Mark Ruffalo Pushes For A Standalone Eco-HULK Movie

Though he only comments briefly on the possibility, The Avengers' Mark Ruffalo talks about using Marvel's Green Goliath to somehow promote an eco-friendly environment. Check it out after the jump!

Of all the stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bruce Banner/ Incredible Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo is probably the biggest activist, as he frequently uses his celebrity to underline the environmental risks of hydraulic fracking. Well, while attending the Sundance Film Festival to promote his latest independent film Infinitely Polar Bear, in which he stars with Guardians of the Galaxy's Zoe Saldana, Ruffalo discussed spreading his political bent. "As artists we have an ability to reach a lot of people in a deep way, and we have a responsibility," he said. "What we have to do as storytellers is to take science and make it relatable. I think we have to tell the story of the positive & what we're going to try to do. Give them alternatives but don't make it a polemic."

When Mark Ruffalo was asked how he could spread his eco-friendly message to major studio films, he mentioned possibly reprising his role as Marvel's Jade Giant in another standalone film post-Avengers: Age of Ultron. "I think that's the way to go, and it's a trend that'll start to develop," he said. "As a culture, when we latch onto a fad, we're actually working something out in the creative subconscious. The fact that all these doomsday and end-of-times movies are coming out is because we're actually working that out in the culture. I'm in The Avengers, but if you took my screentime it would come to about ten minutes, along with the 12 other people I'm sharing the screen with, so my input's kind of limited on that. But if we get to a standalone Hulk movie, I'll have a much better chance to do that. I'm just learning now how to find my voice and bring it into the studio world." So, an eco-friendly Incredible Hulk movie? That may not work out especially if rumors of a Planet Hulk movie turn out to be true, but what do you think?

Though he was the first to declare the script was already near complete, maybe Mark Ruffalo could pitch green awareness to writer/director Joss Whedon when The Avengers sequel starts shooting in April. Nonetheless, we'll get to see the big four - Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor - together again in March when their actors assemble at the Oscars to celebrate real heroes in film.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader. The anticipated film is set to release on May 1, 2015.

This guy's commitment is serious.

BTW, if he gets a solo Hulk movie, I want that one to compete against MoS2 in May 2016.
HulkbusterNYC - 1/18/2014, 3:19 PM

Screw that, just play the role the screenwriters write.
He needs to keep his beliefs to himself & be a good monkey.

SuperCat - 1/18/2014, 3:37 PM
Make this sh@t happen!!!!!
MediaMan - 1/18/2014, 3:38 PM
As if the possibility of a solo Hulk film didn't have enough obstacles, well, here's another one. "Message" movies (especially liberal ones) don't have a great track record.

Personally, I doubt we see a solo Hulk film anyway, at least not for a longgggg time. JMO.
crowlers - 1/18/2014, 3:41 PM
There's bound to be a solo Hulk film eventually, surprised they haven't already announced one since he was so popular The Avengers.
Comics have often been used for social commentary, old Hulk stories had the Hulk dealing with homophobia. An eco-film could have Hulk dealing the destruction & Banner not just cleaning up the Hulks mess but trying to create a legacy like in the comics.

Yes. Like in the new Hulk run. He's working under SHIELD so they can finance his work. We've already seen he's focused on helping people in the Avengers.
Ruffalo you just went up a few notches in my book. I'm all about our environment and I think it could work for sure.
Would be a great theme. He's a force of total destruction yet he is looking to better the world. Maybe throw in the leader as the villain.

Jor-El: Will you not understand? Krypton's core is collapsing! We may only have a matter of weeks! I warned you, harvesting the core was suicide! It has accelerated the process of implosion!
Lor-Em: Our energy reserves were exhausted. What would you have us do, El?
Jor-El: Look to the stars, like our ancestors did, for habitable world's within reach. We can begin by using the old outposts.
Ro-Zar: Are you seriously suggesting that we evacuate the entire planet?
Jor-El: No, everybody here is already dead. Give me control of the Codex. I will ensure the survival of our race. There is still hope. I have held that hope in my hands...

