Before we received confirmation that actor Frank Grillo was joining Marvel's anticipated sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, comedian and radio host Matthew Aaron had revealed, a week earlier, that the End of Watch actor was testing for the villain Brock Rumlow, Crossbones. Well, during a recent episode of Matthew Aaron's radio show, the host personally called up Frank Grillo, who was in the middle of filming Homefront, to congratulate him on landing the villainous role. And attempting to verify his “sources,” Aaron asked Grillo was he making more Crossbones appearances after Captain America: The Winter Soldier, to which Frank modestly confirmed.

“Yeah, it's a good run,” Frank Grillo said. But more interestingly, after he left the chat to “finish beating [actor] Jason Statham's ass” for Homefront, Matthew Aaron said that, according to the same ‘Marvel rat’ that informed him of Frank Grillo's involvement, one of the future films that Crossbones will appear in post-The Winter Soldier is Joss Whedon's Marvel's The Avengers sequel. Aaron added that Grillo will apparently portray Crossbones in three films total, with the inevitable third Captain America movie presumably being his final one.

If true, Crossbones appearing in The Avengers sequel doesn't mean he'll be the main villain, who's rumored to be the Mad Titan Thanos. But it could mean writer-director Joss Whedon and Marvel are heading the ‘Masters of Evil’ route. Also, if Frank Grillo did sign on for another Captain America film, it's possible Marvel are planning on adapting The Death of Captain America story arc, by Ed Brubaker. In it, Crossbones made the first blow that took out Steve Rogers. What do you think?

Described as a political thriller, Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Cobie Smulders with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and is based on Marvel's classic Super Hero Captain America, who first appeared on the pages of “Captain America Comics” (#1) in March, 1941. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is presented by Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing & Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso & Stan Lee are executive producers. The film releases April 4, 2014, & is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Masters of Evil?
MarkJulian - 10/31/2012, 7:22 PM
Masters of Evil would definitely be the
'personal' route that Joss talked about.
BruceLeroy - 10/31/2012, 7:29 PM
Sounds like Masters of Evil to me.
StarSpangledBruce - 10/31/2012, 7:36 PM
At least we get a supporting villain that doesn't die in his first appearance. *cough*IronMonger*cough*
Asterisk - 10/31/2012, 7:43 PM

FrenzyFreak - 10/31/2012, 7:49 PM
They didn't officially announce Sin, but there's a good chance she'll be in there. And chances are Baron Zemo will also be in, considering the villainous Josh Holloway/Nikolaj Coster-Waldau casting role hasn't been filled yet.
dnno1 - 10/31/2012, 7:50 PM
Now a Bane knock off?
marvel72 - 10/31/2012, 7:51 PM
i would of saved the masters of evil for the third film.

-the avengers 2 ultron & kang introduce the vision(maybe thanos as villain if not ultron & kang)

-the avengers 3 masters of evil(maybe thanos will be the villain in the third movie)
AnotherSinisterClone - 10/31/2012, 7:52 PM

CoolantTech - 10/31/2012, 7:59 PM

ATrueHero1987 - 10/31/2012, 7:59 PM
If The Master of Evil are to ever appear in an Avengers movie, the line up from Avengers:EMH would be nice.
Spidey91 - 10/31/2012, 8:00 PM
@dnno1

Crossbones first appearance: 1989
Bane's first appearance: 1993

who's the knock off? :P
soberchimera - 10/31/2012, 8:07 PM
It would be funny at the end of Cap 2, Crossbones returns home to rest and Baron Zemo is waiting there for him. "Did you think you were the only supervillain in the world? I'd like to talk to you about the Masters of Evil initiative."
MrDuck - 10/31/2012, 8:09 PM
If it were me Avengers 2 would be Ultron, 3 would be Kang and if you can make 4 into a Secret Wars type deal with Thanos in the mix
JerBear - 10/31/2012, 8:12 PM
@soberchimera61
XD lol
LFANCH - 10/31/2012, 8:13 PM
@soberchimera61 I think Mandarin would sound much better saying that line than Zemo
ATrueHero1987 - 10/31/2012, 8:16 PM
Also, Tim Roth(The Abomination) said he was signed on to do 3 more films a while back.
CharlesLord - 10/31/2012, 8:25 PM
hmmm interesting indeed
JerBear - 10/31/2012, 8:27 PM
I'd love to see the Abomination done by ILM, or whoever did Hulk in Avengers. That'd be a visual masterpiece.
superotherside - 10/31/2012, 8:31 PM
Yes, Masters of Evil for Avengers 2! Thanos can just be behind the scenes.
thewonderer - 10/31/2012, 8:33 PM
Careful don't dare mention Bane, the fans here will get upset
Dustellar - 10/31/2012, 8:35 PM
Masters of Evil?
-Mandarin (Iron Man 3)
-Zemo (Maybe Captain America TWS)
-Crossbones (Captain America TWS)

Such a good time for comic books!!!!

Did anyone really ever see things going this far / this good??!
Ha1frican - 10/31/2012, 8:47 PM
I like him and the character but i will reserve judgment on whether this is a good move until we get some Cap footage
GLprime2814 - 10/31/2012, 8:50 PM
That's cool an all, but I rather that spot go to a villain not seen on big screen.
Mego - 10/31/2012, 8:55 PM
This guy used to be on Guiding Light. Cant believe hes still around.
Funsize - 10/31/2012, 8:57 PM
Interesting. They can do so much with the sequel I'm looking forward to what they plan to do with it.
XavierLehnsherr - 10/31/2012, 8:58 PM
SanFranLand, no I did not.

Our culture growing up through the 80s and into the 90s. I thought the furthest superheroes would go would be cartoons and hit a wall right there. Superman was loved in the 70s/80s cuz of the effects, and Batman was loved in the 90s because he was portrayed realistically.

I never thought I'd ever see Avengers and Spider-Man in their full color costumes not only coming out in theatres, but being embraced by the public.

I guess after decades of cynicism, the general public now needs heroes.
KaneVonDoom - 10/31/2012, 9:00 PM
Radioactive Man has already been cast for IM3...
mgeoff88 - 10/31/2012, 9:02 PM
The Masters of Evil for The Avengers 2? [frick] YEAH!!! They could save Thanos for The Avengers 3.

By the time Phase 3 rolls around, hopefully Ant-Man, Wasp, Black Panther, and Ms. Marvel will be on the team.
DioFoRio - 10/31/2012, 9:06 PM
hey wonderer take the dick outta your mouth when you enter a room that's nolanfree.
DioFoRio - 10/31/2012, 9:07 PM
masters of evil would be sick.
jimpinto24 - 10/31/2012, 9:07 PM
Intrsting! Thanos will be the main villian in The Avengers 2. So Crossbones would have to be a co villian. Or The Master of Evil would be great! I'm pretty sure they will go with The Daath of Steve Rogers by Ed Brubaker in CA3 since Crossbones is coming back.
DioFoRio - 10/31/2012, 9:10 PM
too soon to kill Cap....I hope they dont try to burn through all the major story arcs too soon. No need to even have the movie follow a specific story arc....
