Chatting recently with Steve Ramos of Co.Create, critically acclaimed filmmaker Joss Whedon further discussed his praised indie take on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, recently acquired by Lionsgate. And what's an interview lately with the director & writer of the world's third highest grossing movie, without his future endeavors with Marvel Studios becoming the topic? Amid the lengthy interview, Whedon broke down his overall process of overcoming initial reluctance to once again helm Marvel's The Avengers highly-anticipated sequel.

“There’s a business aspect to it and I would be disingenuous not to say that, but the question for me is, Do I have another story to tell about these people? So we worked on the business side of it and I didn’t think it was going to happen--I was like 'I’m never going to do this again.' But once they worked on the business aspect of it I thought that seems fair and cool, so, the question was, Do I have another thing to say? I was in London and I went to a pub and had some fish & chips & a pint and started writing in my notebook. I’m writing if I was going to do this what would I say & 40 minutes later I filled the notebook. So I text my agent & said to make the deal. I’m so in love with that universe & the characters & the way they were played & I have so much more I want to do with them. I know I can’t match the success of the first one but I can try to make a better film & that’s what I’m excited about, that’s the new room of fear I’m entering now.”

Marvel Studios already describes their highly-anticipated sequel to the No. 3 highest grossing film of all time, “Marvel's The Avengers,” as another “big cinematic event.” And expected to feature the reassembly of iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow & Nick Fury taking on a new unexpected enemy, new additions to the superhero team up of a lifetime are possible.

Expecting reprisals from Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” sequel is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. And set for release May 1, 2015, the film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to the sequel, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; and “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014.

i'm sure you will make a sequel as good as if not better than the first.
soberchimera - 9/18/2012, 8:53 PM
Yeah yeah I think I know the real reason why he took the job.

What I wouldn't give to get my hands on that notebook...

Awesome! Bring on Avengers 2 Joss! Really hope they do a version of the Masters of Evil and Ultron. That way it would be a lot more "personal" story and make some really interesting action scenes. Like Abomination vs Thor etc. Also I seriously want a Hulk-buster Iron Man to take on Hulk and a no holding back Thor vs Hulk fight.
GoILL - 9/18/2012, 9:06 PM
Glad everything worked out and he will be doing the sequel.
iJackSparrow - 9/18/2012, 9:11 PM
Joss Whedon, you sir are a legend.

"I know I can’t match the success of the first one but I can try to make a better film & that’s what I’m excited about, that’s the new room of fear I’m entering now."

Now, that's the kind of attitude that gets props. And much props to Whedon.

Can't wait for Phase 2 to begin

Mr. Whedon is a great storyteller
ATrueHero1987 - 9/18/2012, 9:17 PM
Glad that Whedon is coming back.
The14thAvenger - 9/18/2012, 9:20 PM
@LEVITIKUZ i like you appreciate both men, but Joss IS god, he hasn't just made one film, he has been involved and created many characters and stories over many different mediums through out all these years that means so much to alot of people especially when it comes to the fantasy/scifi genre not to mention of course CBMS.
Joss is boss nuff said
DioFoRio - 9/18/2012, 9:20 PM
oh boy oh boy oh boy!!! Hope he pulls some shit for the sequel that isn't necessarily from a specific story line.
The14thAvenger - 9/18/2012, 9:25 PM
i got a bit carried away at the beginning there haha i meant boss not god (thats Thor obviously)
jimpinto24 - 9/18/2012, 9:27 PM
Joss Whedon will do a great job directing The Avengers 2. I know it.
The14thAvenger - 9/18/2012, 9:27 PM
i dont think its so much Whedonite or Nolanite, i have major admiration for both (as i do DC and Marvel), i am as much a film lover as a CB lover. just if i HAD to choose one, it would be Whedon
GoILL - 9/18/2012, 9:32 PM
I respect the work that Nolan and Whedon have done but to call either a god is possibly the craziest shit ever.
TheAbomination - 9/18/2012, 9:35 PM
I find myself getting more and more excited for this sequel with each Whedon interview. Bring on Phase 2!!
WinterSoldier24 - 9/18/2012, 9:39 PM
Lo @ this thread so far :)
MegaMatt - 9/18/2012, 9:44 PM
I really don't get the whole Whedon obsession, but he did a pretty darn good job with such a large project. I just wish he didn't give almost all of his characters that snarky, sarcastic humor. Its funny for one or two....but literally...almost everyone.
CaptainRedFurySpain - 9/18/2012, 9:50 PM
Joss "The Boss" Whedon is GOD!
ATrueHero1987 - 9/18/2012, 9:57 PM
@earzmundo You think Whedon's work on Astonishing X-Men was average...? O_o
nuclearpriest - 9/18/2012, 10:03 PM
To the people who say its crazy to refer to Joss Whedon or Christopher Nolan as God, I couldn't agree more. Joss whedon and Christopher Nolan actually exist. Crazy!
Jollem - 9/18/2012, 10:03 PM
so, i see people saying the same exact things about whedon as people have made fun of others with nolan. hypocrisy? once again, yes

