More From Alexis Denisof On Nabbing “The Other” Role In THE AVENGERS; Talks Prosthetics

In yet another interview, the actor behind Marvel's The Avengers Chitauri leader, The Other, Alexis Denisof now dishes on wearing prosthetics and more. Check it out after the jump!

While speaking with MTV News, actor Alexis Denisof once again elaborated on his role in Marvel's The Avengers movie. Credited as “The Other,” leader of the Chitauri, Denisof recalled going through hours of prosthetics and precisely how longtime friend & collaborator Joss Whedon unusually approached him for the role.

“Normally if something is on [Joss Whedon's] mind he’ll call me about it. And of course I’m always excited. It wouldn’t matter what he was doing, I would want to be part of it.” Recalling how different things were this time, “I received from my agent a single page with some lines that made absolutely no sense to me, and a character called Man #2 (AKA Thanos played by Damion Poitier),” he continues. “And I was like, ‘What the eff is this?’ They sent all this legal stuff I had to sign about not saying anything to anyone.”

After auditioning and eventually landing the part, “We had to cast all these parts of my body that were going to be wearing pieces of formed prosthetic – my arms, my chest, my face,” he added. “Once I put in [the special set of teeth] I had a very distinct lisp and I didn’t think that was how he should sound, so I had to practice with those for quite a few months to get to where I could even talk.”

Taking up to six hours to apply the prosthetics and all “The Other” finishing touches, Denisof says “I couldn’t see a thing. Pretty hard to move, pretty hard to go to the bathroom – a lot of things you don’t think about until you’re all stitched up into a costume like that.” Concluding that it was all worth it in the end, he said “Even when I was shooting it I was excited. To see that huge stage and to be in that place with my dear friend Joss and watch him doing what I know so well he can do on that scale… I was thrilled to be part of it. And then to see it – it blew me away.”

MTV News notes that Alexis Denisof is still contracted to keep quiet about the future of “The Other,” evidently confirming the Chitauri leader will return somewhere throughout Phase Two of Marvel's cinematic universe.
And because he's linked to Thanos, who's guaranteed a role in Guardians of the Galaxy, that may be where he'll also be seen next. Perhaps the aftermath of he and Loki's broken deal will carry over in Thor: The Dark World. However, Marvel's The Avengers sequel is where we'll likely see The Other again. What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to "Marvel's The Avengers," Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including "Iron Man 3" on May 3, 2013!; & “Thor 2” on November 8, 2013.

The Other should be in some action scenes by Guardians Of The Galaxy or Avengers 2
DanteSparda - 8/10/2012, 2:10 PM
What BrotherStarkofMABMindz said!
vtopa - 8/10/2012, 2:15 PM
He was great in the role. Very very menacing.
Bane2099 - 8/10/2012, 2:17 PM
Just reveal that he's Chthon and I'll be happy :]
Turtlestrong - 8/10/2012, 2:18 PM
I agree, I hope he's in Gotg with action scenes too.

I think its cool when you can help out friends with stuff like this. I'd go nuts as a comic book fan if I had a director buddy who was doing something like Avengers and my agent was like "read these lines" and they turned out to be Gladiator in a Silver Surfer movie or something.
JerseyJoker - 8/10/2012, 2:18 PM
Its always awesome how Whedon managed to give a boost to his friends.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/10/2012, 2:18 PM
It was so damn dark that I couldn't even see the amount of work they put into it.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/10/2012, 2:19 PM
@BrotherStarkofMABMindz - I agree, dude. I believe that we will see "The Other" soon, in other Marvel movies. Phase 2 FTW!! :)

And then......

:)
sKeemAn - 8/10/2012, 2:20 PM
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE ACTUAL IDENTITY OF "THE OTHER"??
CaptainObvious - 8/10/2012, 2:26 PM
@sKeemAn- No.
DetBullock - 8/10/2012, 2:30 PM
I would really see him as Hal Jordan.
Bane2099 - 8/10/2012, 2:34 PM
@sKeemAn

Rumor and fan speculation has it that he's Chthon , due to the strong resemblence of both characters, both have an extra finger on their hands{s} and one of Chthon's alias in the comics is "The Other".
calin88 - 8/10/2012, 2:38 PM
@IM53 I love it when people post pics of Rosie Jones
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/10/2012, 2:40 PM

marvelmaniaco - 8/10/2012, 2:48 PM
I want to see more of this character!! Hopefully he will cause some mayhem and go after Loki for failing him! Phase 2 marvel will be bloody amazing cannot wait!!!
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/10/2012, 2:49 PM
@batz - D@mn, Black Friday already? Hell..........

