4/22/2012, 5:26 PM
+1 , cant find link....
Benjamitesandwich - 4/22/2012, 5:34 PM
@Brewtownpsych

I didn't hear X2 in any of this. I think you're just trying to find ways to hate on the score. It really is good.
AVEN - 4/22/2012, 5:35 PM
@jessepostal: "where did u find the download,i cant find it anywhere"

@aven, thanks bud:)
Benjamitesandwich - 4/22/2012, 5:41 PM
Wow, A Promise sounds absolutely incredible! Definitely a great theme for this movie. Very emotional and tense.
Benjamitesandwich - 4/22/2012, 5:43 PM
@Brew

I think I just heard it, actually. Was it in "A Promise?" Regardless, that is my favorite song in the album.
AVEN - 4/22/2012, 5:48 PM
@essepostal: "thanks bud:)"

You're welcome bro :)
Benjamitesandwich - 4/22/2012, 5:50 PM
Assemble definitely has a lot from the Captain America score hiding in there.
clogan - 4/22/2012, 5:50 PM
People should shut the [frick] up. Silvestri is a hardworking man, and the themes are pretty memorable.

Awesome score. I'll smirk at you all when this gets an award nomination.

As a musician myself, with a family of film scorers, I can safely say that this score is one of the best ones I've heard in a while.

And stop giving the examples of Hans Zimmer's shit, many people in the industry knows that he is a cheater.

brewtownpsych - 4/22/2012, 5:52 PM
i will try and find the other one with a track reference, it may be the first x-men (those films all had great scores by the way)
thewonderer - 4/22/2012, 5:52 PM
@Benjamite

Listen to something like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohuq3ks35RA

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0kGAz6HYM8

or even this TV theme:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KYp4nUAqEs&list=FLS_Qw5B9VCAV7w8apjIYejw&index=34&feature=plpp_video

This album has nothing that even compares

thewonderer - 4/22/2012, 5:53 PM
lol wow how is Hans Zimmer a cheater? Jealous marvel turd
antonio - 4/22/2012, 5:58 PM
How is Hans Zimmer a cheater? If any composer in Holllywood is a cheater, it's Tyler Bates.
thewonderer - 4/22/2012, 6:00 PM
wow lol Chill out there Clogan, this is FAR from the best there is by even modern standards
TinyBirdcage - 4/22/2012, 6:05 PM
Is this Jurassic park?
Benjamitesandwich - 4/22/2012, 6:10 PM
@TheWonderer

I don't think you understand music, bud. Hans Zimmer is a cheat. Don't get me wrong, he has had some great stuff, but a majority of it is rehashed and remixed.

Silvestri is a composer of emotion. If you think a score is good because it sounds cool, then you're wrong. A composer's goal is to create emotion we would not feel otherwise. And Silvestri understands that.

I have been working and studying music for years. I play piano, alto sax, guitar, harmonica, banjo, french horn, and many more instruments. I am a pianist in a jazz band (that takes a lot of knowledge of music theory, by-the-way). So, I don't want you telling me I know nothing about music . . . just to play it safe.
thewonderer - 4/22/2012, 6:17 PM
@Benjamite

Please direct me to the remixed or rehashed you speak of. I know he takes samples and is INFLUENCED by 1940s french music or whatnot.

lol emotion, that is the most bland music I've ever heard. Silvestri clearly DOESN'T. Now Time by Hans Zimmer, X-men First Class themes, Kung Fu Panda by Hans, all that DOES.

Thats good for you. If you think this is good music, then all those years clearly tought you nothing and you clearly know zip about music. I'm a monkey flying on mars right now.

Silvestri obviously fails here
clogan - 4/22/2012, 6:19 PM
@TheWonderer and @Antonio

What @Benjamitesandwich said.

A fine majority of Hans Zimmer's 'work' isn't exactly -his-.

Coming from a musician background myself, I know quite a lot about this. He has a team, a [frick]ing company that he uses for film scores. 90% percent of the work is done by people who AREN'T him. He pays these people to work under him. However, in the end, as the credits roll you see 'Music by HANS ZIMMER'

Henry Jackman was the lead music arranger for The Dark Knight. He then took on X-Men First Class by himself and gave us a great score.

Steve Jablonsky another talented composer Hans Zimmer used for many projects, who then took on the Transformers series.

Klaus Badelt was one of the people who worked with him in PotC. After suffering a fallout with Hans Zimmer, he founded his own company...

The list goes on, gentlemen... Harry Gregson-Williams etc. I can give you many names who did Hans Zimmer's stuff for him.

clogan - 4/22/2012, 6:21 PM
Thusly, stop looking at shit with prejudice. (:
Benjamitesandwich - 4/22/2012, 6:28 PM
@Wonderer

Listen to the Forrest Gump soundtrack, you'll find yourself mistaken. Tracks like Time are good, yes, but it is far too repetitive. Zimmer doesn't write smart music.

Again, a composer's goal is not to make something that sounds cool. Music is about heart, not head. Fantastic scores like The Punisher, Gettysburg, Saving Private Ryan, and Schindler's List linger because people like you judge a score based on it's "cool" factor and only listen to the songs pleasing to the ear and not the songs that cause you to feel deep emotion. Sometimes, scores accomplish both, such as the Starship Troopers theme and Avengers.

Silvestri has succeeded.
jessepostal - 4/22/2012, 6:29 PM
The great thing about music is everyone hears something different. i love the borrowed elements of each character from there own movies in certain songs,esp the cap moments. I loved what silvestri did with the cap ost and now i love this as well.