keep doin' the crazy shite ya do, stigtrupher ;)

it's entertaining
UrbanKnight - 9/18/2012, 10:04 PM
Ooooookay!

Please...
Cameron, Nolan = Gods.

Whedon = Demi god. ; p
UrbanKnight - 9/18/2012, 10:07 PM
I think Whedon is excited to do it, which is awesome.
Noble6 - 9/18/2012, 10:15 PM
So... He just did it for the money.
thewonderer - 9/18/2012, 10:19 PM
It's funny, joss Whedon is why the good parts in the avengers were extremely good yet why the bad parts were extremely bad.

To say there isn't a better avengers movie out there is laughable, hopefully with a much better villain than lame Loki (Thanos ftw)
peppy - 9/18/2012, 10:21 PM
Joss Whedon thank you good sir , thank you
JerBear - 9/18/2012, 10:26 PM
@thewonderer
There was nothing extremely bad about the Avengers so wtf are you talking about?
ATrueHero1987 - 9/18/2012, 10:34 PM
Loki....a lame villain?! Yea, on that note, I'm going to bed. Goodnight.
AmazingFantasy - 9/18/2012, 10:38 PM
Whedon is better than God.
SageMode - 9/18/2012, 10:56 PM
THEWONDERER

What exactly was extremely bad about MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS
novaprime - 9/18/2012, 10:59 PM
Cant Wait Hope to See More Characters in itt. LIKE FALCON, B.PANTHER, MS MARVEL. IRON FIST, LUKE CAGE. AND MABY A NOVA & ADAM WARLOCK GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY APEARENCE.
Ranger14 - 9/18/2012, 11:06 PM
Loki a lame villain...Lol... Was he killed by a chick with a gun?
Jollem - 9/18/2012, 11:11 PM
he was killed by a chick with a grenade launcher or whatever it was. that being the way to take out a human is actually showing how badass of a human bane was
Jollem - 9/18/2012, 11:15 PM
@SageMode - "What exactly was extremely bad about MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS"

probably the exact same kinds of lame nit-pickery that people have said about tdkr. in which case i usually go with; "it's all nit-picky b.s. and they were both good movies" :)
95 - 9/18/2012, 11:24 PM
There's only one God, and I'm pretty sure he isn't a Ginger :P

Anyway, The Avengers 2 is pretty far off. I'd like to note something more important... Costume Designers for Thor: The Dark World need to win awards. Phase Two's Thor Odinson is so close to the comic version (they even upped the Viking quality), it's brilliant. I'm really excited to see how the grittier (for lack of a better word) Alan Taylor treats the Nine Realms. From here, with a $3.7 Billion six-movie franchise, Marvel has this oozing confidence to bring the "un-film-able" comic book moments to life on the big screen. Anything is possible for comic book adaptations.

@Stigmartyr Is your old account permantely banned?
l0rdleg0las - 9/18/2012, 11:26 PM
Anyone else think it is likely that Joss is being set up to take over for Feige in a few years or be a high level official with Disney/Marvel?
95 - 9/18/2012, 11:32 PM
@l0rdleg0las It's possible and a good idea.