Clark Kent: I have so many questions. Where do I come from? Why did you send me here?
Jor-El: You came from Krypton, a world with a much harsher environment than Earth's. Long ago, in an era of expansion, our race spread out through the stars, seeking new worlds to settle upon. This scout ship was one of thousands launched into the void. We built outposts on other planets, using great machines to reshape environments to our needs. For 100 thousand years our civilization flourished, accomplishing wonders.
Clark Kent: What happened?
Jor-El: Artificial population control was established. The outposts and space exploration were abandoned. We exhausted our natural resources. As a result, our planet's core became unstable. Eventually, our military leader, General Zod, attempted a coup, but by then it was too late. Your mother and I foresaw the coming calamity and we took certain steps to ensure your survival. This is a genesis chamber. All Kryptonians were conceived in chambers such as this. Every child was designed to perform a predetermined role in our society as a worker, a warrior, a leader, and so on. Your mother and I believed Krypton lost something precious: the element of choice, of chance. What if a child dreamed of becoming something other than what society had intended? What if a child aspired to something greater? You were the embodiment of that belief, Kal. Krypton's first natural birth in centuries. That's why we risked so much to save you.

I'd sell my soul to see a Hulk movie starring Ruffalo.
Liverpool4life - 1/18/2014, 4:02 PM
He wants to make the Hulk version of Superman IV.

Liverpool4life - 1/18/2014, 4:03 PM
The Quest for Ecotopia.
CharlesLord - 1/18/2014, 4:04 PM
I can actually see the whole "stop nuclear waste/radiation" angle in a solo hulk film. Even tho I hate the red hulk, this could be a way to introduce him.
Liverpool4life - 1/18/2014, 4:08 PM
The Agents of Anti-Fracking.
Starfox - 1/18/2014, 4:09 PM
Make it happen! Now Marvel! May 6 2016 needs to be The Incredible Hulk.

....but just for the record, there's no way on earth it will compete with Bats vs Supes AKA Justice League
AlexanderLykins - 1/18/2014, 4:11 PM
How about 3 Marvel movies in 2016? Doctor Strange, Black Panther and a The Indestructible Hulk. Then in 2017 give us a Captain America and Thor sequel. 2018 will be Guardians of the Galaxy: The InHumans featuring the InHumans and the Avengers: Infinity featuring everyone.
AlexanderLykins - 1/18/2014, 4:12 PM
My idea is the best, so we're going with that!
crowlers - 1/18/2014, 4:12 PM
Stan Lee said The Hulk was partly a critique of the a-bomb & nuclear war (how building weapons turns us into monsters).
Omarvls - 1/18/2014, 4:12 PM
Make happen May 6 2016
Dr Strange AKA The Defenders
Liverpool4life - 1/18/2014, 4:13 PM
Not the Incredible Hulk, not the Indestructible Hulk, but the Anti-Fracking Hulk.
AlexanderLykins - 1/18/2014, 4:13 PM
Let's have the Hulk take on Batman vs. Superman and see who the winner is. I honestly think our new Hulk could do some damage.
sanyaya - 1/18/2014, 4:13 PM
sure make it 2015 may so It could destroy Batman/superman movie that ill teach Warner Bros a lesson to not hype shit out and then get coldfeet at the end
Kurne - 1/18/2014, 4:13 PM
It's going to be hard doing another Hulk solo movie with or without acknowledging Ed Norton's Hulk...
Magnus66 - 1/18/2014, 4:17 PM
These Hollywood liberals always think their opinions and causes are more important than others because deep down they know they produce NOTHING and actually do NOTHING for the good of society or the betterment of mankind.

It's the reaction to the worthlessness they all secretly feel but can never truly admit. It's also the reason they have so many award shows... actors celebrating actors to remind you of how important actors are. It's really quite pathetic.

Hey Mark... keep your liberal, guilt ridden needs to yourself and just STFU and do what the director tells you to do.
Liverpool4life - 1/18/2014, 4:17 PM
Hulk vs Lorax (including cameos by Green Hoblin, She-Hulk, Green Lantern and Green Arrow).
Liverpool4life - 1/18/2014, 4:19 PM
@Feathers

Left-wing propaganda.
AlexanderLykins - 1/18/2014, 4:20 PM
I'm way to stupid to understand this. What exactly are we working out in culture?
crowlers - 1/18/2014, 4:20 PM
@blackandyellow wherever your getting your info it's certainly not from a reputable source.

AlexanderLykins - 1/18/2014, 4:22 PM
Maybe we should look to the stars? Maybe Space is our best friend? Maybe we need to realize that our resources are running out and we need to go up! Like, now!