MARVELPSYCHO79 - 8/10/2012, 2:50 PM
@BrotherStarkofMABMindz YES!!!The Other needs to be in some action scenes.He should be a villain in Guardians of the Galaxy.The Other does seem to be powerful.With Joss being involved in Phase 2,you can count on seeing more of The Other.Also,hopefully he gets a real name instead of The Other.
Bane2099 - 8/10/2012, 2:55 PM
@dboakley

That would be kool if he was like the Agent Coulson of Phase 2, just like Coulson he can arrive in the aftermath of some films and survey the scene and like Coulson reporting back to Fury, The Other will be reporting back to Thanos.

Imaging if we ever get a scene of Thanos and Fury face to face, two stubborn leaders with egos to match and the dialogue that would happen between them :D
MisterNiceGuy - 8/10/2012, 2:59 PM
look at all the boobs! i think i have a quarter chub... gotta go home and smush the gf
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 8/10/2012, 3:10 PM
I wonder how long before Ghost Rider reverts back to Marvel Studios.There's no way in hell Sony/Columbia Pictures will make another GR movie when GR:SOV flopped at the box office this year.If Marvel is planning on doing an Infinity Gauntlet movie,I would love to see Mephisto in it.Mark Steven Johnson really [frick]ed up Mephisto and Blackheart in that first GR movie.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/10/2012, 3:16 PM
@DanteSparda - I hear ya, man. Same here. Wouldn't be surprised if we did see him make an appearance in Marvel comics alongside with Thanos. This will be interesting, my friend.
DanteSparda - 8/10/2012, 3:16 PM
@TheAmazingSpidey63

Also expect him to appear in comics soon (if he isn't Chthon).

But if he's in fact Chthon, then perhaps he could make the role of Mephisto in the Infinity Gauntlet movie.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/10/2012, 3:32 PM
@batz - Hell, time flies. One minute it's Thursday, then, POOF, you're in Black Friday.

marvel72 - 8/10/2012, 3:34 PM
i believe thanos & the other will be next seen in either thor the dark world or guardians of the galaxy.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/10/2012, 3:39 PM
And yeah, The Other does look like Chthon. 50/50 chance that he may or may not be Chthon.

TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/10/2012, 3:47 PM
@marvel72 - I agree with you on both The Other (or Chthon, I guess) and Thanos making an appearance in Gaurdians of the Galaxy (Thanos will most certainly have a big role in GotG), but what about Thor: The Dark World? An appearance? Maybe for the retrieval of the Gauntlet?

That'll be awesome to see, but as the above picture shows, the Gauntlet has all the required gems for the Inifinity Guantlet. So maybe we won't be getting a "The Inifinty Gauntlet" film, seeing as how all the gems are there. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. We'll see soon enough. :)
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/10/2012, 3:49 PM
@batz - LoL, I hear ya, dude, :)
Fogs - 8/10/2012, 4:15 PM
@Spidey63 - that was on the beginning, before loki stealing the mind gem ;)
marvel72 - 8/10/2012, 4:15 PM
@ batz11
@ TheAmazingSpidey63
@ im53

it could play out like this thanos cameo in thor the dark world(we see our first full look at thanos)& then thanos in action in guardians of the galaxy.
BenderDickCumPatch - 8/10/2012, 4:29 PM
Nice stuff guys
Optimus83 - 8/10/2012, 4:32 PM
¡¡¡Good News!!!. ...¡¡¡for The Other!!!
Luminus - 8/10/2012, 4:43 PM
There's never going to be an Infinity Gauntlet film, because Thanos can't be defeated once in possession of those gems. I just reread that comic and the only reason he lost was because he defeated Eternity and was forced to take his place, leaving his body (and the Gauntlet) behind. Actually, it's blatantly stated that Thanos doesn't believe himself worthy of the power and actually set himself up for failure. The Avengers 2 would have to be filled with scores of heroes and celestial beings trying in futility to defeat an omnipotent Thanos.
ArmoredAsgardian - 8/10/2012, 5:08 PM
Did a little research and he very well be Chthon. Seemed like more than a run of the mill alien with that teleport thing he did with Loki.
Bane2099 - 8/10/2012, 5:15 PM
@ batz11
@ TheAmazingSpidey63
@ im53
@ marvel72

