Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012. In addition to "Marvel's The Avengers," Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including "Iron Man 3" on May 3, 2013!; & “Thor 2” on November 8, 2013.

marvel72 - 8/2/2012, 4:09 PM
i'm calling it now(actually i've said it before)thanos being the villain in the guardians of the galaxy.
toco89 - 8/2/2012, 4:14 PM
I can't believe he's still working with him after he butchered his character on Angel. But I guess now that whedon is a success it's ok. Everybody's gotta eat.

@RR51

LOL that scene did have a power rangers vibe.
ATrueHero1987 - 8/2/2012, 4:26 PM
The Other: "You will have your war, Asgardian. If you fail, if the Tesseract is kept from us, there will be no realm, no barren moon, no crevice where he can't find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something as sweet as pain."
jimoakley666 - 8/2/2012, 4:29 PM
So. Does anyone think 'The Other' is an existing Marvel character reinterpreted or just a movie creation? A lot of people said maybe Annihilus but I'm not convinced myself.
golden123 - 8/2/2012, 4:34 PM
@marvel72: I think, establishing Thanos as a character is the whole reason why Guardians of the Galaxy has been green lit. Loki was established, before The Avengers, in Thor. Marvel wants to recreate the success of the first Avengers film with the second Avengers film.
jimoakley666 - 8/2/2012, 4:36 PM
Oh, another one I read is that The Other may be Chthon. Apparently, similar look and in his first comic appearance he was also referred to as "The Other".
JackDexx - 8/2/2012, 4:39 PM
Holy shit that was sandy rivers?
TayDee - 8/2/2012, 4:44 PM

This guy's hood, blue skin and overall design look familiar?

Anyone? ;P
DCMarvelFreshman - 8/2/2012, 4:51 PM
@TayDee Pretty much. LR first revealed GOTG as the 2nd 2014 MS film, and included that Thanos was in it.

ThePowerCosmic - 8/2/2012, 6:09 PM
So I guess any cosmic CBM is going to look like Power Rangers. Screw you guys!

Because we all know Power Rangers had amazing actors and the best CGI effects in the business.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 8/2/2012, 6:22 PM
I never did watch Buffy but I do watch reruns of Angel on TNT in the morning while I get ready for work.Angel was and is a very good show.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 8/2/2012, 6:25 PM
BTW,If anybody says the Thanos end credits scene reminds them of Power Rangers are clearly hating. That scene was EPIC!!!!
sexfoodcomics - 8/2/2012, 6:26 PM
I agree Thanos is totally gonna be the Villian in GOTG or Annihulius with Thanos as the puppeteer again.
sexfoodcomics - 8/2/2012, 6:28 PM
Thanos kinda looks like Armold. Hahah
Sanderman - 8/2/2012, 6:37 PM
The Other was the only part of the Avengers that made me cringe. I don't know it was the guys acting or something but it just came off as super cheesy to me
kisama - 8/2/2012, 6:43 PM
does anyone have a clear image of thanos from the movie? dear god it is impossible to find one.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/2/2012, 6:44 PM
I am not saying that scene was bad, I just noticed it when the pic was posted.

@ golden123

most definetly,i think they may even do something like a infinity gauntlet movie where the avengers & the guardians of the galaxy take on thanos.
ATrueHero1987 - 8/2/2012, 7:44 PM
To Take down Thanos, The Avengers are going to need more help: Black Panther, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Blade. YES, Blade.lol
RamonSuarez - 8/2/2012, 7:50 PM
LOL. I love his imitation of Whedon.
Ghostt - 8/2/2012, 8:01 PM
Loved Avengers, but could not get over the Power Rangers thing with The Other and the negative zone. biggest problem with the movie....except for when all the Chitauri simultaneously ceased to function. that was a cop out.
thanos83 - 8/2/2012, 8:17 PM
shut up about the negative zone stuff being "cheesey"..jease..u guys cry about everything..i and many other longtime marvel fans loved that stuff in avengers

it looked fine
RacerREX - 8/2/2012, 8:18 PM
@ Ghostt- You mean like in "The Phantom Menace"? At least they didn't have Jar Jar Binks in the Avengers. Could you imagine the banter with RDJ if they did! Me-sa gonna hava swarma!!!
IgnurRant - 8/2/2012, 9:22 PM
Of course he must return. Loki business with him isnt finished. Loki planned to lose to the Avenger's, return to Asgard and steal the Infinity Gauntlet.

You dont really think Loki was a simple minded pawn and that the Chitauri, the most feared army of the Universe, were really fighting at peak strength. It was all a ploy.

If not, Loki has been resigned to a simpled minded pawn and the Chitauri are the dumbest invading army in the known galaxy with no sense of strategy.
o6untouchable - 8/2/2012, 11:54 PM
Holy shit, that was Alexis Denisof? I didn't even realise. :|

Part of me hopes that the Chitauri don't return. I loved (LOOOOOVED) the Avengers, and I understand why they needed to fight a big threat, but in retrospect I think the Chitauri were a bit *too* big, and a bit too easily defeated. A slightly more modest alien threat that didn't just all drop dead once Iron Man turned off the wifi might have worked better. If the Chitauri are the only villains that come back, they're going to have to come back bigger... and that might start getting silly.

HOWEVER, if the Chitauri were to come back as part of something larger (a rag-tag handful of survivors acting as Thanos' personal guard alongside other enemies, trying to prove themselves after having their fearsome reputation destroyed by a group of puny humans), that might work.

I think what Avengers 2 needs is villains with faces, though. There are going to be more Avengers, so we need more characters where the audience will give a damn if they get beaten. In action movies, the true victory is when the evil mastermind is beaten, not when the hero(es) have taken down the army of generic footsoldiers.
norseman79 - 8/3/2012, 1:52 AM
Really hope we get to see Ultron at some point in addition to Thanos.
DevilHulk666 - 8/3/2012, 1:55 AM
Red skull will be the villain in Avengers 2, maybe with help from someone else?
AgentDelta - 8/3/2012, 1:58 AM
@ClarkFarley2012

BlackSun77 - 8/3/2012, 2:42 AM
Is it me, or does he look like the Ronan the Accuser???????
CorndogBurglar - 8/3/2012, 3:31 AM
Ronan? Thats the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

Earz, Intruder is right man, you know better than that.

Everyone else that mentioned Ronan, pick up a goddamn comic, just once, before making idiotic statements like that.
BlackSun77 - 8/3/2012, 3:53 AM
Wasn't the ultimate version of Ronan, Thanos' son, not to mention that there is (somewhat) a resemblance. Just asking.
