VIDEO: Stan Lee Says Samuel L. Jackson's 'Nick Fury' Doesn't Get Angry Enough For Him

During his C2E2 panel, Stan "the man" Lee insinuated that he's not satisfied with the way (former) S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, is portrayed in Marvel's Cinematic Universe

“...Supreme Headquarters, International Espoinage, Law-Enforcement Division,” said Stan Lee of what S.H.I.E.L.D. originally stood for (via Vixen Vasity). “They changed it to something else [in the MCU]. I don't know why they changed it. And another thing that bothers me, not about [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.], but S.H.I.E.L.D. in general in the movies, is the fella who plays Colonel Fury,” started Lee. When reminded of the veteran actor's name, Lee continued, “He’s a friend of mine I don’t remember his name, but Sam Jackson can do the best angry tough guy can imagine. And every time I see him in the movies, he's so quiet and soft and I'm waiting for him to get excited and yell at people and he never does. So, I don't know why they don't make him like I picture him being. Why am I telling you that, it's not why you came here.”

I do not care too much for Stan Lee's opinion nowadays.
TheThrasher08 - 4/29/2014, 11:51 AM
Uh oh.
RamonSuarez - 4/29/2014, 11:52 AM
Stan also envisioned a white man who looks like Dean Martin for the role.

Things change.
maninfinesuit - 4/29/2014, 11:52 AM
Yeah. We need Nick Fury to drop a mother[frick]er in Avengers 2.

blackandyellow - 4/29/2014, 11:53 AM
Omega, what do you think of the Donald Sterling lifetime ban?
Destined - 4/29/2014, 11:53 AM
Wow...interesting comments from Stan. He might want to take that up with Kevin though. That's how they've written him, not to mention he finally got more development with TWS, so it's not like he's had much opportunity. Take it up with Kevin bruh.
BlindJustice - 4/29/2014, 11:53 AM
He didn't put down Sam... He put down the directors of the movies he's been in.
Nomis - 4/29/2014, 11:53 AM

I personally think Sam Jackson's portrayal as Nick Fury is pretty well done. I never really grew up with the 616 Fury so I don't really know the differences between Him and The ultimate version. Can anyone else manage to explain the differences Story/Origin and Character Wise?

@BlackandYellow Silver laid the hammer down and I'm glad! Bravo!
YoungThanos - 4/29/2014, 11:54 AM
Meh, for the record I like the White Nick Fury in the comic better anyway....

If Sam could portray that I'd have no problems.
BlindJustice - 4/29/2014, 11:55 AM
@Rockteur - Yeah, he's got some serious energy for a 91 year-old! I hope I'm like that at his age.
MexicanSuperman - 4/29/2014, 11:55 AM
I agree with Stan Lee. I like Sam L. Jackson as Nick Fury but I wish he off on everyone Pulp Fiction style. The original name for Sheild soulds better.

stan ''i think that's just great'' lee keeps his mouth shut when someone is ruining his greatest creation in the comics BUT he complains about nick fury in the movies. put him in a nursing home already, he's past his expiration date.
Spiderfan2226 - 4/29/2014, 11:57 AM
Honestly, It doesn't matter what Stan thinks. He was a pioneer, but the Marvel universe today is nothing like the one he envisioned all those years ago. He is not an expert on the Spiderman character as Peter is today, and his opinion on the current product is not particularly valid. He's an old man now: that's not an insult, its just the truth. He doesn't know what makes for good movies or comics in 2014. He's the figure head everyone wants to show respect to, so they bring him out for interviews, panels and cameos and hope he doesn't say anything too embarrassing.
Marvel1997 - 4/29/2014, 11:57 AM
Damn Grif... Lmao I think you should show "The Man" some respect
patrat18 - 4/29/2014, 11:57 AM

blackandyellow - 4/29/2014, 11:57 AM
Destined, haha yeah he wasn't [frick]ing around.
GA15 - 4/29/2014, 11:58 AM
i like how sam jackson play nick fury. he doesn't need to play angry black man in every film.
BlindJustice - 4/29/2014, 11:58 AM
@grif - Your opinion. The day Stan passes will be a sad one indeed! He's one of the main reasons we're all commenting on this site right now.
Marvel1997 - 4/29/2014, 11:59 AM
I'm not sure but isn't the 616 Nick Fury kind of.... Outdated?
JoeMomma29 - 4/29/2014, 11:59 AM
I am going dressed up at Stan Lee at this years SDCC, man am I excited!

Mercwitham0uth - 4/29/2014, 12:00 PM
This isn't the first time Stan has had something to say about Marvel films:

"I would have liked the Hulk to be smaller in the first two movies, and I didn't like the way Doctor Doom was portrayed in Fantastic Four. Now with Daredevil, they just wrote the whole thing wrong. They made him too tragic. That's not the way I wrote him."

However when he showed up at the 2012 Fan Expo Vancouver he was asked the same question by somebody in the audience. Stan replied "No comment".
Marvel1997 - 4/29/2014, 12:00 PM
@GA15- Looool
Starfox - 4/29/2014, 12:00 PM
LOL I love Stan Lee.
PAF - 4/29/2014, 12:00 PM
I like how Sam portrays Nick. He is the spy. Spies need to be cool, calm and collected. He plays that very well. Stan take a seat. The movies are doing well with out your input, thank you very much.
m0th3r - 4/29/2014, 12:01 PM
Assemble Mutha F**kas!
cipher - 4/29/2014, 12:01 PM

Most characters don't get shit-faced enough for me.
JoeMomma29 - 4/29/2014, 12:01 PM
Stan is the man and he is entitled to his opinion, but he tends to undermine what Marvel Studios is doing right now.
m0th3r - 4/29/2014, 12:01 PM
@PAF yea a super spy is not flamboyant, loud, or aggressive. He is sly, stealthy and decisive. Different.
