Are the Comic Book Movie Gods smiling to us?

It certainly seems so. After The Avengers conquered the World, proving to be worthy of becoming one of the World's mightiest films, our friendly neighborhood The Amazing Spider-Man is the next blockbuster superhero film of the year, with the release date on July, 3rd. The first impressions surrounding the film after the earlier press screenings are pun most definitely intended amazing, but it seems that the good news are far from slowing down.

Yesterday at the press junket for The Amazing Spider-Man, the producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach talked exclusively with Crave Online about the idea of expanding the Spider-Verse with a Venom film and more interestingly, about the possibility of Spider-Man meeting The Avengers.

Here are two excerpts of the interview below.

About Venom:

As you know, Venom is defender of the innocent,” said Arad. “The only guy he really, really hates is Peter Parker, Spider-Man. The reason you didn’t see more development on Venom in the comics is because this power that he was given, he knew who Peter was, he knew who Spider-Man was, so go kill him already. We always struggle with storylines and you see the new Venom books. It’s Flash in Iraq. We know that if we put him in a certain position and concentrate on the human, not on the creature, which I thought was a really good beginning in 3.

About The Amazing Spider-Man meeting The Avengers in the future:

Everything is possible,” said Arad. “If something like that happens, it’s great for Disney, it’s great for Sony. If the right story comes in, we are now working on Venom first. It’s our first out. So our thinking is in the right direction. Avengers to me was an expected success so I never looked at it because Avengers was successful.

Is this a dream? If this is Comic Book Movie Heaven and the Comic Book Movie Gods are smiling to us, I am smiling it back to Them. Read the full interview here.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

'Avengers 2' is way down the line, so they have plenty of space to release a 'Venom' spin off meantime. However the idea that Disney and Sony joining for an 'Avengers' Sequel, seems unlikely to me.

All for it, would be amazing etc...just not getting my hopes up just yet.
iJackSparrow - 6/10/2012, 7:24 AM
From what we've been hearing from the press screenings, I'm more than okay with Sony keeping Spider-Man's movie rights. An agreement between Sony and Marvel for this to work would be the best scenario.

The Amazing Spider-Man is already happening in the Marvel Movieverse's continuity in my mind, anyway.
marvel72 - 6/10/2012, 7:24 AM
believe it when i see it,not until then.
thunderforce - 6/10/2012, 7:26 AM
That would be so cool , then all we would need is Wolverine .
Duhdaduh - 6/10/2012, 7:29 AM
the avengers is already super successful and will make boats of cash for the sequel, hands down. it doesnt need spidey to draw in money, thats why this probably will never happen. a man can dream tho...spiderman and wolverine would be perfect
Mrcool210 - 6/10/2012, 7:34 AM
if it was so "possible" then why didnt they let him have a cameo in the avengers OR the incredible hulk? HMMMMMM?
TopCat89 - 6/10/2012, 7:37 AM
Plus I reckon they'll introduce Ant-Man, Wasp, Black Panther etc to the team first, before dealing with the trouble of joining forces with other production companies...
TopCat89 - 6/10/2012, 7:39 AM
@Mrcool210

Because they haven't re-introduced him yet with the reboot. Though i'm not arguing with you about the "possibility". Unlikely!
Mrcool210 - 6/10/2012, 7:40 AM
avi arad just needs to shut up. He's gone [frick]ing senial
nuclearpriest - 6/10/2012, 7:40 AM
The worst thing that could happen to the Avengers is not Ultron or Kang, It is having Avi Arad in any way attached to an Avengers movie. Lets not forget that this is the man who thought that the Fantastic Four movies should have a sitcom family feel and then went out and hired a comedy director to implement that vision. This is the man who hired a marginally talented writer/director to direct the Daredevil movie and then hired the same marginal talent to ruin the first Ghost Rider movie. If Spider-man joining the Avengers comes with a side helping of Avi Arad then no thank you!
Mrcool210 - 6/10/2012, 7:41 AM
@topcat89 his cameo is the incredible hulk was just peter taking pictures in the background, they wouldn't need to re-introduce him
iJackSparrow - 6/10/2012, 7:43 AM
The Amazing Spider-Man looks like it will e huge. Not The Avengers huge, but amazingly close enough. It's destined to become the most successful reboot of all time, stealing the first spot from Star Strek.

People LOVE The Avengers and people LOVE Spider-Man. I can bet good money that they will find a way of making this possible. After what The Avengers did, NOTHING is impossible anymore. There is no ceiling.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLED!!!!!
ThreeBigTacos - 6/10/2012, 7:45 AM
It already seems like The Amazing Spider-Man would already fit in the MCU. The Hologram technology on the computers from TASM trailers already feels like Stark's own technology in the MCU.
iJackSparrow - 6/10/2012, 7:45 AM
@nuclearpriest

This is also the man who contracted Sam Raimi and Marc Webb for the Spider-Man films and it's somewhat of a mentor for Kevin Feige, the Comic Book mogul of the hour. Your point?
Seven23 - 6/10/2012, 7:51 AM
Bring on it !!!!
iJackSparrow - 6/10/2012, 7:53 AM
@ThreeBigTacos

