Toby Jones Theorizes About Arnim Zola’s Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

While Hayley Atwell comments on Sharon Carter’s inclusion in the Russo Bros.-helmed Marvel sequel, her First Avenger co-star Toby Jones alludes to Arnim Zola’s comic backstory translating on-screen.

Just a couple months shy of filming’s official commencement, lead and supporting cast members of Captain America: The Winter Soldier have implied they’ve yet to read the script in its entirety. In light of Toby Jones learning only last month that he would take part in the 2014 sequel, where hes reprising his Arnim Zola role from The First Avenger, the English actor told On The Red Carpet that he, too, doesn’t know much about the nature of his presence in Marvel’s third ‘Phase Two’ entry.

“I’m told I am gonna be involved,” the actor reassured at the London Evening Standard British Film Awards. “But of course, I don’t quite know how much I’m gonna be involved. I think the theory is that Arnim Zola is gonna come back and, I’m told by people who know much more about the myth of this stuff, that he invents the secret of eternal existence.” Alluding to future appearances post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Jones added, “So, it’s looking good for future films as well. So that character in particular is a good one to get involved with.”

The guys from On The Red Carpet also spoke with Toby Jones’ First Avenger co-star, Hayley Atwell, who already confirmed that she wouldn’t reprise her Peggy Carter role. However, now according to the English actress, “You might see [Peggy] in some other context ... I’m not playing Sharon Carter,” Atwell said of her character’s niece, who actress Emily VanCamp was reportedly cast as. “But [Peggy’s exclusion] was inevitable because, obviously, Steve Rogers wakes up in the first one and it’s modern day. Peggy would be very very old or dead. So, it wasn’t really a surprise to me.”

For videos of the above quotes, make the jump here and here. Anyhow, with 2013 follow-ups to Iron Man and Thor in post-production, Marvel is expected to start filming Captain America: The Winter Soldier between next month and April, primarily in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as Los Angeles and Washington, DC.. And contrary to reports that suggest production was delayed, sources say that everything is on schedule and large set pieces are being constructed right now. What do you think?

Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury & the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, Toby Jones, Cobie Smulders with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joe Russo & Anthony Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; & “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

GUNSMITH - 2/9/2013, 9:20 AM
THEY NEED TO MAKE A WAY BETTER CAP SUIT...I MEAN REALLY REALLY.
starkresilient - 2/9/2013, 9:24 AM
This movie sounds it will try to handle lots of things but couldn't. I don't have too much hope for it because I love the winter soldier storyline.

They better change cap's uniform.
DCMarvelFreshman - 2/9/2013, 9:29 AM
There will definitely be a new suit. For merchandising purposes especially, you can expect a new suit with every new movie for every Marvel character. The question is how many changes will they make from The Avengers suit.
KaneRomita - 2/9/2013, 9:31 AM
It's possible Zola will only be in flashback scenes.. We never did find out what he was doing to Bucky before Steve found him (in CA:TFA). Seemed like some brainwashing may have been going on.
beane2099 - 2/9/2013, 9:35 AM
Hoping for a different suit than they had in Avengers, myself. I also hope we don't see Face-in-the-chest robo Zola. Never been a fan of that, honestly. I mean, it's cool and all in the comics, but I don't know about a movie.
BlackHulk - 2/9/2013, 9:39 AM
I cant see how the MCU Zola would fit into Captain America 2. In TFA, Zola was portrayed as a passive aggressive timid guy. He only did as he was told by the Red Skull out of fear, not respect or desire to rule the world.
thorhulk77 - 2/9/2013, 9:39 AM
I like Toby Jones a lot. Pause lol
longbowhunter - 2/9/2013, 9:45 AM

DioFoRio - 2/9/2013, 10:01 AM
@JCameron by the reading the posts you leave you may want to cut down on the doses of the meds you posted.

