His poor poker face almost gave it away during Anchorman: The Legend Continues interviews, but it appears Paul Rudd will in fact portray Hank Pym in Ant-Man, the first installment to 'Phase 3' of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There were reports last month that prematurely declared the Oscar-nominated actor a top contender over Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but The Wrap and multiple sources now report that Rudd has just entered "early negotiations" to lead the long-gestured Marvel film.

Rudd has appeared slimmer than usual during promotion for the Anchorman sequel. According to The Wrap, it has very much to do with Ant-Man as the actor is "training for the physical role."

This news isn't too surprising especially considering Joseph Gordon-Levitt has committed to a DC comic book adaptation for Warner Bros. And Paul Rudd has since been the only name linked to the coveted role. As for supporting cast members, we still don't know if there's any legitimacy to previous rumors that actress Rashida Jones may play the lead female role, Janet Van Dyne. Anyhow, Ant-Man is scheduled to shoot in Atlanta, Georgia in May 2014. And directed by Edgar Wright from his screenplay, co-written by Joe Cornish, the film opens July 31, 2015! What do you think?

Yes! I'm excited to see if Rudd takes the role! I know people on this site don't like the whole 'comedic actor' thing, but I think Marvel made a good decision to eye/pick someone like Rudd - he has a big enough name to draw attention, especially during those 3 weeks of MoS 2 glory...
CaptainAmerica - 12/18/2013, 5:08 PM
Awesome choice!!!!!
JordanKing - 12/18/2013, 5:08 PM
I just hope they don't overdose on the funny pill like Thor: The Dark World did.
UltimateWarrior - 12/18/2013, 5:08 PM
I'm hoping he and Wright go outside their respective comedic comfort zones, and deliver a serious style of movie.
crashrendar - 12/18/2013, 5:09 PM
what a weird way to phrase that headline.
jamesbrando3 - 12/18/2013, 5:09 PM
Awesome! I am down for this. I like Paul as a person and an actor plus it's nice to see an unconventional leading man here and there. He deserves the bigger profile this move will garner him. Can't wait to see Rudd kick ass and be the newest addition to the Marvel family...
BatManiac - 12/18/2013, 5:10 PM
I'm not pleased, but I'll give Rudd the benefit of the doubt.
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:10 PM
im pretty sure this movie is gonna have tons of humor,i think paul rudd can pull off pym, hank always were the regularg uy of the scientists in the marvel u to me and i think rudd can play that
BatManiac - 12/18/2013, 5:10 PM
@OldGreg

I'm hoping for that too, but I think that might be asking for too much.
JamesMan - 12/18/2013, 5:11 PM
Meh... let's give it a whirl I suppose.
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:11 PM
Batmaniac- yeah,i think casting in superhero films has been pretty good for the most part in the last few years, regardless of the problems that people may have had with this years 4 superhero films, acting was not one of them in each review that i read or heard
JoeMomma29 - 12/18/2013, 5:12 PM
Sounds like a good choice.
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:12 PM
i think marvel has decided the tone for their universe which is light tone with some dark moments in between, aslong it has good characters anda good story,im fine with the tone of their films
Galaxy - 12/18/2013, 5:13 PM
I thought Marvel was going to make Scott Lang be Ant-Man instead of Hank Pym...weren't they?
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:14 PM
i like the variety of tones,im fine with the light tone in the mcu films,i do have problems with them overusing it sometimes and im fine with the tone of the forming dccu
JoeMomma29 - 12/18/2013, 5:14 PM
@ Blackjack

It is pretty much safe to say that Paul Rudd is a lock for the role.
DukeAcureds - 12/18/2013, 5:14 PM
Hahaha, I knew it. The bastard.
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:14 PM
Dgtz-that was the idea back in 06 ,but they rewrote the script to fit the mcu
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:16 PM
i frankly think that cap 2 is gonna have the least amount of humor in MCU, its gonna have humor but it looks like the humor goes down as the stakes and tension racks up in the film
GoldenOne33 - 12/18/2013, 5:17 PM
Give him blonde hair and I'm in. And i want Rashida Jones as wasp.

After this she is probably a go.
BatManiac - 12/18/2013, 5:17 PM
I just don't think Hank Pym = funny. I'm open to humor, because you know, that's what they do, but Paul Rudd is ALL humor, and that's not what I want.

I'm not hating on Rudd, I think he is a funny guy. I'm just not keen on a 'funny guy' playing Hank Pym, but as I said, I'm going give him the benefit of the doubt.
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:18 PM
Blackjack-kevin feige once asked whenthey announced avengers age of ultron, how big of a part hank pym will play in the movie and he said pym will be seen in his OWN movie so i think its pym
JamesMan - 12/18/2013, 5:18 PM
@Desrow
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:18 PM
Batmaniac- hasnt puall rudd done some dramatic stuff and plus it depends on what wright wants to depict hank pym
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:19 PM
plus i think rudd has done some dramatic stuff and i have ehard he is pretty good
Dinotron - 12/18/2013, 5:20 PM
People said the same about Chris Evans and look at how that turned out, people need to quit counting people out before anything is seen

I just hope they don't overdose on the funny pill like Thor: The Dark World did.

***

They didn't overdose the humor in Thor: TDW. It had the same amount of humor that the first Thor movie had. Also, Wright is directing this movie. So, this movie will have plenty of humor.
jambion - 12/18/2013, 5:21 PM
why the [frick] does it say rudd is academy award nominated?
NovaCorpsFan - 12/18/2013, 5:22 PM
He and Affleck are gonna be the shock performances of 2015. Mark my words!
BatManiac - 12/18/2013, 5:22 PM
@ezio619

Rudd's memorable roles have all been in comedies. Comedies are his niche.
bonesmcgee - 12/18/2013, 5:26 PM
I'm very happy for him!
Poolio - 12/18/2013, 5:27 PM
Damn it!
ezio619 - 12/18/2013, 5:27 PM
Batmaniac-yeah,but he can still pull it off, just like u,im gonna give him the benefit of the doubt
BatManiac - 12/18/2013, 5:28 PM
A Screen Actors Guild Award isn't an Oscar.
BruceWayneNewton - 12/18/2013, 5:29 PM
It will take a trailer to get me really excited about this movie in comparison to the other cbms being filmed right now.