...Or it could play out like this:

END SCENE OR AFTER CREDITS...Now that the Tesserect is back to being " The jewel of Odin's treasure room " and siting amongst the other relics, Thanos uses it once again as a portal and transports himself in Odins vault. Odin senses a dark presence and dispatches Guards as well as Thor to the room, but it is too late, Thanos is gone and Thor sees worry in Odins face and ask whats Wrong, Odin replies The realms are in grave danger...as the camera pans to where the Infinity Gaunlet once was, but is now gone...
Bane2099 - 8/10/2012, 5:18 PM
@AsgardianGangsta

He's gotta be Chthon with that kind of power he displayed when speaking with Loki from practically another galaxy, he cant just be a high ranked Chitauri.
ThePowerCosmic - 8/10/2012, 6:53 PM
“I couldn’t see a thing. Pretty hard to move, pretty hard to go to the bathroom – a lot of things you don’t think about until you’re all stitched up into a costume like that.”

We need a picture of Denisof in his "The Other" costume on the crapper!
CoolantTech - 8/10/2012, 6:54 PM
so who's more powerful infinity gem Thanos or Galactus?
ThePowerCosmic - 8/10/2012, 6:55 PM
I noticed that the Chitauri and the other all have that gold armor with purple lights running through it. It looks like Thanos gave them all their battle gear.
ThePowerCosmic - 8/10/2012, 6:57 PM
Galactus! But Thanos has outsmarted him before...Thanos is so darn smart...everyone who hasn't needs to read Thanos Quest to see what a genius he is.
logicoflame - 8/10/2012, 8:13 PM
check out in the avengers when the hood loses his powers he goes searching for the gems and only has like 2 at a time in moments. They can have Thanos never fully getting all the gems but searching to make the full glove and at the end he is one away but is tricked or something and never gets them all. And the last one can be the reality gem or something to wish it out of "existince" like Iron man did
ATrueHero1987 - 8/10/2012, 8:18 PM
lol @ people thinking that The Other was Ronan The Accuser on another article.smh
LAXtremest - 8/10/2012, 10:32 PM
If Marvel can get some characters from FOX, I'm hoping Warlock is one of them for GOTG.
MrDuck - 8/10/2012, 11:54 PM
I know this is completely unrelated but somebody suggested that Guay Peirce's character in Iron Man 3 could become the technivore by injecting himself with the extremis nanites. What if instead, he injected himself becoming MODOK? Just an idea
Orphix - 8/11/2012, 2:32 AM
To my mind The Other is definitely Chthon.

He has the interdimensional powers.
He is refered to as 'The Other' which has been an alternative name for him in the past.
He has six fingers and his followers have been refered to as the 'six fingered hand' in the past.
And finally - and what convinces me the most - is that if you check out any of Andy Parks intially designs for The Other in the Art of the Avengers his hood covers half his face exactly as it does in the comics.

If it isn't him - and I was Chthon - I would sue for breach of copyright!!
EarOne - 8/11/2012, 4:29 AM
seriously man...just take a gosh-darn good look at this Denisof guy...and tell me he's not REED RICHARDS, a.k.a. MISTER FANTASTIC, made flesh...

Imagine the new cast of Fantastic Four:

- Alexis Denisof - Mr. Fantastic
- Rosamund Pike - Invisible Woman
- Alex Pettyfer - Human Torch
- Mads Mikkelsen - Dr. Doom
- ?.. i'm still having a hard time figuring out who would make just the right Ben Grimm, or The Thing...any suggestion..??
musashi - 8/11/2012, 5:00 AM
Wesley was badass on Angel!
Fogs - 8/11/2012, 5:28 PM
