The Darkside of Volkswagen

Remember that Darth Vader Volkswagen commercial that aired during the SuperBowl? Well Greenpeace, the environmental activism group has released their own take on it in order to expose the dark side of Volkswagen.

The first video is very funny but the second is just...well watch it yourself.

The group launched "The Dark Side of Volkswagen" campaign dedicated to exposing what Greenpeace calls the automaker's poor environmental record.

Volkswagen has put its most fuel efficient engines in a tiny percentage of vehicles, while dramatically increasing the price for consumers, Greenpeace said. The report claims that just 6 percent of Volkswagen's 2010 sales were of the company's most efficient models.

The Death Star shots look like they were lifted straight from Return of the Jedi. Is Lucasfilm endorsing VW and Greenpeace at the same time?
selinakyle - 6/29/2011, 12:44 PM
This goes out to the whiners :)

@CaptainProg

CO2 is CO2 ,genius, regardless of who produces it.

Science lessson...real basic...Plants thrive from Co2 and emit oxygen.

hey Captain Prog--- What weighs more a pound of feathers or a pound of lead?

answer: a ton of your environMental horse crap

You honestly believe that the huge amount crap that the recent Icelandic Volcano is continuing to spew is good for humans or animals...just because its natural?
kevberg - 6/29/2011, 1:23 PM
@teabag---- heheh...kudos !
TheGuillotine - 6/29/2011, 1:23 PM
@CaptainProg

You are dead wrong sir. And because of groups like Greenspace our economy is tanking due to overreaching power by the EPA.

When the dinosaurs roamed the Earth the CO2 levels were twice what it is today. Truth be known, plants breathe CO2 and become more abundant worldwide. Plants "exhale" oxygen, meaning more abundant life in mammals, reptiles, amphibians, etc. In other words, CO2 = life, just as much, if not more than oxygen. BTW, oxygen in it's pure form is just as deadly to humans as CO2.

Science lesson ended. Read a book and put down the weed.
Stumblin - 6/29/2011, 1:26 PM
Regardless of the emissions of a VW, VWs still blow donkey balls. Overly expensive to buy, maintain, and replace parts which aren't readily available at any general auto store.

Funny about this add, I'm wondering where the adds against cows are, they produce more CO2 than automobiles. That's right, farts.
Jonet - 6/29/2011, 1:31 PM
That was GREAT!! haha. They also did another commercial about Ken leaving Barbie recently. They are really inspired. Go Greenpeace!!

cool ad, stupid reason.
And, what a lot of people don't understand is that Global Warming is a natural process that was always going to occur, and we're just accelerating it. From what I can understand, although I'm not a scientist, is that in the same way we get Ice Ages every few million years, we also get a Global Warming every few million years, as sort of a counter balance. We just happen to be near (and by near I mean a few hundred thousands of years away from) the peak of a Global Warming.

As @kevberg said, plants thrive on CO2 just as we thrive on oxygen, and we produce it as part of the natural cycle of air. There is no 'natural' or 'man-made' CO2, it's a chemical compound, so it has the exact same structure either way, it is genetically identical. So, whether the CO2 is coming from our respiration, the exhaust of a car, a volcano or a cow's fart (which is high in CO2 and the more damaging Methane), all we're doing is accelerating a natural process.

What we should be worried about is using up fossil fuels, as they're finite resources, meaning once they're gone, we wont be getting them back (or at least, not for millions of years)

I love the original VW Star Wars add.
selinakyle - 6/29/2011, 1:58 PM
LMAO Tea!
Stumblin - 6/29/2011, 2:02 PM
I agree finding different sources for fuel, but also the majority of oil is used in beauty products, coloring plastics, plastics in general, pretty much anything you see that's man made has oil involved.
MrOldboy - 6/29/2011, 3:36 PM
Environmental argument aside, isnt greenpeace kind of mocking the kid in the vader costume? that poor kid probably thinks he did something wrong now by being in a car commercial.
THORION76 - 6/29/2011, 3:59 PM
Man made global warming is not a fact, and not all scientist's agree on it . There are hundred's of scientist's out there that say it is'nt true. The thing the decenting scientist's do agree on is that there are thing's happening inside the earth that are naturally changing the earth's climate. The sun is also producing major sunspot's that impact the earth and they say these sunspot's are heating the earth's atmosphere. There were 5 or 6 iceage's and three of them were confermed to not have been caused by earth impact event's. So all you SHEEPLE try to think and listen to all side's before you you go running off the cliff's.
SpiderFan35 - 6/29/2011, 4:47 PM
Clearly the debate over the environment and pollution will be solved today here on this CBM fansite.
Dmon - 6/29/2011, 4:48 PM
Global warming is a fraud intended to be used to tax our breathing. Since the dawn of man the powerful elite has been trying to figure out how to charge people for breathing. The Global Warming Agenda is about control, social engineering and politics, NOT SCIENCE!
SpiderFan35 - 6/29/2011, 4:49 PM
@tea and joker 7: LOL! Funny pics
@Stumblin: Amen, VW cars are a hot mess.
cookfreeordie - 6/29/2011, 4:55 PM
I have a VW. I love it. Fvck Greenpace. Fvck you VW haters.

