Slashfilm have got two new stills from X-men: First Class as well as a candid interview with director Matthew Vaughn, where he tries to set the record straight about the first leaked photo.

On the highly critized leaked photo released a few days ago:
I freaked out on them yesterday. I don’t know where the hell that came from. I don’t think it’s a Fox image. It’s not a pre-approved image. When I found out, I said, what the f*** is this shit, and Fox is running around trying to figure out what happened as well. I agree. It’s like a bad photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didn’t reflect the movie. I was shocked when I saw it. I was like ‘Jesus Christ.

On trying to reassure fans:
I’m a fan of X-Men. We’re not bastardizing X-Men, I’m trying to get them back to being whole again.

And regarding the costumes:
The costumes are blue and yellow as well, because f*** it, lets take it back it the original. Also, by the way, those costumes are hardly in the movie. The main costumes are like these cool 60’s James Bond.

On the setting of the film:
Imagine the Cuban Missile crisis and discovering that mutants exist, both at the same time.” … “The actors are so great. Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are very very hard to replace. When I’m watching Fassbender and McAvoy you just think, it sort of reminds me of Daniel Craig doing Bond, you kind of forget there were other people playing him. And that’s what I feel about these two.

Regarding the tone of the film:
It’s definitely more serious and more realistic, and I think that’s something that had to happen. That’s my feeling about the world we live in right now. I think the glossy colorful superhero film sorta had its day. I think Batman Begins started it, Dark Knight, dare I say Kick-Ass was fun and it had some real pop to it, but at the same time we grounded it in reality as much as possible. I think that’s what the audience wants. And that why that image is more Fantastic Four than it is X-Men. And I say that with all due respect to the Fantastic Four team. That was then and this is now. It’s a different time. I mean, look at me — I’m not exactly mister light.

I actually posted like 10 minutes ago, just took a long time to come up. The more I see of this film, the more interested I get, certainly looks like a novel approach.
GrimeKid - 1/20/2011, 1:39 AM
Great news & fantastic pic of Magneto
toilntrouble - 1/20/2011, 1:39 AM
To do the yellow background use "blockquote"
lostsoul86 - 1/20/2011, 2:11 AM
fail i think ill go make my self feel better by drinking this beer and looking over the coachella line up which is awesome
GrimeKid - 1/20/2011, 2:48 AM
Fassbender said that he will don his original costume in the movie.(RED & PURPLE) So this isn't the final suit
Look closely it looks like he's on a tropical beach.
Maybe the sort of tropical beach that an X-Jet could crash on
Exiles - 1/20/2011, 3:08 AM
it looks like there using jim lee's helmet design FTW
RorMachine - 1/20/2011, 3:27 AM
Awesome pics. Great job Toil.
Ciaronious - 1/20/2011, 3:27 AM
@Grif ............finally we agree.....FAIL!
JohnTom88 - 1/20/2011, 3:40 AM
Red and Purple Helmet, not just plain gray silver...
Rango - 1/20/2011, 3:41 AM
looking forward to it.Though, I was always under the misconception that Xavier was bald since the beginning of the time :P..
RorMachine - 1/20/2011, 3:51 AM
Alex, just think about it. He and Xavier begin the film as friends, he is a part of the "first class", so he will be wearing a similar costume. Towards the end he and Xavier will have a falling out and he will become the villain and THEN sport his red n purple costume. Clear now?
evil40 - 1/20/2011, 3:54 AM
So far the only thing I like about this is magnetos helmet
darthbobtarkas - 1/20/2011, 4:06 AM
the helmet looks weirdly oversized. but other wise this looks great. my faith in this movie has been renewed.
TheDarkHornerIsRising - 1/20/2011, 4:12 AM
HOPE WE GET TO SEE HIM IN HIS OWN SUIT WITH THE CAPE ANS THAT THE HELMET LOOKS ODD WITH THE BLUE AND YELLOW SUIT
soforizo - 1/20/2011, 4:13 AM
The helmet looks pretty good... hate the yellow costume.
LuckyKyd - 1/20/2011, 4:17 AM
Gotta say Fassbender looks badass as Magneto!!! And good to hear that the group photo was not an official one, even though a lot of things pointed in that direction... I mean seriously Beast really looked like a Na'vi sporting a bad hairdo! :P
TheDarkHornerIsRising - 1/20/2011, 4:18 AM
PLUS I WANNA SEE WHAT JAME MCAVOY LOOKS LIKE BALD
Gregobi - 1/20/2011, 4:24 AM
Vaughn won't F this up, he knows what he's doing.
the1egend1ives - 1/20/2011, 4:25 AM
The Helmet is cool, but it looks retarded on the yellow costume.
soforizo - 1/20/2011, 4:26 AM
I hate to admit it, but i've enjoyed all X-men movies so far, especially part 2 forward. I even enjoyed the flawed Origins; so I'm likely to enjoy this one.
lmind - 1/20/2011, 4:28 AM
i feel like theres no way they can make this right for the most part of us..
we all know we gonna watch it anyway
ClaireLannister2016 - 1/20/2011, 4:33 AM
Hmm....that Magneto dude is actually pretty hot. Now I have a reason to watch this movie. ;)
Duhdaduh - 1/20/2011, 4:34 AM
though i believe captain america and thor will be the best of the cbm's coming out this summer, i think this movie will be the one that suprises everyone the most, turning out to be actually quite good
Cranburn - 1/20/2011, 4:37 AM
I'm really starting to get fed up with the trivial nitpicking on this movie... it's pathetic and I hope I'm not the only one.
"The costumes are crap", "Sebastian Shaw doesn't have side burns", "Xaviers not bald", "The makeup looks shit"... "The [frick]in' helmet is too big!".
Seriously, can we not just wait and see the movie before we start criticising it?
Denn1s - 1/20/2011, 4:51 AM
i hope it will be more magneto-xavier based and the rest of the x-men are background characters. fassbender looks amazing. if it was about the original five i would more up to it. i am sure the movie will be great, but it will be a horrible adaptation.
Watcher - 1/20/2011, 4:55 AM
ok so

