It appears the infamous terrorist organization A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics), from the Marvel Comics Universe, will finally have a role in Marvel's cinematic universe through the next much-anticipated installment, Shane Black's Iron Man 3. Spotted on the set today, via Tumblr's HannibalDelarge, the "A.I.M" signage was among props installed to the set in Cary, North Carolina at Epic Games Studios. Check out the photo below!

UPDATE: On Location Vacation has more photos and the scoop on what today's filming consisted of.

"One of our readers, A. K. Trujillo, told us, “The crowd was told to be quiet when shots were filmed outside, or else they would heighten security and ban spectators from watching. [There were] no big action scenes. All actors were in business suits or security uniforms. The director was heard yelling, “Action”, “Turn, Turn, Turn, Turn” and “Cut”.” Though the photos were taken from a distance, you can see a few extras in uniform and a decorated tree that indicates the scene is set during the holidays.

UPDATE #2: Reel Movie Nation has more photos!

In the comics, according to Marvel, A.I.M. is an organization of brilliant scientists and their hirelings dedicated to the acquisition of power and the overthrow of all government by technological means. A.I.M. was organized during World War II as the scientific research division of the subversive military organization Hydra. It supplied hardware and weapons to governmental and quasi-governmental agencies. Some time after this Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. exposed A.I.M. to be a subversive organization. A.I.M.’s activities have been covert since.

A.I.M. also created M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing), an artificially mutated human being with an enormous head and a stunted body possessing superhuman intelligence and the ability to generate mental energy bolts and forcefields. How will all this fit into the MCU? What do you think?

Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.

Viltrumite - 6/4/2012, 7:29 PM
I keep getting reminded, over and over again, how truly fantastic it is to see the Marvel Universe brought to life in these films, every single time I see a new photo, trailer, or movie.

jessepostal - 6/4/2012, 7:37 PM

SageMode - 6/4/2012, 7:39 PM
Please, for the sake of all humanity, DO....NOT......HAVE.......M.O.D.O.K.......IN.....A.......MOVIE...!!!!!!!

He's one of the lamest characters ever.
ClaireLannister2016 - 6/4/2012, 7:42 PM
Ok....who isn't in this film? Its like they're shoving in as much villains as they can. IDK if thats a good thing
Vision91 - 6/4/2012, 7:49 PM
That'd be cool if this connected to antman and had him fighting aim and modok but like modok was a result of the extremist virus mixed with an artificial organism
himynameisnik - 6/4/2012, 7:51 PM
Please please please don't ever have MODOK! I like that AIM is in this but i mean... Firepower, Iron Patriot/Coldbood, possibly Mandarin, Aldrich Killian, now Aim... It's just a lot really. Unless Killian is working for AIM and they develop the Extremis virus?
cashsteele - 6/4/2012, 7:54 PM
Where are the Daniel Bryan yes chants(GIFs) when you need them...
NeoBaggins - 6/4/2012, 7:56 PM
Oh Shit!? Eventually....

marvel72 - 6/4/2012, 7:56 PM
f*ckin hell,this movie shaping up nicely what with all these villains.

would be sweet to see some a.i.m vs s.h.i.e.l.d action.
SuspenseSmith - 6/4/2012, 7:57 PM
If they do MODOK in a film, it better not look anything like that up there^^^
MedinasWorks - 6/4/2012, 7:57 PM
SuspenseSmith - 6/4/2012, 7:58 PM
I still think MODOK is the most comical piece of shit ever to be drawn on a page.
ScarSpeedster - 6/4/2012, 7:59 PM
AIM! thats so damn awesome i can't stand. It i continue to be amazed that what i see in comics actually comes to life in marvel films! That said never ever do MODOK. One he is super lame. second he will fail in whatever movie he is in
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/4/2012, 8:06 PM
I was just watching the newest Australian episodes of the Avengers:EMH cartoon today and A.I.M. was featured in the episodes.This is great news.I hope that if they are a big part of IM3 that Marvel updates their henchmans suits to look good onscreen.MARVEL STUDIOS is WINNING right now!Where's the Tiger's Blood and Goddesses.It's time to party!
Ghostt - 6/4/2012, 8:06 PM
so much footage so soon! damn good time to be a comic book fanboy.
GiantNerd0720 - 6/4/2012, 8:09 PM
Just say no to Modok. Please, no Modok.

Sweet news nonetheless.
Tainted87 - 6/4/2012, 8:10 PM
Wow, good eyes, DCMarvelFreshman!

Really hope MODOK is nothing more than an AI construct like Jarvis though. He can have a face, even a mobile platform, but he cannot in any way, be organic.

@Preacherfanatic7
...
Movies do not suffer from having too many characters. They suffer because the writers/producers/directors do not know how to write THOSE characters. Characters are relays into a story. They drive the story. Did Lord of the Rings suffer from having a fellowship consisting of four hobbits, a wizard, two men, an elven prince, and a dwarf?

No, characters create an atmosphere.
Shadow101 - 6/4/2012, 8:10 PM
Modok is gonna look so weird on live action. Let's see what phase 2 takes us
GiantNerd0720 - 6/4/2012, 8:10 PM
@Durf Diddo. Lol.
Ghostfire - 6/4/2012, 8:11 PM
Oh hell yeah! Awesome news! About time A.I.M. made their live action debut.

