Ridley Scott Reveals Guy Pearce's Role In PROMETHEUS; Comments On Its Connection To ALIEN

The director comments on how his upcoming sci-fi epic Prometheus is connected to his classic movie Alien, while also revealing Guy Pearce's role in the film.

When the first Alien movie and Blade Runner were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, and Weyland-Yutani in Alien. They sent the Nostromo spaceship.

The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.

Wait, what? Scott contradicted himself here. We have 100% confirmation that the Alien aliens and the Space Jockey will appear, from him and sources, a glimpse in the trailer and a leaked mask of the Space Jockey. The most likely option is Scott is lying about Peter Weyland being the only connection between the two films, or has forgotten that he debunked that a while ago. Still, share your thoughts below in the usual place.

Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba, Prometheus is set to hit theaters June 8th, later this year.

LucasMend - 2/26/2012, 8:42 AM
He's making us getting confused by each declaration he gives, that's the deal. We'll only know on June 8
joeker - 2/26/2012, 8:43 AM
Ridley Scotts a [frick]ing idiot at times
MovieMaster - 2/26/2012, 8:45 AM

poop23 - 2/26/2012, 9:04 AM
im pretty sure he knows what he's doing, and people are just over examining what he says way too much. How about we just let the man make his movie and lets just see what its about when it is in theaters
TheManWithBigEars - 2/26/2012, 9:10 AM
@ grif

Seriously thats what your griping about? Wow...

All I know is this film looks cool, not a big Alien fanatic or Ridley Scott fanatic but it's got an old school vibe; one of those films that completely sucks u in n just looks epic; so count me sold
Ranger14 - 2/26/2012, 9:11 AM
So...It's not a prequel???

poop@ I prefer to know somewhat what a movie is about prior to shelling out money to see it.
Rhys - 2/26/2012, 9:20 AM
Kick-A$$!!!! Pearce as Weyland? This film seems to get better and better...
Timerider84 - 2/26/2012, 9:25 AM
How can you be part prequel, part entirely different? That makes no sense? You either be one or the other!
Yodawars - 2/26/2012, 9:27 AM
When Scott says that there will be new monsters the most logical conclusion is that There will be Xenomorphs but they will gestate inside the Space jockey resulting in a "new" Alien.

This film is obviously a prequel. I think that by this point with everything we've seen its got to be. If it's not then this movie will probably be a major letdown for everyone.

Ridley Scott... The more you talk... The less interested I get.

Another word from you old man... And you won't have a customer in me.
acidbath - 2/26/2012, 9:37 AM
Lol he's trolling you all trololol
OnLeatherWings - 2/26/2012, 9:39 AM
if its not a prequel its a let down? i dont think so. majority of people seeing this dont have a clue its even sightly connected to the alien franchise and see this as a kick ass movie. and the little amount of people (all of us here)that care enough to research the movie and know about the little connections there are should be able to grasp the concept that this movie only takes place in the same universe of "Alien" and is not considered a prequel but a movie that stands on its own. and that concept right there is what makes this movie so unique and epic. its breaking out of the same old rehashed "prequel" concepts that hollywood keeps shoving down our throats.

theres my little bit for the day lol

ALIEN--"HEY MAN YOU HEAR ABOUT THAT MOVIE PROMETHEUS?"

PREDATOR--"YEAH I HEARD YOUR MOMMA WAS IN IT..I MET HER AND MADE A MISTAKE ..THAT'S WHY YOUR HERE."
MovieMann - 2/26/2012, 10:43 AM
Actually, it was confirmed that the original aliens would NOT be in this film.
Look it up.
AsianVersionOfET - 2/26/2012, 10:59 AM
These are some of the best comments I've ever seen. And I cannot wait for this movie!
headlopper - 2/26/2012, 11:02 AM
@teabag- You're funny.
Hey ,are you a mailman?
headlopper - 2/26/2012, 11:04 AM
As for the continuity controversy, I have a theory:

I think Lucas and Scott are golf buddy's.
sarahsatire - 2/26/2012, 11:20 AM
@Gunsmith

Haha nice pic. BUT... A Predator would own an Alien in intellect anyday.

@mothman

Thanks for clearing that up. Saved me the time of trying to mentally unravel the mysteries of Ridley Scott.
zerakis81 - 2/26/2012, 11:24 AM
Hope we finally see a Alien in this movie after all...
MrDuck - 2/26/2012, 11:31 AM
Dude if the xenomorphs aren't in this I'm gonna be so [frick]ing dissappointed
CapFanLex005 - 2/26/2012, 11:44 AM

gannicus - 2/26/2012, 11:48 AM
mind games by scott this is iam sure there are more connections to the first film hell i saw a few in the first trailer.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/26/2012, 12:13 PM
Lets just wait for the movie and judge after we have seen it. :)
Armyshot - 2/26/2012, 1:01 PM
i've read a lot about this movie, didn't read anything of the xenomorphs being in this movie at all. So i didn't, haven't been, and wont be expecting them. I'm just expecting classic Ridley Scott film making...
acidbath - 2/26/2012, 1:11 PM
I know what's up but I won't ruin it....let's just say what do you think is the fire that gets stolen from the gods here?
SamHell - 2/26/2012, 1:53 PM
im thinking "movie of the summer"
headlopper - 2/26/2012, 4:03 PM
@acidbath- Don't do that! If you know sumthin' , post in succa!

You know, this reminds me of the time I was a kid and we had a Great Dane(that's a dog, not someone from Denmark with a big shlong) and I used to tease it at the dinner table by tempting it with a piece of meat...and then snatch it away at the last minute.

Don't be like me.
DeeAngil - 2/26/2012, 11:42 PM
Here's my thought; Ridley, U suck. LOL Got us all on a tangent. First off, PROMETHEUS is going to be the SHIZ. So look, Ridley is contradicting himself BIG TIME. I keep up with a lot about this movie. YES- we understand this is NOT a prequel. That this is fantastical new sci-fi entry that is going to blow the minds of fan boys world wide. Yet, to say that only connection PIERCE and this film has to ALIEN is Weyland-Yutani Corp? Um...Space Jockey, check (even though now its a SUIT? the first film CLEARLY they say "right through the bone," when they are inspecting the Jockey in the chair--bone, my friends, BONE) Um..."U" shaped ship crashing into planet (PROMETHEUS) looks oddly similar to foreign ship found by Nostromo crew in ALIEN. Does Ridley think we are all a bunch of BONE-heads? I know the film is going to blow us all away, but come now. Stop hashin and speak truths. lol
NeoBaggins - 2/27/2012, 4:33 AM
New monsters aye. Don't know what to think but I'm still interested in the film.
hoodedjester - 2/27/2012, 10:38 AM
He isn't gonna say - he would rather give us a whole bunch of speculation and false or maybe true answers because he wants us to go see the film and be surprised. Which I will blindly do because I am a lemming when it comes to Alien movies. There I said it.
BFGLOOM - 2/27/2012, 2:45 PM
ACIDBATH and BOSSWALSH got it right.... Do the research and look up the old scripts/ideas for Alien/StarBeast. Prometheus is a movie using those scrapped concepts! Their WILL be Xeno's.....BUT NOT AS WE'VE SEEN THEM. They will be shown in their NORMAL STATE before mixing with a host dna! On set spies said they are going to be bigger and almost a blue color. Its tied into Alien in many ways. The Jockey, the original planet of the Xeno's will be shown,Weyland merging with the Yutani Corp, and etc.
