David Hasselhoff Gripes More About Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury Portrayal In THE AVENGERS

Revealing that he'd like to don the eye patch again, David Hasselhoff explains his distaste for Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and reiterates that Stan Lee had dubbed him "the Ultimate Nick Fury." Check it out!

During an interview that's all too similar to Lou Ferrigno saying that his Hulk is the best Hulk there is, actor David Hasselhoff spoke with Yahoo Movies and reminisced about playing Nick Fury in the 1998 TV movie Nick Fury: Agent of Shield versus Samuel L. Jackson's 'ultimate' portrayal of the character in The Avengers movies. "I was the first Nick Fury," he said. "Stan Lee put me in that. He gave me the best line ever: 'Guys like you tend to cling to the bowl no matter how many times you flush'. Stan Lee came on the set and told me all about Nick," he added. "He said 'You're the ultimate Nick Fury'. He gave me the greatest compliment ever." But what does he think about Samuel L. Jackson's performance? "You know, it wasn't Nick Fury. They take these shows and they make it the way they want to make it and unfortunately, they should have had Stan Lee on the set and let him kick him into gear - whoever directed [The Avengers] decided they wanted to go that way. But it's their prerogative. He's still a great actor." On what it was like playing the eye-patch-donning character, Hasselhoff explains, "It was a challenge. But it was also more fun than anything. I did a lot of research - I read as much about Nick Fury as I could. Nick Fury is a real tough guy and he didn't have any special powers… A big word in my life is 'respect' and you know, might for right," David Hasselhoff continues. "He was a big throwback to the old World War II days, you know. I was hoping to have played him in the movie," he revealed. "And then Samuel L. Jackson came in and he was a great Nick Fury but he wasn't really the consummate Nick Fury, the way he was written. And I think that's a shame because he's a great character and a funny character… I'm hoping to do it again sometime."

Let it go Hoff..
Giznad - 9/4/2013, 9:49 AM
Kurt Russell would've been great. And yeah, I guess I'm just merely saying that because of Snake's eye patch.

i actually think kurt russel would be an excellent 616 fury, especially now that hes older.

its also ironic that hoff was "THE Ultimate Nick Fury" and Sam Jackson is "Ultimate Nick Fury".

they should put the Hoff on agents of shield, as like old man nick fury.
Dinotron - 9/4/2013, 9:59 AM

On the one hand it's pleasantly surprising to see Hoff have so much respect and effort for a character he's played.
On the other, dude he needs to let it go and move on! Stan probably says every actor is the best for his roles.

Wait...

David Hasselhoff is still alive?

He hasn't killed himself yet after his "career" on Baywatch and a cameo in Spongebob?

You know he should shut the [frick] up but he's not wrong. Samuel L was playing Samuel L
marantaz - 9/4/2013, 10:14 AM
Have a beer, Dave, and shut the hell up.
JoJo1982 - 9/4/2013, 10:17 AM
David was actually umm okay in that nick fury TV movie back in the days. I remember liking the movie back then(maybe because at that time a live action marvel was soo rare) but I enjoyed the show when I was young. I'm pretty sure if I watch it now I might get a good laugh out of it
supermarioworldE - 9/4/2013, 10:18 AM
Sorry Hoff, Jackson is the better actor.
Liderc - 9/4/2013, 10:20 AM
Wow, he didn't hold any punches about Sam. He's obviously pissed, for a guy with zero talent, he should be happy that he's gone anywhere in Hollywood. I actually don't like the current Nick Fury that much, I think Sam plays him awkwardly despite being a massive fan of him. "I have my eye on you." Shit like that shouldn't be said, think it was in Iron Man 2.
JoshuaDBr - 9/4/2013, 10:21 AM
I would prefer Hasselhoff as Fury. But oh well.
Indy - 9/4/2013, 10:21 AM
He not wrong but Samuel L doing the Ultimate Nick from the Ultimate comic line not ww2 Nick. there is a different It is what it is.
Dedpool - 9/4/2013, 10:22 AM
Kurt Russell as original Fury would work, as would Josh Brolin!!!
WruceBayne - 9/4/2013, 10:23 AM
Asselhoff is a complete joke. He's like Shatner, the only thing he's good for is a parody.
Odin - 9/4/2013, 10:23 AM
So, in the light of current Marvel comic universe, can I assume that Samuel L Jackson is suppose to be David Hasselhoff's illegitimate son?
knocturnalzen10 - 9/4/2013, 10:25 AM
really........................................?
nailbiter111 - 9/4/2013, 10:25 AM
definition of delusional.
BlackHulk - 9/4/2013, 10:26 AM
Dont blame SLJ's performance of Nick Fury when Marvel didnt bother to give him any backstory or substance to work with.

Someone's butthurt.
MarvelSquadie - 9/4/2013, 10:32 AM
If they ever do a movie in the MCU where the story goes to different dimensions, they can have him be Nick Fury in that. 'Nuff Said!
DCMarvel2020 - 9/4/2013, 10:33 AM
Samuel L. Jackson is the best. Sorry, Hoff, but I prefer Jackson.
Dunejedi - 9/4/2013, 10:33 AM
Isnt "Don the eyepatch" a sex term? I'm pretty sure Gusto proposed it my first day here.
JoJo1982 - 9/4/2013, 10:35 AM
@blackHulk

Too true!!!
malreyn - 9/4/2013, 10:36 AM
Praetorian - "You know he should shut the [frick] up but he's not wrong. Samuel L was playing Samuel L"

Actually, Sam was playing Fury playing Sam.

I like both white and black Fury but, they are different characters.

Hasselhoff is a joke. That's why we love him! :D
JoJo1982 - 9/4/2013, 10:42 AM
Actually to be honest

Samuel l Jackson was playing nick fury which in the comics nick fury is acting like Samuel l Jackson
NCboyChris - 9/4/2013, 10:47 AM
Hoff is a TERRIBLE actor and needs to get over himself. His pilot film was awful and is best forgotten
BlindJustice - 9/4/2013, 10:47 AM
I remember when this and the 'Generation X' movies aired. Back then, us comic book fans took what we could get! DC was doing their Batman thing and a year earlier had 'thrilled' audiences with 'Batman and Robin'...yeah. So for what they were, they weren't terrible. The only thing Marvel fans had to compare these shows to was meager attempts at Captain America, Punisher, and Fantastic Four movies. The internet was young still and fan-made movies were almost non-existent...although to today's fan-made movies and trailers, these movies would be terrible.
GodzillaKart - 9/4/2013, 10:47 AM
Stan calling the Hoff "The Ultimate Nick Fury" sure is ironic.

Hoff played the classic Fury in a 3rd rate film.

Jackson played the Ultimate Fury in a great film.

Not much more to say about it.
Chewtoy - 9/4/2013, 10:47 AM
Ultimate Nick Fury is indeed a kind of shitty version of the character, but that's not really Sam Jackson's fault. Mark Millar recreated him as a thinly veiled stereotype of a Sam Jackson role. Then they cast Sam Jackson to play him, leaving him nothing to do with it.

That said, Hasselhoff's Fury made "Sharknado" seem classy.
ParisSun - 9/4/2013, 10:50 AM
That is the truth. The comic ultimate Nick Fury is just playing Samuel L Jackson. So Sam is playing himself playing Nick Fury who is based off of Sam.

But yeah Hoff, not knowing who directed the Avengers is a great way to get on the set. Idiot.
