Stephen Amell On ARROW Season 2

Stephen Amell On ARROW Season 2 Stephen Amell On ARROW Season 2

The CW's Arrow has done the unthinkable; they've taken Batman-lite superhero Green Arrow and made him a national network television station's most watched program. So where do you go from there in Season Two? Star Stephen Amell drops a few clues.

I wasn't kidding when I said Green Arrow was Batman-lite. Created in 1941 and debuting in More Fun Comics #73, Green Arrow and Speedy were archer carbon copies of Batman and Robin, compete with Arrow-car, Arrow-plane and an Arrow-cave. Through the years he's grown away from that association but many comic book readers still identify him as a third-string Batman wannabe. Yet, Marc Guggenheim, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kresiberg have reimagined Green Arrow for The CW as a justice-seeking, ruthless (yes, he kills bad guys) vigilante who operates out of Starling City by his own personal code. The television show routinely hovered around the 3-million viewer mark each episode, a mark of consistency amongst a very shaky Fall class of new television programs. So what's in store for fans in Season Two? Oliver Queen actor Stephen Amell was recently quizzed by IGN, how do you rate his answers?

IGN: So when you pick up [in Season Two], how is Oliver going to deal with everything that has happened [especially the jaw-dropping event of the season finale]?

Stephen Amell: We’re just going to find everybody in a different place. I think we’re actually going to find Oliver literally in a different place at the beginning of next year. It’s our second season, but it’s kind of like a new series. So I’m excited.

Hmm, is that an indication that Arrow Season Two will open with Oliver in some other DC Universe city. Coast City, Bludhaven and a few other notable locales were name-dropped in Season One.

IGN: How do you think [Oliver's] going to process the loss of Tommy [and what does that mean for his superhero career]?

Amell: Not well. The reason that he was the vigilante, the Hood, all that stuff is gone now. Merlyn’s been stopped, the list is essentially somewhat obsolete, the Glades are destroyed. If he’s going to become the vigilante again or something different, he’s gonna need a new reason.

The first season really wrapped up the story began in the pilot and the show writer and producers will need to find a new mission for Oliver next season. Hopefully, it's not just some generic decision to be a hero because 'the people need a champion.' Part of the allure of season one was that 'The Hood' wasn't some cookie-cutter superhero that maintained a secret identity and fought crime at night. That would be going back to the 'More Fun Comics' and Arrow-cave days of 1941.

IGN: Might it be growing to incorporate more DC Comics characters?

Amell: The world is growing...

Obviously, fans of the show look forward to each episode and seeing which DC Comics character, reference or Easter egg will be woven into that week's show. The amount given to fans during the first season was very impressive and appreciated by comic book readers. As for Season Two, it will be interesting to see just how many new faces show up. Quite a number of the villains from Season One are actually still alive and kicking so it's quite possible a few will be returning to plague Oliver and his Scooby Gang this Fall.

The issue becomes that we are then "married" to the Arrow version of these characters. I just picture characters like Deadshot and Deathstroke being purer to their comics look. Deathstroke looks ok, but Slade should be older I think. Deadshot needs a more traditional look. Just my opinion.

No, do not connect this to a possible DCCU.
Instead, connect Arrow with Syfy's Booster Gold (if it happens). Build a TV universe.

Pumped for Season 2! I think it will be interesting to see Oliver's character develop from vigilante to hero...

As for DC character cameo, Nightwing seems most logical.

Very excited for Season 2 to start. We need that Booster Gold show on SyFy now so that we can have a cross-over!!! Then, we could see Tommy again through time-travel...

Manu Benett freaking nails it as Slade Wilson.

I don't want to see anyone else in the role.

And yes this show rocks, connect it to a DCCU

Simply stop using any DCU characters.

Superheroes are not suited for low budget tv series.

Leave Batman's allies and villains alone! Do not touch Hal Jordan, he already failed with a movie, no need to worsen his case with a shitty tv show.

Do a Brave and the Bold movie alongside a World's Finest movie.

"If they were smart they would connect Arrow to the DC Cinematic Universe starting with Man Of Steel. They would actually have 1 up on Marvel since DC has a successful tv show connected to their movies"

Well, if Agents of SHIELD does well, they'd break even, providing WB and DC play the connection card. Given how the show is playing it a very Mike Grell way (where Green Arrow was very much insulated from the greater DCU, even when guest stars from outside appeared), It's all very wait and see. I think they really want to play the TV show as it's own thing for at least one more season before opening it up more.

In the meantime, let's just wait and see how much ass MoS kicks at the box office (which, I'm hoping, will be an obscene amount).

I would be fine with this connected to a DC Film Universe. Or any of these characters and villains really worthy of a movie? Deathstroke perhaps but he's great in the show. Also Green Artow isn't bad.

@Matchow

Deathstroke would look older because most of what we have seen of him took place 5 years before the shows present. Deadshot could be upgraded in a world with super heroes.

@soforizo

If you don't connect ARROW to the DC movie universe but do expand to the DC universe you basically get SMALLVILLE all over again.

I think it would be awesome to see Red Hood show up at some point. He could be there after Deathstroke and needs Oliver's help. He would be working for Batman, but Red Hood would just call him "his boss". Maybe he could be kind of cocky and crude, but he could back it up which gives him the edge. That's what I wanna see.

did anyone else noticed that they mentioned Central City?
And Laurels mom said "I'll be back in a Flash?"

It would be cool if Flash made an appearance, but I feel its unlikely.

I have enjoyed the entire season of Arrow, it has been one of the best tv superhero shows ever IMO. Not being a DC fan, its all new to me and the references to other places and characters usually pass me by. And I like that. I appreciate the producers efforts to make this show their own universe to develop a larger DC presence.

I think Nightwing/Red Robin would screw up the timeline. Nightwing/Red Robin as the same age as Green Arrow? Kinda screwy. Unless They are younger but a 15 yr old Nightwing is wrong. Wait until Oliver is a little older and more experienced to introduce Grayson.

The Question would be a great cameo. Batman/Bruce would totally overshadow Ollie.

I have to admit its a good show. Not even close to my fave dc character (commie-lite), my least fave network, too smutty and slick.

But damn its well made in spite of itself. Much more on-the-level than smallville. For damn sure.

Not a fan, but I could live with this being part of dccu.

I would think that they will expand on Speedy and the consequential team-up. I could see Amanda Waller making herself known and even recruiting him for a mission or two with either Checkmate or the early great version of the Suicide Squad where they were mostly non super powered heroes. Knightwing, I think is inevitable and maybe even a scrap with the Birds of Prey. However, if they bring Wonder Woman to the WB, that could lead to the introduction of super powered beings.
