Jessica Biel Explains Why She Exited THE WOLVERINE

Her reason being a typical one, actress Jessica Biel recently explained why she had to decline Fox's offer to portray Viper in The Wolverine sequel, while doing press for Total Recall!

As previously reported, Fox's anticipated sequel The Wolverine began production today in New South Wales, Australia, despite the supposed leading female role yet to be cast. And while Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova is rumored to play Viper, Total Recall actress Jessica Biel was in-talks for the role prior. Having to drop the role, evidently, Biel recently explained to Collider the typical reason why she had to do so.

UPDATE: In a separate interview with Crave Online, Jessica Biel shared what interested her about the Viper role.

"That particular character was really cool. She was this vivacious woman who is thrilled about her own immortality, and it was interesting, that kind of persona, I thought, for a quote-unquote “villain” character. And I was really interested in the director, so it was worth the conversation."

Starring Hugh Jackman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee and Svetlana Khodchenkova, directed by James Mangold, The Wolverine is scheduled to be released on July 26, 2013.

Just1Superguy

why would you be excited for iron ma n3 is beyond me lol

iron man 2 was god awful and we have seen iron man 3 times as a lead

wolverine sounds more interesting than iron man 3 and thor 2

not to mention it has a better director and has a script by the guy who wrote usual suspects
halik - 7/30/2012, 4:01 PM
She says didn't they already make TMNT though? Didn't they already make Total Recall? Come on.
Nick56 - 7/30/2012, 4:02 PM
Im looking forward to The Wolverine way more than Thor 2 and just a bit more than Iron Man 3
RamonSuarez - 7/30/2012, 4:05 PM
LOL.

After the PURE SHIT that was Wolverine: Origins some of you have the nerve to crap on Iron Man 3 for following Iron Man 2 while stating that Wolverine will be awesome? LOL.

Jackman is an overrated hack with no film career outside of exploiting one of the most badass comic mythologies of all time.
novaprime - 7/30/2012, 4:13 PM
My most Anticipated movies Are Thor 2, Man of Steel...iman 3 & wolverine, i hope he wears a Mask
AtomicChipmunk - 7/30/2012, 4:13 PM
Post some pics.
RamonSuarez - 7/30/2012, 4:14 PM
The fact they are trying to hire a hack actress like Jessica Biel tells me all I need to know about the decision making process for this film.

PaulRom - 7/30/2012, 4:14 PM
I'm excited for The Wolverine. Not as much as the rest of next year's CBMs, but I'm looking forward to it.
Urban8er - 7/30/2012, 4:16 PM
Hahahaha wow. You guys actually think this will be a good movie? No way!! And comparing it to iron man 3 and Thor 2??!? This is my LEAST anticipated movie for next year.
BattlinMurdock - 7/30/2012, 4:19 PM
James Mangold and Shane Black are no dummies.

These movies are in good hands.

JB - "I saw the first one and decided I like having a career."
DeMoNaSsDiZ - 7/30/2012, 4:28 PM
The hype will get everyone excited. The movie will fail as hard as all of FOX's CBM's. Half of the fans are the rinse and repeat types. "I'm so mad the first one sucked so hard! They raped the origins of my favorite characters! It doesn't flow with the other films! Oh they're making a sequel??? It's gonna be AMAZING!" Give me a break. Give the rights back to Marvel.

This is the best story wolverine has that has been untold on the big screen. Hopefully it will have an ultimate ending. ;)
Maybe even spiderman's sequel will have some avenging to be done.
marvel72 - 7/30/2012, 4:28 PM
jessica biel said ages ago that after blade trinity she never wanted to do another comic book movie,i think it was around the time when the wonder woman role came up.
AtomicChipmunk - 7/30/2012, 4:29 PM
Someone posts a Biel bomb.
marvel72 - 7/30/2012, 4:30 PM

thank god that this "actress" declined. cant wair for wolverine
Cross - 7/30/2012, 4:33 PM
3:10 to yuma is his best.
CherryBomb - 7/30/2012, 4:36 PM
Wasn't Svetlana Khodchenkova already confirmed for the role?