Has anyone else noticed in first Captain America movie,in the scene right before Cap find Bucky, where Zola is quickly putting things in his briefcase,a blueprint he is putting in?It's being showwn very quickly,but it's a blueprint of a robot,like these he has in the comics!01:03:36 second.Is it a very well hidden easter egg,or is it just my impression?
IDKwhatToChoose - 2/9/2013, 10:08 AM
@chancellor LOL

There hasn't been one TERRIBLE Marvel movie since they started phase 1. I doubt the Sequel to Cap will be bad.
IDKwhatToChoose - 2/9/2013, 10:08 AM
made by Marvel/Disney LOL ^^^
DrDoom - 2/9/2013, 10:14 AM
Can't wait to see this on the big screen

Azazel1 - 2/9/2013, 10:24 AM
If they do not change Caps costume then forget about it

BOMB

TayDee - 2/9/2013, 10:27 AM
Secret of eternal existence? What could this be? I don't really follow Captain America's at all.
Happy11 - 2/9/2013, 10:35 AM
@jCameron you still here lol.
ATrueHero1987 - 2/9/2013, 10:36 AM
@Azazel1 I remember you were a "decent" poster on here. What happened to you?
SpideyQuad - 2/9/2013, 10:39 AM
Well however it turns out it can't be worse than the second Hulk movie, the one with surfer Hulk that can only jump 20 feet.
RetroFit - 2/9/2013, 11:22 AM
I preferred Caps costume in CA:TFA a LOT more than the Avengers version. I wish they'd go with the Ultimates helmeted look. I also thought the Avengers version blue colour was off. That said, what a trifling thing to ruin a movie for someone. I'm glad to see Arnim Zola but I wish they had used Baron Zemo in the first one so we could see new Baron Zemo in this or the Avengers movies.

Paragon79 - 2/9/2013, 11:33 AM
If he's in it, he'll either be incredibly old, or in his robot form.
TheAbomination - 2/9/2013, 12:18 PM
Zola's back? Sweet! I'm in!
BasedThanos - 2/9/2013, 1:13 PM
@Azazel1
Wow, do you really have this mindset, or are you just being annoying?
@jcameron

TexasTwoFace - 2/9/2013, 1:44 PM
Am I the only one who really liked Captain America's uniform in the Avengers? I thought the stripes should have gone all the way around because I thought it looked a little weird from behind, and I thought the helmet's blue should have matched the rest of the blue but other than that I loved it and those are just small nitpicky things.
jessepostal - 2/9/2013, 1:57 PM
I liked the uniform, I would have made it a tad darker but it was the helmet that looked funny. I got over it quickly though
Azazel1 - 2/9/2013, 3:27 PM
@asgardiangangsta-I really do have this mindeset.

The Captain American costume is ridiculoulsy bad.

Winter Solider is going to suck because slowly nobody is going to take the charachter seriously with a costume like that.
Super12 - 2/9/2013, 3:44 PM
Really disappointed we won't be seeing Hayley Atwell as an old Peggy Carter. I always wanted a scene where she's in the hospital on her death bed and Cap walks in. Though she hasn't walked in weeks she sees him and her eyes light up, he helps her up and they have their dance. Call me a romantic I don't care, but that would be an awesome way to tie up their story perfectly.
SpideyQuad - 2/9/2013, 4:22 PM
CBM/nerds are a fickle bunch for sure. Then you have your straight out troller's that are following a warped agenda. You have your loyal brand A's who can't stand anything made by brand X.

Then you have the angry ones who hate everything. And finally the funny guys that bring us Boobies, bottoms, and laughter!
NovaCorpsFan - 2/9/2013, 5:21 PM
Spidey said it best right there.
CoulsonLives - 2/9/2013, 5:54 PM
JCameron get OUT!!!! If Cap and Thor were real. They would whoop your ass into another galaxy!
CoulsonLives - 2/9/2013, 10:14 PM
jCameron. Like you can make a movie...
mgeoff88 - 2/10/2013, 1:20 AM
With Arnim Zola being present in CA:TWS, Baron Zemo shouldn't be too far behind.

I still wish Hayley Atwell was coming back for the sequel. I loved her in CA:TFA.
EarOne - 2/10/2013, 2:52 AM
Wow..just think if Steve and Peggy actually got to do it in the first Cap movie, it'd be REALLY awkward to have that scene in Hayley's though bubble realized..where Steve and his current honey, Sharon, Peggy's niece, meeting the now OLD peggy..but, actually, more intriguing to watch.
Canon38 - 2/10/2013, 5:12 AM
@Super12, i like it.
