Dane DeHaan “Would Love To” Reunite with Josh Trank for the FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

Weighing on superhero films, naming Spider-Man, rising star Dane DeHaan responded to the press asking whether he'd want to reunite with Chronicle's Josh Trank on his Fantastic Four reboot.

Although the long-awaited Fox-distributed project is years away, famed Chronicle helmer Josh Trank is still signed on to direct the reboot of Marvel's First Family, the Fantastic Four. And after learning this while doing press for his upcoming “prohibition-era gangster film,” Lawless, rising Chronicle star Dane DeHaan discussed possibly reuniting with Trank for the forthcoming superhero film, Hollywood Outbreak reports.

“Thank you, you should publish that,” DeHaan jokingly responded after a journalist told him he'd make a great Human Torch. “My guilty pleasure is superhero movies, I love superhero movies,” he admits. “I think a lot of them are really actually great movies. A lot of times people say ʻOh [they're all] the same thing.’ For instance, like Spider-Man; I've seen that superhero movie before, a lot. But, it wasn't necessarily anything new to me, but I thought they did it so well and it was such a human story. Those are the kind of stories, for me, that inspire me.”

“I love going to those movies in the movie theater. And I do think [Josh] Trank is capable of doing that with superhero movies. So, if I would do another [superhero-like] movie, I would love to do it with him because I know he understands the human aspects of them.”
DeHaan concluded, adding that, “He knows they're not just specticle.”

Beyond the swarm of rumors that circulated years ago, one of them being that Benjamin Grimm will be fully CG as the Thing, not much is known regarding the Fantastic Four reboot. From a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, who promises a take on the superhero team that “fans deserve,” Josh Trank will direct the film after 20th Century Fox completes production on The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past. What do you think?

He's been my choice for Dick Grayson
95 - 8/23/2012, 10:14 AM
I think they are going the Ultimate Universe route.
superotherside - 8/23/2012, 10:15 AM
Agreed. That would be fine with me, but they need to do it with Marvel Studios! Hopefully Fox will let the rights run out so it'll revert to Marvel. An FF film would fit right in to the MCU.
95 - 8/23/2012, 10:17 AM
I'm thinking the reboot might be set in the 1960s (like First Class and almost–The Man Without Fear) and possibly feature a younger cast (like JJ Abrams' Star Trek). Maybe even the origin might be shown in the opening moments in the form of "found footage".
DanteSparda - 8/23/2012, 10:18 AM
@95

I hope not, I don't want the F4 to be teenagers, as much as I think DeHaan would make a great Human Torch.
95 - 8/23/2012, 10:20 AM
My bet is still on about him being Human Torch. I think he might already be signed.

@superotherside I'm excited for this reboot but I totally agree, Fantastic Four with Marvel Studios equals longevity.
KaneVonDoom - 8/23/2012, 10:26 AM
Fox should do a co-financing operation and allow FF in the MCU and just have Fiege and Whedon overlook production. It would save them money and their characters would get more use in other films, sell more merchandise which would make them more profit, therefore being a solid business move.
95 - 8/23/2012, 10:28 AM
@DanteSparta I want to see the original 616–aged F4 to be done right some day, but I'm also interested in a Space Race–set Ultimate Universe–version F4. I'm torn.
SageMode - 8/23/2012, 10:41 AM
The backing out of the deal with Marvel Studios made me unsupportive of this even more.

[frick] this reboot.
AutobotCommander84 - 8/23/2012, 10:44 AM
@KaneVonDoom The only thing Whedon should "overlook" is whatever he makes. I don't want that guy having his hands in every single Marvel movie there is. I want Marvel to go back into self-contained stories with characters. Everything post-Incredible Hulk has been overrun with S.H.I.E.L.D. and build-up to The Avengers. Now that Avengers is out, I want everything back to what they were with Iron Man and Hulk aside from maybe Captain America. If you need S.H.I.E.L.D., have them in one or two scenes, but don't milk them in every movie you do. Leave that for the S.H.I.E.L.D. movie and whatever other crap they have lined up.

ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN THAT GALACTUS CLOUD
shawnb - 8/23/2012, 10:55 AM
Hopefully Trank will drop this and we'll be even closer to the rights transfering back to Marvel!
CherryBomb - 8/23/2012, 10:58 AM
I don't think DeHaan should be Johnny Storm.
He doesn't have that "obviously handsome" look to him that would make him seem like the typical womanising type.
Spidey31 - 8/23/2012, 11:02 AM
I wish F4 was with MS it fits well into the formula of the studio. But I agree with @Autobot I don't like the milking of shield. Would like it much more if the phase 2 were not as shield orientated.
MisterNiceGuy - 8/23/2012, 11:03 AM
I'm sorry but the FF are just cheesey as [frick]. I look at them as i do Superman. They WERE cool but now they're old news. Thier superpowers are lame and the costumes are even worse. The only good thing they got goin for themselves is their villains. And i know everyone will get on me bc supes started it all and FF are the OG's of marvel. Yes i know that, and yes i do read comics. But the fact is they are boring and i have not liked FF or Superman since i was like 6 years old. I can live without these films. Of course i would still see them in theaters bc Dr. Doom is the shit. And thats all i have to say about that. If this offends you, good. Bc if something like this ruins your day then your day deserves to be ruined.
Jolt17 - 8/23/2012, 11:03 AM
I'd still rather see him as Terry McGinnis.

Get Ryan Kwanten for Johnny, before he gets way too old!
fettastic - 8/23/2012, 11:04 AM
I will say that after Lee's Hulk everyone said "Why was the Hulk CGI?!?! He should have been a guy in a suit, or just Lou Ferigno!!!!"

So for FF, they went the man in suit route, and everyone complained about it!

Studios can't win.
ATrueHero1987 - 8/23/2012, 11:04 AM
Who knows what could happen with the rights. DD reboot had director and a script at FOX....look what happened to that. Plus, isn't Trank doing another movie or 2 before he "helms" FF? Add to that, production won't start until AFTER the First Class sequel. Not holding my breath though. Let's see how next year plays out....
Maxi91291 - 8/23/2012, 11:07 AM
I really wan to see F4 in the MCU .... maybe someday, we could get scenes like this

And maybe if my will was marvels and foxs command we could someday even get this
IronDean2099 - 8/23/2012, 11:08 AM
He looks like a young DiCaprio.
Equivocal - 8/23/2012, 11:11 AM
I agree with CHerryBomb, we need someone that is very nice to look at, not just any blonde dude....

in other news:

ATrueHero1987 - 8/23/2012, 11:16 AM
I wonder if they will got with the White & Black costumes??

I like the slight changes they made to the white & black costumes. The costumes are starting to grow on me. I will always love the blue though.

MrSteiners - 8/23/2012, 11:18 AM
I could only see him as Franklin Richards in a sequel.
Fogs - 8/23/2012, 11:20 AM
[frick] fox.
Maxi91291 - 8/23/2012, 11:20 AM
@Equivocal

lol, awesome

I know I already posted this some time ago but it is funny
UltimaRex - 8/23/2012, 11:29 AM
"I am Iron Man."

Yeah, that didn't bite him in the arse did it?
Optimus83 - 8/23/2012, 11:30 AM
He is Johnny Storm/Human Torch???
UltimaRex - 8/23/2012, 11:32 AM
On topic, he reminds me of a young Mark Hamill...

Say, I wonder if the Joker will be in the Batboot?
SAT - 8/23/2012, 11:32 AM
He's a great actor but he looks too nerdy & intense for Human Torch, I hope they dont set in the 60's or anytime besides now, just seems weird. BUT still excited about this reboot!
SUPERSHADOWBAT - 8/23/2012, 11:34 AM
Marvel seems to be going with some kind of combination of the 616 and Ultimate universes in their movies. I like the style and look of the Ultimate FF, but I agree they shouldn't be teens.
thunderforce - 8/23/2012, 11:35 AM
This needs to get boycotted bigtime to head back to Marvel not for the FF but for the Baddies .
UltimaRex - 8/23/2012, 11:38 AM
Oh, and sorry everyone but I have to go after a pet hate here.

