Will Arnett & Michael Shannon Cast in Jonah Hex

Arnett and Shannon are the newest members of the Jonah Hex cast. Plus a release date, and when they begin filming!
Will Arnett and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon are joining the cast of Jonah Hex, a supernatural/ action/ Western/ comic book adaption/ musical (just kidding) based on the DC Comics character.

The Premise so far is:

It's the story of Hex (Josh Brolin), a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (John Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of the undead to liberate the South.

Arnett, who has done mostly comedies, will play a Union soldier who enlists Hex and is blindsided by the dirty fighting style of his enemies.

Shannon plays Doc Cross Williams, the bizarre ringleader of a brutal gladiator circus event. The character might appear in sequels.

Jonah Hex is directed by Jimmy Hayward, and also stars Megan Fox.

Arnett has the upcoming films "When in Rome" with Kristen Bell and the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced "G-Force," both Disney. He is also known for “Arrested Development”.

Shannon received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role in "Revolutionary Road." (a must see)

Jonah Hex is scheduled to begin shooting this month in Louisiana and slated to hit theatres on August 6th, 2010.

The more I hear about this movie the more I want to see it!

Shannon was good in World Trade Center. This movie sounds interesting in all of the casting except for Fox. She should stand out in the old west like cellphone....

Yes, she's hot.

This movie sounds f$#@ing awesome! Josh Brolin, Malkevich, and Arnet are all awesom! I know Arnet is know for comedy but the guy can litterally do anything with his voice. And beside. Racist undead zombie brought to life by a voodoo priest getting shot in the head by Jonah Hex can't lose.
This sounds just like the comic books. An over the top grindhouse style spahgetti western. F%$$ing awesome!

I have an odd fixation with Western's, not the old black and whites John Wayne stuff. But the more modern Western films ("3:10 to Yuma", "Tombstone", etc.) are so awesome. And I love comics, so I guess this is a match made in heaven for me.

I love westerns too.... i really like how all the phillipino friends of mine get the chance to play an Indigenous being (injun) and be like , yeah that was awesome to show the truth of that story.... ya know cuz who cares if wolverine and his type had crazy hair. Gawd i hope that copy was just a bad hype print and then i will not have to wish you all into out-of-existence . and westerns n' such fer that reason. imagine nazi germany after a win, making movies and blaming the brittish for their ...... awe F' it ! you know what i mean.

There were a couple of pictures on the front page of the Times-Picayune this morning showing a couple of shots of the set for this film, which is going to be filming here in New Orleans. I found one of the pictures at http://photos.nola.com/tpphotos/2009/04/set_building_1.html

Not sure if the other one is up or not- looks like an old Mexican church or something. Look on nola.com if you have time to really search for this.

The entire Civil War wasn't entirely over Slavery, gestlmutant. There were Northerners that didn't like the way the South was being dictated to by the North. And they went South to fight for the Confederacy. And it was totally a State's rights issue to them. They really didn't regard the plight of slaves so much as the concern for tyranny from Washington to the States. I suppose from that angle you could call it racist. I just don't see it cut and dry racist. That's why I felt compelled to comment. Also, I believe Jonah played for the South, if I remember correctly. He had a Outlaw Josey Wales kind of story, right Hawk?
I love Westerns too, btw. Old and New.

Myth, Check out The Searchers with John Wayne. One of his more "darker" performances. Classic!

Some other fine Westerns The Searchers- Amazing. Voted as the best western ever made by the AFI and I wholeheartedly agree, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Winchester 73, Stagecoach- great movie probably started the classic Western genre,Red River, Lonesome Dove,Open Range, High Plains Drifter. I could go on for pages.

@Phinehas. He kinda does.
When he was a boy his dad got drunk and sold Jonah to Apaches as a slave in exchange for a pile of furs. Hex grows up with the Apaches eventualy leaves (alot happened while he was with them) Gets engaged, his girl gets scalped. He eventually joins the Confederacy. He is the one who shot Stonewall Jackson by mistake. He surrenders to the Union after the Emancipation Proclamation. The Yankees slaughter his unit and falsely blame him. He later begins his bounty hunting carreer.

HAWK out.

Sorry no zombies in this movie that's a persistant rumor that's total bull no voodoo practitioner no raising the dead. that's all based on a bad script from the late 90's.
the villian is none other than the man with the Eagle topped cane aka Quentin Turnball who blames the death of his son on Jonah and seeks revenge...
