Near the end of August, a filming sight in Bourne Wood, England was announced for the anticipated Marvel sequel, Thor: The Dark World. And frequently used as a location for filming movies, the woodland areas is said to establish a “fictional village set in another realm,” in the film, where a battle between two kingdoms will ensue.

While set preparations began August 6, Twitter user LOC Ops has shared photos with us showcasing the progress of the set's construction from then up until yesterday. Although nothing too revealing yet, check out the photos below in addition to one via Lyndsay King displaying a bit of the fictional village's architecture.

The circular frame structures will apparently be yurts in the village. And according to the announcement, the sequence will end with Thor coming to save the day. And it'll involve a substantial amount of Stunts and controlled special effects all within the hours 0700 - 1900hrs. Filming at this location is set for September 10.

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

Holy crap! - thats like... *looks on a map*... less than 2 counties away from me!. I'm so there.

A favourite for many a Pinewood Studios production are the Bourne Woods.

I'm very happy Alan Taylor decided to use more real locations instead of green screens and a studio.

And if I understand it correctly, Bourne Wood have no tall fences nor any security (when they're not filming), so you're pretty much free to walk in.
SimyJo - 8/22/2012, 5:38 PM
@Cerebro;
"Look ma, no green screen"

Definately going to have the Alan Taylor look to it and a more authentic Norse feel. Perhaps thats going to be an Asgardian village outpost.
CaptainAmerica31 - 8/22/2012, 5:39 PM
I like the sound of that, hopefully it pans out well.

Can't wait for this one. It has all the makings of a great Marvel fantasy (and possibly cosmic) adventure! Let's go Phase 2!!

# 2) Known villain is Malekith The Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim which will be played by Christopher Eccleston.

3) In Marvel comics, Malekith was freed by Surtur of Muspelheim and ordered to join forces with Loki to secure the Casket of Ancient Winters in Thor #344 (1984). Loki was beheaded by Balder in the same issue.

4) No mention of whether Surtur or Balder will be appearing so far but casting calls indicates “fire breathing warriors” which could be inhibitants of Muspelheim.

5) The movie’s code name is Thursday Mourning under ‘production company’ Asgard Productions II UK Ltd.

6) The movie will be filmed at Bourne Wood (6/8 to 13/10) with additional filming in Los Angeles. Filming will also be done underground in “long tunnels in London.” Filming will run ‘til 31/12.

7) Thor 2 will be directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones). Script will be written by Don Payne (Thor) and Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan).

8) Confirmed cast members returning are Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Jamie Alexander (Sif), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) and Stellan Skarsgård (Dr. Erik Selvig). Zachary Levi will be replacing Joshua Dallas as Fandral.

9) Sir Anthony Hopkins is still under negotiation to return as Odin as he is being courted by Summit Entertainment for the role of Edward Bailey, the villain in Red 2.

10) No mention of whether Ray Stevenson (Volstagg) or Tadanobu Asano (Hogun) will be returning. No official announcement on whether Kat Dennings will be returning except (x) and (x).

11) Scheduled to be released on November 8, 2013.

12) Casting calls for extras in London and South East of England: “18-50 years old male/female with military experience and ability to march in formation.”

13) Casting calls for “men who are skilled in playing with fire to pretend to be warriors” and are required to be “highly skilled with playing with fire, example skills include - Spinning, Fire Sticks, Fire Breathing, Fire Eating etc.”

14) “Thor’s relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie and Thor returning with Jane Foster.”

15) “I think they’re going to need a good mom in the next film. Loki needs his mom. I have a lot of compassion for him. But we might have to have a conversation about what he just did. ”
Ha1frican - 8/22/2012, 6:20 PM
I hope they use kind of a bleak realistic look for Svartalfheim the others like Asgard or any of the other realms (maybe even Alfheim) should stay more stylized and CG but they have a unique opportunity to go more gritty if they chose to use Svartalfheim like the title suggests
DrDoom - 8/22/2012, 6:24 PM
Wow! A REAL SET!

This movie is really starting to pick up traction. I still am hoping that the Enchantress shows up, even if she is not the main villain.
ATrueHero1987 - 8/22/2012, 6:26 PM
Bring on Thor: The Dark World! Maybe after this Thor, we will get The Enchantress & The Executioner!
Niuhll - 8/22/2012, 6:26 PM
Bourne? [frick] yeah, 15 min drive.
Ha1frican - 8/22/2012, 6:27 PM
@SimyJo you are always on point my man :) im hoping that given Malekith's relationship with Surtur does indeed mean we get him involved in some form ( i vote a Thanos like tease) and it makes sense with malekith's history with the Casket OAW to tie him in with Thor 1 but i hope they move towards surtur and possible... BETA RAY BILL
KnobGoblin - 8/22/2012, 6:39 PM
Yes! I can't wait to see that "keep off the grass" sign in the movie.
MadJakHatesSpinoffs - 8/22/2012, 6:48 PM
Hey Grif, this song by the Offspring describes you perfectly!

"I hate a lot of things I hate a lot of people that are lame
I like to hate stuff 'Cause then I don't have to try to make a change
I hate teachersI hate school I hate the cheerleadersAnd anyone who's cool, yea
I hate the office
I hate the quad
Don't wanna learn nothin'I want to be a slob

It's cool to hate(Hey, ooh, ooh)It's cool to hate
Don't like nothin' and I like that fine
It's cool to hate(Hey, ooh, ooh)It's cool to hate
Don't like nothin' and I like that fine
Don't like nothin' and I like that fine
Yea, I hate everythin'I even hate you too
So [frick] you

I'm always thinkin' badI never have nothin' good to say
I'd rather tear things down
Than build them up
It's easier that way
I hate the jocksAnd I hate the geeks
I hate the trendiesBut I also hate the freaks, yea
I hate Doc Martens
And Muscle Ts'
I'm only happy when I'm in my misery

Cut you down and give you lip
Bein' positive's so unhip
Cut you down 'cause I'm a fool
Bein' positive's so uncool
Bein' positive's so uncool
Bein' positive's so uncool"

@MisterMagurlypse:

"Can u guys see it now? Kat Dennings standing next to the yurts in the village. Ha ha Ho Ho he he!! For Kat, For Asgard!!"

Y-e-a-h, - about that.

I'm privvy to a lot that goes on behind the scenes at Pinewood and ummm,..those are not ACTUALLY Yurts.
What those are, is the framework scaffolding of Kat's corset for the film.
The corset material was finished on-time and to-specification and was moved out of the Pinewood construction hangers last thursday (following exclusive aerial photograph) ready for transport to the waiting framework scaffolding at the Bourne Wood site;

Hope that clears up any confusion.
superotherside - 8/22/2012, 7:22 PM
Yes! Can't wait for this movie!

Grif Yeah, I was saddened at Kate's involvement too, but I still will hope the best for the film! :) Of course you won't but oh well. ;P (In fact doubt you're even reading this comment... lol)

Marvel really hit a home run by hiring alan taylor as director of this movie. I think that this will be the best of the 2013 cbm's.