@Durf & Giantnerd
What up fellas!
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/4/2012, 8:11 PM
I think MODOK could work in the MCU.
TheShakeBake - 6/4/2012, 8:11 PM
@Preacherfanatic7 I agree completely, They should open with Iron Man easily beating a minor villain, just like the old batman moves did, hell i think this would work out better to introduce some of Spider-man's lesser known villains on screen.
NextHero08 - 6/4/2012, 8:12 PM
Please don't have those guys in those funky yellow jumpsuits, I will die laughing
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/4/2012, 8:12 PM
@Durf Charlie Sheen is the man!
GiantNerd0720 - 6/4/2012, 8:13 PM
@Gaston Good point, just the thought of Modok worries me though.

Tony would definitely have done funny shit to say about him though.
95 - 6/4/2012, 8:13 PM
AIM is coming to Captain America 2! Perhaps they've recovered Chitauri tech? Or maybe they helped with building Iron Patriot? Oh! Maybe they are hired to find the "ten rings"?
TheShakeBake - 6/4/2012, 8:14 PM
Or an easy easter egg would be see AIM scientists in those yellow suits for a science experiment but not as actual thugs that fight Iron Man haha
ThePowerCosmic - 6/4/2012, 8:14 PM
Didn't the Ultimate version A.I.M build a version of the Cosmic Cube...or I mean the Tesseract in the comics? I wonder If that will come into play at all.

It seems like with all these villains there is really no room for M.O.D.O.K. But I kind of like that real-life looking one a few posts up! I feel most of these villains will have smaller parts in the film. Think about it with Iron Man and War Machine it will probably take a whole team or organization to present a challenge to Iron man....he took out a whole Alien mothership for heaven's sake!
Tainted87 - 6/4/2012, 8:16 PM
@TheShakeBake
That sounds great.
95 - 6/4/2012, 8:17 PM
@Gaston

Marvel likes to prove us wrong. And that's what makes their projects fun for me now.

@Tainted87

Exactly (in regards to your response about "too many characters").
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/4/2012, 8:18 PM
@Gaston I agree.Marvel has been very successful at making their characters work onscreen.In Marvel I Trust!
whatevillurks - 6/4/2012, 8:21 PM
Interesting. I thought that the scientists helping out Loki in the Avengers probably worked for AIM. I'm curious what they will put in Cap 2. Reborn HYDRA? Sleeper robots?
eleven59 - 6/4/2012, 8:26 PM
Yeah I think modok would simply be an AI like Jarvis and maybe downloaded into a iron man suit or something like that, perhaps something ultron could be based on

but don't think they'll go into the fat short modok..

Ghostfire - 6/4/2012, 8:27 PM
@Durf
Modok does sound hard to bring to a live action film, but Marvel studios hasn't let us down yet, so no need to worry.
superotherside - 6/4/2012, 8:27 PM
Awesome. I honestly think you could do M.O.D.O.K. on screen. You'd just have to be very careful to do him creepy and never silly or dumb. But A.I.M doesn't necessarily need M.O.D.O.K. ATM. They could save to introduce him in future movies. :D

In Marvel I Trust!
nowtheresaBATman - 6/4/2012, 8:28 PM
@gaston My thoughts exactly, Dinklage for M.O.D.O.K. -Awesome!

However Peter was born to play Tyrion though :)
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/4/2012, 8:29 PM
@whatevillurks I thought that they were referring to Hydra in that scene.That probably was an nod to A.I.M. right there.
GiantNerd0720 - 6/4/2012, 8:30 PM
@ghost Not much man. Definitely not drinking beer. The other night was brutal.. Lol
SuspenseSmith - 6/4/2012, 8:32 PM
I'm saying the look of MODOK sucks. Just like they had to alter Thor's look drastically to make it work. Thor originally looked like some kind of bizarre Fabio. Also, his "thee art thou hath" stuff was thrown out the window too. Plus, the Donald Blake thing was super down played to make it work and his powers were toned down a bit.

For MODOK, it'll take as much, if not more complete overhaul tweeking to get him to work. Don't expect a giant [frick]ing head with tiny little legs floating around.
SuspenseSmith - 6/4/2012, 8:33 PM
Don't start whining if cinema M.O.D.O.K looks almost nothing like his comic version.
MCUFan1 - 6/4/2012, 8:33 PM
Come on guys its the marvel cinematic universe everything is realism so modok would most likely be a robot or cyborg & @ Supes17 iron man wasn't bad it was not enough action
GiantNerd0720 - 6/4/2012, 8:34 PM
Suspense@ Lol.
GiantNerd0720 - 6/4/2012, 8:37 PM
@Durf Oh my [frick]ing god were my exact words when I looked at that. [frick]ing hilarious.
toekneemango - 6/4/2012, 8:38 PM
I'd love to see them just tease AIM in this and then use them as the primary villains (with Dinklage as MODOK, naturally) for the Ant Man film.
ThePowerCosmic - 6/4/2012, 8:38 PM
Look what they did with Arnim Zola. Not like the comic, but worked very realistically and was still a great character in the film.
GiantNerd0720 - 6/4/2012, 8:39 PM
@durf That's a keeper. My buddies will get a kick out of that.