Exactly. And more notice how the Marvel Movieverse is heavily integrated by making science the running theme through all the characters. They could easily set TASM as part of the Marvel Movieverse if they get into an agreement. It fits perfectly.
marvelstudios - 6/10/2012, 8:07 AM
its not even in the same universe, i don't think. how would it work
nuclearpriest - 6/10/2012, 8:11 AM
@iJackSparrow

I believe I made my point abundantly clear in my original post so let me take your points instead. Yes he did hire Raimi which ultimately lead to Spider-man 3, part of the reason that the series is being rebooted in the first place. Point 2, we don't know what kind of job Marc Webb has done on this movie so you might want to wait before you use him as an argument for the genius of Avi Arad. Point 3, you say yourself that Arad was SOMEWHAT of a mentor to Kevin Fiege who very quickly unseated Arad in his post and hasn't looked back since. If Arad was so good he would still have his job at Marvel instead of being shown the door in favor of his paduwan.
marvelstudios - 6/10/2012, 8:14 AM
lol i want TASM to fail, then go back to Marvel, then after a while Marvel do their own Spider-Man
iJackSparrow - 6/10/2012, 8:26 AM
The Avengers and Spider-Man together would EASILY become the highest grossing movie on Earth. Anyone thinking differently just isn't facing the facts when it comes to these two properties.

And seriously, people WANT this to happen and Arad is acknowledging it. If it was impossible, he'd flat out deny it, which is not the case. After The Avengers, I'm more of a True Believer than ever. I trust that it's possible, yes. And more than that, I think that the Spider-Man universe was build this time taking in consideration how the rules work within the Marvel Movieverse. It is bound to happen. And I'm happy as hell for that.

@nuclearpriest

I know from very reliable sources that have seen the press screening of The Amazing Spider-Man last Friday that the movie is so good that rivals The Avengers and trumped the first trilogy. And this is coming from a HUGE fan of The Avengers telling to another HUGE fan of The Avengers. The Avengers is my favorite blockbuster of all time, and if The Amazing Spider-Man is somewhat close to that,it's already among the best blockbusters of all time to me.

I'm a fan of the first two Raimi's Spider-Man but the man in fact screwed up with the last one, what fits nicely with the birth of the Marvel Movieverse. And you're not getting your facts straight here, actually at time it looked like Avi Arad was promoted, because the Marvel Studios was nothing but a bet and the deal between Sony and Marvel was the most profitable thing that Marvel had going at time. Arad may have his faults, but he has made a good number of home runs too. I want this to happen as any other reasonable comic book movie fan would, and hopefully it will happen regardless the reservations that some of you may have.

@marvelstudios

I call it bullshit. No real comic book movie fan and MUCH LESS no REAL Marvel fan would want The Amazing Spider-Man to fail. And if that's what you're hoping for, you're about to get disappointed, my friend. But since I don't believe that you actually care about this characters, screw you, "marvelstudios".

Whats up with the redirecting? I enter certain articles and they redirect me to some phishing sites (watchmoviefree and so on). This article redirected me to some mileycyrus site.

You can bypass this by clicking stop load before it redirects. Annoying though.
iJackSparrow - 6/10/2012, 8:35 AM
@TheWallCrawlingMenace

This "marvelstudios" fella is clearly a plant from the TDKR fanboys. I started to call them out here and now they are using other accounts to bad mouth anything Spider-Man related. NO REAL MARVEL FAN would want to see a Marvel film to fail, ESPECIALLY one from Spider-Man. The mindless posts are actually quite easy to spot. ;)

@TimL

I don't know what is going on either, but most of the pages are happening this to me too. Annoying as hell. Hope they can fix it.
blvdnoise - 6/10/2012, 8:50 AM
This article is effing up hard, and kind of stealing the spotlight from this news in the process.. But damn It'd be super, crazy, awesome to see Mr. Parker swinging into battle alongside Earth's Mightiest!
nuclearpriest - 6/10/2012, 8:50 AM
@iJackSparrow

While I too have seen the recent reports that ASM is a great movie going experience, I have also seen reports(possibly on this site I think) that say that ASM is an unmitigated disaster. I hope it is the former because I am a Marvel Zombie of the first order but I'll wait for the reviews on that one

As for your point that Avi Arad was getting a promotion before he left Marvel
A. promtions are handed out in Hollywood like tic-tacs. Here today gone later on today. That's not always a barometer of ones competence.

B. Help me out here because, as top dog at Marvel Studios wasn't he in more of an influential position than he's in today? what was he being promoted to? I must have missed that story.
SageMode - 6/10/2012, 8:59 AM
If this ever happens, it will UNDOUBTIDLY become the highest selling movie of all time.
Asterisk - 6/10/2012, 9:19 AM
Every time I click on this page, I get a link to some website with a "Miley Cyrus Crotch Shot". Any one what is even the hell with that?
marvelstudios - 6/10/2012, 9:21 AM
relax im a marvel fan as well as dc. and what i want is all marvel characters in the same universe. i dont mind waiting a few years to see spiderman on the big screen, marvel will have other characters on screen in between.
TimL - 6/10/2012, 9:58 AM
I've checked the source code and the comment of "ShawnaLauzoncdrf" has an image included which can not be loaded and as a result it fires the included "onerror" part which uses javascript to redirect you to the website.