I do like Jessica Biel, she doesn't give up no matter how many crappy movies she's in.
I would've really liked her to be Viper.
nightcrawler42 - 7/30/2012, 4:47 PM
@RamonSuarez

So that Broadway career, many successful films outside of comics, and Australian theatre means nothing? Good to know.
RorMachine - 7/30/2012, 4:49 PM
Biel is good when she wants to be, check out her new movie The Tall Man..film itself is just average but she's great in it.

As for The Wolverine..we'll see. Mangold is good, but I'm still so damn disappointed that Aronofsky passed on it. Script is apparently top notch..I'll be cautiously optimistic.
RandyBobandy - 7/30/2012, 4:52 PM
Atomic Chipmunk, there is this thing called google...if you want to see pictures of Jessica Biel, [frick]ing go use it you goddamn moron. Does your mother dress you in the morning? Because it seems you are incapable of doing anything for yourself.
Greengo - 7/30/2012, 4:54 PM
Aronofsky passed on Batman too and we got something awesome...

Greengo - 7/30/2012, 4:55 PM
That said I do want to see an Aronofsky CBM and I think we will some day. I hope.

Bigred20 - 7/30/2012, 4:57 PM
Shes still pouting that she wasn't casted as Catwoman in TDKR
RamonSuarez - 7/30/2012, 4:57 PM
@nightcrawler42

Really? You are pointing out an Australian soap opera career as proof of great acting chops? Please just stop right now.

And what successful films has he made? Van Helsing? Kate and Leopold? The only thing I can think of worth a damn was the Prestige.
DoomXfactor - 7/30/2012, 5:00 PM
Im going in with low expectations. Hopefully this isnt another piece of shit
tweeeeenkies3 - 7/30/2012, 5:02 PM
I could see her in a Witchblade movie, if they ever make it! She'd be a fantastic Sara Pezzini! Good age, proper looks, height, and her voice just seems fitting!

I'd like to see her take on a superhero role. I am glad it wasn't for FOX though!

@RamonSuarez you are sadly mistaken my friend
The Prestige - best nolan film besides batman
Real Steel - plays a total dick head
happy feet - come on
Swordfish - his breakout role
The Fountain - epic
vexfly - 7/30/2012, 6:03 PM
She's lying about her opinion of TMNT and its pretty obvious
SamHell - 7/30/2012, 6:54 PM
not really diggin her new look
marvel72 - 7/30/2012, 6:59 PM
@ magic8

well at least she isn't stupid then, who wouldn't audition for the dark knight rises.

after the critical acclaim the first two movies you'd be a fool not to audition for the role.
Scion - 7/30/2012, 7:00 PM
Man that is one mighty fine pooper!
mgeoff88 - 7/30/2012, 7:01 PM
I don't blame her for saying no to comic book movies after Blade Trinity. That movie was hilariously bad.

Thankfully CBMs have come a long way since then. And scheduling conflicts is a good reason.

Wow... she's a Ninja Turtles fan... Jessica, run away with me. ;P

@CherryBomb Svetlana has been casted as Viper. If Jessica Biel didn't have scheduling conflicts, she would've been cast for sure.

I think things worked out for the best. I really like Jessica Biel, but I think Svetlana Khodchenkova is a better fit for Madame Viper:

It's really hard to find pictures of her with dark hair.
astromerc - 7/30/2012, 7:27 PM
She exited the movie to do press!?! You dont get paid for press you do get paid for a movie...1+1=2 She smelled the stink of a bad movie!!! She has smelled it before Blade3..LOL this movie will suck, hahahahaha .

Fox give the rights back your like a baby with a gun.
StormLoganSummers - 7/30/2012, 7:33 PM
"Quote-unquote" doesn't make any goddamn sense. When are people going to figure that out and stop using it?
LAXtremest - 7/30/2012, 7:43 PM
I did not know she auditioned for DKR. Thank God she didn't get it. Hathaway was the best part of that movie in my opinion.
thewolfx - 7/30/2012, 9:37 PM
all hugh haters need to die
Ryguy88 - 7/30/2012, 9:42 PM
Marvel72, he also did Walk the Line. He's a solid director, when he gets a good script he delivers...hopefully its a good script.

Thor, Iron Man, Superman and Wolverine are all coming off disappointing movies so hopefully all 4 can have a nice rebound in 2013.
pepe - 7/30/2012, 10:03 PM
And now Wolverine is rising too?
Battabing - 7/30/2012, 10:24 PM