"Casted" is not a word.

Cast is the past/future tense of cast.

"Cast list." "He was cast as" "She will be cast as"

Sorry to be a "non-existent word nazi" but that gets to me.
DrDoom - 8/23/2012, 11:39 AM
No.

FF rights back to Marvel. Now.
DanteSparda - 8/23/2012, 11:49 AM
@95

Well, I would like to belive they could craft a good Fantastic Four story with elements from the 616 and Ultimate Universe (as a lot of Marvel movies do) without making them teenagers, just wonder what the story would be about, I hope it won't invole their origin, Dr. Doom nor Galactus.

@Equivocal

That was great dude!! You made my day!
dwaynejohnsonsfromundahcheesepanini - 8/23/2012, 11:49 AM
Enjoyed Chronicle; he had a lot to do with that. Dane Dehaan* would make a great Johnny Storm!

*with a little bit of weight added on.
ralfinader - 8/23/2012, 12:20 PM
Really liked Chronicle for what it was, and this dude helped sell it. Hope they do FF justice...sons of bitches....[frick] Fox.
TheBurnSays - 8/23/2012, 12:24 PM
Loved Chronicle but him??? He would have to workout like 24/7 and change his face in the process! But hey, I'm no expert...
gr3yfox - 8/23/2012, 12:32 PM
All I want to say is this site should turn off those [frick]ing link words or whatever. I can't even scroll and read through one article without my cursor popping open "Movies" in this case over and over. [frick]ing annoying.

Anywho, go Dane! That would be dope to see him play Jonny or something.
CherryBomb - 8/23/2012, 12:36 PM

No to Dane being Johnny Storm because:

This:

doesn't have the same effect on my ovaries as this:

dwaynejohnsonsfromundahcheesepanini - 8/23/2012, 12:59 PM
@Cherry

If the two pics provided were taken at the Fox/Trank Fantastic Four Reboot final casting screen test, then yeah, the second is more the physical look of what you want in Johnny Storm. That pic of DeHaan you posted would have him more in line to play Bill Gates in a biopic. :P I can see Dane play cocky & with 6 months of free weight lifting, he could have the Chris Evans physique. This is going with the presumption they are keeping him in the traditional vein of the character and using the youngest version of Johnny they can get away with.
UniBeam11 - 8/23/2012, 1:00 PM
@MIsterNiceGuy
haha if you're offended by this then it should ruin your day, well said

And not to DeHaan as Torch, good actor but just not a fitting role
RunawaysHD - 8/23/2012, 1:05 PM
no I don't think he'd fit any FF characters.
osideous - 8/23/2012, 1:18 PM
holy hell. he's not Johnny Storm please god no.

and ummm, I wanna have an effect on Cherry's ovaries that Chris Evans does

CherryBomb - 8/23/2012, 1:29 PM

@dwaynejohnsonsfromundahcheesepanini

I don't just mean the physique, I mean that his whole appearance, and face, just aren't the typical rugged, handsome Johnny that I always pictured from the comics. He's designed to be this blonde hair, blue eyed mischievous, womaniser type. I just don't think that looks-wise, Dane could pull it off.

CherryBomb - 8/23/2012, 1:30 PM

@osideou I'm sorry, but no one can have the same effect that Chris Evans does. He's a God.
GirlyGeek - 8/23/2012, 1:41 PM
If the reboot is trying to be more "realistic" and focus on acting talent instead of hotness, then I could see Dane being Torch.

Chris Evans is on the top of my "to-do" list, but his acting is so-so. Hurts me deep down to admit that.

And does Dane remind anyone else of a younger, homelier looking DiCaprio? Like his less attractive little brother of something.
MisterNiceGuy - 8/23/2012, 1:52 PM
@Cherry, I'm glad you think so. I am sick of girls going gaga for Channing Tatum. Evans is a stud and I am not ashamed to admit it.
MisterMagurlypse - 8/23/2012, 2:04 PM
Didn't see Chronicle yet so don't know about his acting skills. Thought maybe from the first pic, but after CherryBomb's pic post I have to say no way. He looks like shit ran over twice.
