This is a good move. It will give it time to make money before Catching Fire takes over the box office.

Might I add that Independence Day is being re-released in 3D on 7/3/13 with the Lone Ranger.

keep pushing that Lone Ranger movie back further. It will be silly until it becomes Deppless

Thor should've been November 1st or October 25th, just before Halloween to get better Thor costume sales silly!

Once again WB is caught sleeping when they failed to move Man of Steel into a prime
forth of July release window to take advantage of FOX's move.

They should at least switch it with Pacific Rim from June 14th to July 12th 2013.

The only CBM's WB is willing to release in July seem to be ones with Batman
(TDK and TDKR) while releasing the rest ( Batman Begins,Superman Returns,Jonah Hex,Green Lantern and Man of Steel) in June, sandwiched between so many other releases.

Maybe Warner Bros. will get some sense and move The Hangover 3 to that date instead of having it open the same weekend as Fast & Furious 6.

Having the extra room before that Hunger Games sequel is a good move, but if Thor 2 is any good it'll play through the holidays.

On a side note, today is the last day that "The Dark Knight" holds the domestic box office championship among superhero films. Tomorrow, "The Avengers" will take the crown.
WarnerBrother
WarnerBrother - 5/31/2012, 2:33 PM
With other studios getting the jump on prime release dates for 2014,it yet again appears that WB will be stuck releasing it's single CBM (seems like it will be LOBO) in June so it will be smothered.

At least Superman or Batman (when Batman Begins came out) are big enough characters to be noticed, but the rest just get lost in June.

I really wanted them to release CA:TFA on July 4th, they instead pushed it to the 22nd, Cap 2 must be on July 4th dammit! lol.

They are just giving them both room to breathe at the box office. So they don't steal each others ticket sales.

@soforizo

I'm sure your right,MOS seems to be awesome.I just feel a little frustrated that WB doesn't seem willing to give Superman( an existing franchise) a more prime release date then Pacific Rim.

For years WB has saved July for its biggest tent pole film.
(Harry Potter,TDK.Inception,TDKR)

Why doesn't Superman get that prime spot?

Excellent.

I posted the following on April 7th (in a "Hunger Games" article). I for one am quite glad.

I was looking at the list of next year's films, and THOR 2 comes out one week before CATCHING FIRE. For those of you who aren't familiar with that title, that's the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy.

THOR 2 is going to be crushed by CATCHING FIRE in its second week. In looking at September and October releases, there's almost nothing of note.

Thus, it's in my professional opinion (i.e., my completely subjective take on things) that THOR 2 must have its release date changed.

My point is that THOR would have much more of an impact if it was the only big budget genre movie opening at a particular time (with no major "genre" competition opening on either side of its release date for at least a couple of weeks). With CATCHING FIRE opening one week after THOR 2, THOR 2 will most likely be utterly trounced and forgotten after only one week at the box office.

I wouldn't put much faith in a built in audience, to be honest. THOR didn't do that great in the States.

If September and October are blockbuster free (not sure if they are), then why NOT move THOR 2 to one of those months? Or move it two weeks earlier than its current release date, so that it has three weeks before it gets absolutely crushed by CATCHING FIRE.

@Stormbreaker Thor 2 isn't exactly the Avengers. Nobody will give a damn past week 2 for Thor, so the release date is fine.

"Thor 2 isn't exactly the Avengers. Nobody will give a damn past week 2 for Thor, so the release date is fine."

@Silmane,

Maybe so, but having two weeks instead of only one week before "Catching Fire" opens is in all likelihood better for THOR 2's box office.

Well given the impact The Avengers had, I wouldn't be so fast to jump to that assumption.

I hope Marvel does this from now on. We get 1 film inn te summer then 1 in the fall making the wait until the next batch of films more bearable (probably why they scheduled Thor so far after)
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 6/1/2012, 1:05 PM
The only negative about the first Thor is the same problem i had with Iron Man 2 and that's that the big battle scenes ended way to quickly. Seeing as Thor BETTER have his powers the whole time this time he better kick some serious ass.
