Since Warner Bros. has pushed back the release of its untitled Batman/Superman movie into 2016, Disney/Marvel has taken advantage of the vacated date and bumped up Ant-Man yet again. Now instead of July 31, 2015, the Edgar Wright-directed flick will open on July 17, 2015. This new date will pit Ant-Man against Warners' new Peter Pan movie, and it'll follow The Avengers: Age of Ultron by just two and a half months. Anyhow, starring Paul Rudd, Michael Pena and Michael Douglas, the film is scheduled to start shooting in May, in and around Atlanta, Georgia. What do you think?

,i was reading an article from CBR saying how Edgar Wrights Ant Man could be Marvels Biggest film to date and they emntion something that i found interesting....

The original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, was one of Marvel's premiere heroes, pre-dating Marvel luminaries Spider-Man, Iron Man and the X-Men. Pym's early adventures, while not played for laughs, were pretty footloose and fancy free with a sense of fun and high adventure. His banter with the Wasp made for fun, fast paced, rollicking superhero tales set in the Cold War. Then, when Ant-Man lost his own feature in "Tales to Astonish," he became a regular player in "The Avengers." There, Marvel creators created story elements and plot developments which moved the character forward rather than keeping him as the outdated Cold War adventurer. While these new elements to Pym's character created such legendary stories as the coming of Ultron, they also made the character a rather tragic figure saddled with intense guilt and emotional baggage.

The creation of Ultron, bouts with mental illness and spousal abuse came to define the character, and it's very difficult to find a modern Hank Pym story that does not reference this trifecta of character flaws. Forget that he was being emotionally controlled when he struck the Wasp; the action came to define Pym as a character. While these elements certainly added layers to Pym's backstory, they also succeeded in completely robbing the character of the airy lightness that helped define the Ant-Man character. The power to shrink (or grow) is fantastical in nature, a power which should be filled with joy and humor -- a tone that came across in the early Pym stories. It's hard to capture that tone when focusing on a character whose defining moments were spousal abuse and accidentally creating robot Hitler.

By settling on Scott Lang as the film's primary hero, Wright has freed himself from having to deal with these elements; instead, the story can focus on the joy of Ant-Man's abilities rather than the past sins of a broken man. "Ant-Man" has the potential to put the fun back into a concept weighed down by decades of melodrama, a formula that can mean huge things for the potential franchise.

So edgar wright definitely seems to be going for the fun tone that hank pyms story used to have before he started to hive his emotional baggage, also edgar wright seems to be homaging the 60s era of comics and making hank pym the cold war spy/adventurer he was ebfore the emotional baggage started to come in

Going against Pan? Pay back to WB for taking their May 2016 date?
Fantastic4ever - 1/23/2014, 2:31 PM
Come on DC Marvel is just humiliating you at this point. I guarantee on May 6th DC will win though marvel doesn't have anything that will go against batman v. superman unless it's avengers 3 which it won't be.
MrCBM56 - 1/23/2014, 2:31 PM
People might get mad, but I think Pan can beat this.

Anyways, still some-what looking forward to this.
Reasonnnn - 1/23/2014, 2:32 PM
To be honest I'm looking forward to both films. Edgar and Joe Wright are both fascinating directors.
Jollem - 1/23/2014, 2:32 PM

ATrueHero1987 - 1/23/2014, 2:33 PM
This great news!

NOW, BvS new release date....either WB will change dates again...or Marvel will change theirs. I just to see them releasing movies the same day.
Kurne - 1/23/2014, 2:33 PM
Considering that they've moved this, I don't think they're budging on that May 2016 date.
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 1/23/2014, 2:33 PM
About 1/4 - 1/2 the movie will most likely focus on Douglas in his days back in the day. It'd make sense.
jlabatman - 1/23/2014, 2:34 PM
Might as well move it up, no competition for it to succeed!
ezio619 - 1/23/2014, 2:34 PM

ezio619 - 1/23/2014, 2:38 PM
also i was watching the fight scenes in the worlds end and they are well shot, fast paced and inventive and that immeditely got me excited to see the fight scenes in Ant Man cause he has said its an action packed movie
Klone - 1/23/2014, 2:38 PM
Marvel is mocking DC at this point.
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 1/23/2014, 2:38 PM
Guaranteed #1 spot at the box office, good for Marvel!

Pan is that movie with Hugh Jackman and Garret Hedlund. It's from that director of that Soloist movie with Jamie Foxx and Downey Jr. I'm pretty for sure his directorial list is few are far in between and they're all very artsy fartsy. It won't beat Ant-Man. No way. lmao.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 1/23/2014, 2:38 PM
I wonder which one is going to win

VS.

Arrowhead77 - 1/23/2014, 2:39 PM
@ Jollem

Ant-Meh...LOL
Maxi91291 - 1/23/2014, 2:39 PM
@Spidey4

If by win you mean destroy at he BO then just count how many times Marvel "won". :)
cipher - 1/23/2014, 2:39 PM
SpiderParker - 1/23/2014, 2:40 PM
LOL, after this news, I'm even more sure that Marvel won't change their May 6, 2016 date.
MarkV - 1/23/2014, 2:41 PM
GinjaNinja - 1/23/2014, 2:41 PM
marvel should move their may release date. They would make far more doing a film a few weeks later.
ScorpioRisin - 1/23/2014, 2:41 PM
[frick] PAN. Ant-Man better destroy it.
MarkV - 1/23/2014, 2:41 PM
Marvel, why must you twist the knife!!!!??
Mateo777 - 1/23/2014, 2:41 PM
Clever move, I hope that Marvel don't rush the film though.
Nomis - 1/23/2014, 2:42 PM
Sloppy Seconds. :)

BlkThunderGod - 1/23/2014, 2:43 PM
Dc takes another thrashing. I have a feeling this movie will be a lot better than expected.
ezio619 - 1/23/2014, 2:43 PM
Mateo- edgar wright has been writing the movie for like 8 years basically, lol, plus i think they have their cast locked down they are just waiting to announce them,i do hope they dont just shoot through it quickly do
Shamo - 1/23/2014, 2:43 PM
cool i guess?
yonny616 - 1/23/2014, 2:44 PM
Lol That's just adding insult to injury.
CherryBomb - 1/23/2014, 2:44 PM

It's hard to find natural excitement for this when I find out Hank Pym wasn't the main guy and was going to be played by someone A LOT older than I hoped.

They still haven't said anything about Wasp. WHAT ABOUT WASP!?!

I'll still watch it though.
ThePowerCosmic - 1/23/2014, 2:45 PM
Shots fired back!
TheUltimateSuperman92 - 1/23/2014, 2:45 PM
[frick] ant-man , ant-meh ..whatever I dont give a shit

I prepared my body and mind for bat vs supes in 27th July 2015 now [frick] WBs

nothing I look forward in 2015 except of avengers sequel ...2015 was meant to be a great year but every single movie in that year has been delayed ...
McNyagano - 1/23/2014, 2:45 PM
Pan will get decimated especially if Ant-Man appears in the post-credits scene of the Avengers. I think Marvel should move their May 6th date, they won't win agaisnt Batman vs Superman. Sure, it will hurt that movie but their film won't gross to its potential. They need to move.
wcwpoet - 1/23/2014, 2:45 PM
This is good news you can get a nice 1 2 punch with Age of Ultron than Ant-Man
