Now that we're in August, the month of filming's commencement, more details surrounding the production of Marvel's anticipated Thor followup, Thor: The Dark World, are expected to unveil. And now another potential shooting location for the Alan Taylor-helmed installment has surfaced.

According to "reliable sources" of an Icelandic site, Svarthofdi, principal photography for Thor: The Dark World is set to take place partly in the Nordic European island country of Iceland.

Beyond relating to Norse mythology, Iceland is familiar to director Alan Taylor, considering he has filmed portions of Game of Thrones in the country (pictured below). And according to leading star Chris Hemsworth, Taylor's ultimate approach to the sequel is having less green-screen and more on-location surroundings.

And other tentpole films that have filmed there include Prometheus, Batman Begins, and most recently, Oblivion and Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah among others. However, until verification, take the info lightly as primary filming for Thor: The Dark World will take place in vast areas of England. What do you think?

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard and Ray Stevenson. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. With a screenplay by Robert Rodat,“Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

Groovy. My one complaint about the first movie was that the flash back scene in Norway looked WAY too fake.

Iceland has many volcanoes, mountains and geysers. Perfect place for the introduction of Surtur at the end.

I am so pumped for Thor 2... I really think this is the movie that'll blow people away next year as far as CBMs go.
Nomis1800 - 8/3/2012, 9:01 AM
NICE!!! Although, I'm not looking as much forward to Thor2 as to MOS for example, I really dig it that Taylor wants to shoot more on location and less green screen. That can pay off really well.

Just mentioned on Twitter that in some form or way, Man Of Steel, The Wolverine, Iron Man 3, and now possibly Thor 2 will feature our bearded heroes in distant snow-covered lands. I hope they're nothing alike.

Yay cant wait. Iceland rules.

Has anyone seen Alan Taylor´s credit list. That dude has directed lots of tv-series episodes on his career beside Game of Thrones.
Oz, Homicide, Carnivale, Rome, Sopranos, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Deadwood etc.

Sounds cool! Pun intended. ;P Can't wait for a trailer!

This is going to be alot like LOTR (except with more action and less boring) with a Thunder god as the main actor.

Shit is looking good. Real good. Filming in iceland? Nice.

this sounds good alan taylor is gonna knock this outta the park! Ken B. did a great job setting Thor up but I think Taylor is gonna give us a more grounded approach to Thor. I cant wait!
PapaII - 8/3/2012, 10:19 AM
Now we're talking! This director knows what he's doing, his vision for Thor is being better than the previous one so far.
Valandil - 8/3/2012, 10:20 AM
Oh, c'mon... since the first one used green-screen this totally needs it!
I hope thor II doesn't look too different.
OdinsBeard - 8/3/2012, 10:45 AM

Awesome move by Taylor. More on location shooting and less green screen. I had a problem with some of the CGI in the first film.
StarSpangledBruce - 8/3/2012, 10:57 AM
What foul beasts will Thor battle against this time?
