Yesterday marked the first day of production for Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, on-location in Bourne Wood, Farnham, Surrey, England. And photos revealed a battle sequence being filmed with creature-like warriors and the Lady Sif, played Jaimie Alexander, among other Asgardian warriors. And now today, sans any stars of the Alan Taylor-directed sequel, early photos via Wayne Howes have emerged featuring helmeted and horned extras preparing for today's battle shoot, offering closeups on the many odd-looking creatures!

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

I just hope we can actually see these battles instead of them being glossed over from a far away angle like in the first one. I LOVE Ken Brannagh and unlike the other Marvel turds, i'm not going to bash him just because he split with Marvel, but i do admit he's a little too fond of using far away shots and tilted camera angles...

thalidomide - 9/11/2012, 5:22 AM
The other Asgardian is relaxing like a boss, lol.
Guerillas - 9/11/2012, 5:34 AM
Hope that the movie will be more "grounded" like this set photos, the larger than life architecture of Asgard was cool, but, this looks more compelling.
ComfortablyNumb - 9/11/2012, 5:42 AM
This looks so boss. Imagine a Gladiator type Asgardian battle...beyond epic.
Hexagram - 9/11/2012, 5:47 AM
@Getsuga Tensho22

Totally agree! Dutch angles are not a good idea unless there is a motivated shot that just demands it. The producers did get a great replacement though.
Seejay - 9/11/2012, 5:54 AM

I have been suspecting it for a long time.

But I am now 103% sure.

Grif is actually Plinkett.

Horny bastards.
Cosmic1 - 9/11/2012, 6:38 AM
Hopefully this means Thor will get his helmet back, but I hope every realm isn't grounded in the damn woods, I wanna some mind blowing worlds, I have woods behind my house.
ATrueHero1987 - 9/11/2012, 6:44 AM

GammaVerve - 9/11/2012, 7:28 AM
Cool! Is that a demon in one of the pics?!
Fogs - 9/11/2012, 7:29 AM
@Nomis - I'm having a feeling we'll see Thor using a Helmet in this battle.
Fogs - 9/11/2012, 7:32 AM
BTW rumor says Surtur will have a role in Thor The Dark World.

Hell to the yes!
Kayo - 9/11/2012, 7:43 AM
hell yeah........................this is pure awesomeness

Fogs - 9/11/2012, 7:45 AM
@JonathaNisMagnuM - you know what? On the first battle on earth in Thor 1 we see the asgardian warriors in a real battlefield, dirty and dark and it looks fine, reminded me of the elves in the war of the last alliance in LoTR.

What happened in Thor 1 was that every Asgardian scene happened in palaces and other comfort places, so it seems they were watered down, but that just is their homeworld.

Now we're going to see Asgardian warriors in their business in dirty places again, that's why this is so awesome.
KaneVonDoom - 9/11/2012, 8:01 AM
This is the first thing they've filmed for Thor: TDW... within literally 3 days of any camera beginning to roll on set, and there's people freaking out about them using forests too much and having it look to "Earth-like".

Come on. Wait til you see next week's locations or at least have a hint of what they are planning on for post-production or SFX.
parascythe - 9/11/2012, 8:17 AM
looking again and again in these pictures hoping to find waldo
Jolt17 - 9/11/2012, 8:21 AM
The sets and costumes are looking really good. I sense an epic scene in this one.
Fogs - 9/11/2012, 8:26 AM
@KaneVonDoom and @cipher - I just saw the @Cosmic1 dude complaining.... And that's really a stupid thing to do so early.
Fogs - 9/11/2012, 8:28 AM
@SuspenseSmith - Neither do I, the marauders seem to be invading other realm and burning shit up. Probably like the Jotuns were doing with earth when asgard intervened in Thor 1.
GUNSMITH - 9/11/2012, 8:30 AM
OMG THIS IS GOING TO BE SO BAD AZZ
MrYurMomm - 9/11/2012, 8:30 AM
why does everyone get after Grif? He's just adding his own opinion, just like you add yours.

And you know what Grif? If you have haters, you must be doing something right.

NOW, onto the article,(:
I hope this Thor sequel will "bring the hammer down" and show the general audience how much of a BAMF Thor is! Alan Taylor, you have my trust.
GUNSMITH - 9/11/2012, 8:31 AM
THEY GOT THE PERFECT DIRECTOR FOR THIS ONE...MARVEL, THEY KNOW WHAT THEIR DOING.
lokibane2012 - 9/11/2012, 8:36 AM
Looks badass, just what you'd expect from the guy who directed some of the best episodes of Game of Thrones.

I wonder how Kat Dennings will ruin this one.
Fogs - 9/11/2012, 8:38 AM
@cipher - happens all the time, specially regarding suits :)
LMB10 - 9/11/2012, 8:44 AM
Kat Dennings better have a small role. Or get killed. Or both.

But yeah, these costumes (and set) look awesome! Looks better than I thought it would, and of course gives off a Game of Thrones vibe. I like it.
deanwilkins - 9/11/2012, 9:03 AM
This is Thor! I'm expecting this to be among the top CBM's.
DioFoRio - 9/11/2012, 9:04 AM
This is looking epic so far..@Yoss...hey man you hear Quicksand is getting back together for some shows? And damn that sushi looks good..Ikura sashimi.
DioFoRio - 9/11/2012, 9:06 AM
@Cipher ...you should be used to it. With every CBM movie that comes out it's the same shit. Pics leak early fan boys decree hate ,fanboys see movie, fanboys forget spouting nonsensical bullshit...new movie is in production..rinse wash repeat.