(Thats how opposition posts are suppose to go, right?)
wavehunter - 6/29/2011, 4:58 PM
And the winner is?....George Lucas. Making money off of Star Wars anyway he can. Still drive my 67 Bus. Not a bad investment.
selinakyle - 6/29/2011, 5:10 PM
lol @ spiderfan35
Bodwulf - 6/29/2011, 6:17 PM
Wow! this may be the most concensus I have seen on a topic on CBM. Other than we like boobs.
helacaster - 6/29/2011, 7:08 PM
FACT: Greenpeace invented terrorism and they also murder babies!!

So, with that knowledge why would anyone support them? Its like suporting baby killings.

DOWN WITH GREENPEACE!!!!! whos with me?!?!
SpiderFan35 - 6/29/2011, 9:26 PM
@ cookfreeordie: Nicely done. Now I think someone is supposed to cut and paste some statistics about VW vehicles and then call you some names and possibly refer to your mother in a degrading way.
reverendjonnynemo - 6/30/2011, 2:17 AM
Eco-Terrorists, and very much hypocrits. If you see a Green Piece, kick im; hippies suck ass in any universe
Ichaos - 6/30/2011, 2:46 AM
Lame. I prefer green violence
SamHell - 6/30/2011, 5:44 AM
atleast it's not greenlantern
Godzillafart - 6/30/2011, 5:58 AM
*Sigh* I hate when CBM turns political, as many people whose comments I usually enjoy are revealed to be retarded. Teabag, your original comment is simply wrong. Link to one of dozens of sites which can explain it too you:

http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2011/06/28/3255476.htm?site=science&topic=enviro

Really, Tea. Turn off the FOX News...unless of course you like being lied to...and perhaps having your hair pulled by the corporations that are [frick]ing you up the a$$.

Repeat after me: "Science is not the enemy. Science is not the enemy."
cosmicstranger - 6/30/2011, 6:32 AM
Activism (any form or subject matter): Something that is known for degrading cognitive faculties (aka, thinking processes) does not appear to be recommended to take up.
JackBauer - 6/30/2011, 6:48 AM
Cute commercial, but only because of the kids.

[frick] Greenpiece! The Earth does go thru cycles just like ACira said, but it's not as bad as everyone is led to believe. Anyone that believes Al Gore or what the liberal scientific community spoon feeds them are [frick]ing idiots. Do a little research for yourself and you'll find out that most of these so called scientists are either fudging their data or spouting mere conjecture. [frick]ing sheep.

Here's some global warming for you

Godzillafart - 6/30/2011, 7:41 AM
@JackBauer. Science isn't liberal, it's based on empirical (that means observable, Jack) evidence, and the science on global warming is pretty clear. I’m not sure when the conservative movement in this country embraced ignorance as its defining characteristic, but sadly, you are a glowing example of it. Try to separate the research on climate change from Gore, as it has been going on for better than 50 years. Take your own advice and do a little research of your own. Anyone with the most basic knowledge of how the scientific community works understands that competing scientists would quickly expose scientists who “fudged their data”. Big business and the super wealthy are pulling your strings, Jack. The sheep here is you. Nice fart joke though.
sheebz - 6/30/2011, 8:04 AM
@jackbauer that gif is monumentally hilarious and gross at the same time lmao
SamHell - 6/30/2011, 9:18 AM
Awesome Jack
AC1 - 6/30/2011, 9:29 AM
@jack it looks like he's farting out flames, it's like a real life human torch!
And THAT makes it a CBM topic!
