Captain Canuck coming to Cinemas?

According to the co-creator of the character, we may soon see a live action version of the character in the future.

Over at Hero Complex, Richard Comely the co-creator of Captain Canuck, has told the blog that the character is close to making it onto the big screen. For those unfamiliar with the character, courtesy of Wikipedia:

"Captain Canuck is one of the most popular Canadian comic book superheros. Three characters have worn the maple leafed costume of Captain Canuck. Described as a cross between Captain America and Flash Gordon, the first Captain Canuck patrols Canada in the (then) futuristic world of 1993, where "Canada had become the most powerful country in the world." He was the costumed agent of the CSIS (Canadian Secret Intelligence Services)."

According to Comely:
He is close to striking a deal with a Canadian production company to make a $15-million live-action version of the comic. He would not say which company he is in discussions with.


If the movie does end up happening, Comely says the character will provide a fresh take on the genre:
If the movie deal does come to fruition, Comely said Captain Canuck will surprise fans accustomed to the fiery violence and high-tech gizmos that define the American masked-men movies. “I wanted him to be as real as possible,” Comely said in a phone interview from Ontario. “He’s polite, by the way. Just a little bit gentler.”


Which iteration will appear if the movie does go ahead is still unclear:
Comely said it’s unclear which Captain Canuck would appear in the movie.


Certainly interesting news, a small budget Canadian superhero movie.

15 million sounds about right.Remember, this is an indie character who, as far as I can tell, only possesses increase strength and speed.It's not a special effects heavy movie.And it's being filmed in Canada.15 million in Canada is a helluva lot more than it is in the USA.That's why so many American sci-fi/fantasy shows film there.

Anyway, if they made action movies like Kick-Ass for $28 million, Legion for $26 million and The Loses for $25 million, I can see them filming a pretty good one for $15 million.

It's not like they're going to have to waste the budget on any overpriced Hollywood actors or director.

are u guys serious laughing at the budget. first Alien movie only had a budget of $11 million, The Terminator had a budget of $6 million, Shaun of the Dead had a budget of $4 million, 500 Days of Summer had a budget of $7.5 million, etc.

cause the budget is low does not mean they can not make something good out of it. only the director and writters who are the one that can create something good out of a low budget.

He's so obviously a poor rip off of the Vindicator from Alpha Flight and Captain America. Shame shame shame.

@IronicMan: I'm not hating on Canadian superheroes (Wolverine, Alpha Flight, DeadPool), but when any character is a rip-off rather than an influenced character, that's like breaking the Ten Comic book Commandments. LOL.

and The New York Yankees are the greatest American team ever. :-D

The name "Captain Canuck" I think will not sit well with Americans. Therefore, if this movie is released here in America, I feel that the title should be changed. LOL

@IronicMan: see thats the point first we buy Canada for three toothpicks, then we buy Mexico for 5 paso's. then over a few years we fix up both countries and start creating more and more states eventually we have close to a hundred states and we have the entire North America continent under the US flag, we would be a powerhouse, and it would create new jobs and get this ecconomy back up and running. its genious