THAT is NOT a "dorky looking helmet". I actually rather like it
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/20/2011, 4:58 AM
Ror@ Yeah clear now!:D That pic just looks so weird!

So is Sebastian Shaw the main villain in this movie or Magneto?
marvel72 - 1/20/2011, 4:59 AM
the helmet looks good.

shame the film won't,f*ck you fox.
croniccris - 1/20/2011, 5:01 AM
cool helmet... but they still are worrying me with all this talk of having to do everything on the go....

i hope its a good movie but i get this feeling like the final product is gonna be rushed and not done properly

i think people are gonna see this film n be like "it was good i just wish they could of took their time with it and done it right and it would of been so much better"
Shaman - 1/20/2011, 5:06 AM
The Fass is lookin' [frick]in' FABULOUS, with his intense face in his helmet!!! [frick] YEAH!!! :))
MrSuperheromoviefan - 1/20/2011, 5:16 AM
This is stupid!
The helmet it's too much like the comics and looks fake. Also it's too big.
This movie is going to be a huge failure!
tocap - 1/20/2011, 5:17 AM
i'm with you cranburn! i'll wait till i see the final product before judging. so far i admit everything looks cool.
marvel72 - 1/20/2011, 5:20 AM
my excitment level for this film is at 0.
megabatfan - 1/20/2011, 5:21 AM
Helmets a tad 2 big IMO. I really liked Ian McKellen's helmet, but lets face it...It's set in the sixties, the helmet really wouldn't be the same 40 years ago. Hope by the end when he falls out with Xavier he paints it red & purple, & has a more traditional "Magneto" suit
GUNSMITH - 1/20/2011, 5:22 AM
OK IM NOW INTRIGUED

BigK1337 - 1/20/2011, 5:23 AM
Ah feck, my feelings for this movie are officially indifferent. I guess I have to go see the movie to determine if its crap or not (and hopefully it isn't X-Men Origins: Wolverine crap).
MovieTheaterLad - 1/20/2011, 5:24 AM
Thank God you guys aren't whining about this helmet like so many did for Thor's.
GUNSMITH - 1/20/2011, 5:25 AM
JohnTom88 - 1/20/2011, 5:39 AM
Hey MrSuperheromoviefan

Fassbender > Reynolds in terms of acting.
Geo808 - 1/20/2011, 5:57 AM
I still have mixed feeling about this film, but one thing I am certain of
Michael Fassbender is an excellent actor and will own as the master of magnetism.
dahamma - 1/20/2011, 5:57 AM
ima get this movie from the red box, or shoot maybe online. There's no way im busting out not even 10 dollars to see this. And whats with him talking about hte costumes? If anything thats the best part of the film, I sure hope to GOD they dont look anything like James Bond. Thats the problem with all the X FIlms in my opinion, they try to be something their not. well with some chracters that is
Orphix - 1/20/2011, 5:59 AM
Landsdown5 @ Wow - in 40's years it seems that Magneto became left handed!!! :oP

And I for one am very much looking forward to the next chapter in the X-men MOVIE universe. ;o)
Gmoney84 - 1/20/2011, 6:00 AM
I'm diggin' the helmet. Looks really good.
StrangerX - 1/20/2011, 6:00 AM
This looks like some shit on the syfy channel..PASSSSS
StevilNYC - 1/20/2011, 6:08 AM
@Lansdowne5 Thanks for that side-by-side. I was just about to do it lol

Fassbender looks cool with the helmet but the x-men color sorta ruins it.
StevilNYC - 1/20/2011, 6:10 AM
BTW I'm starting to wonder if we all have a fetish for helmets here.
SeaSerpentine - 1/20/2011, 6:11 AM
@StrangerX agreed.
JackBauer - 1/20/2011, 6:12 AM
It's cool to see the helmet from the comics in real life but at the same time it just doesn't work in real life. It just seems really odd. McKellen's helmet worked on film, this doesn't.

@SeeyouAnnetea - Girl, which high school and what class were you in? I'm having prom night flashbacks ;)
JohnTom88 - 1/20/2011, 6:14 AM
Um, you're going to say "Helmet", right JackBauer? :)
YourMomNaked - 1/20/2011, 6:15 AM
Hehehe. I remember all the "love" for the Smallville JSA costumes ;D
