Warner Brothers recently confirmed that production on "Green Lantern" would not take place in Australia for economic reasons. So where will the Earth based scenes be filmed?

In an interview with The Geek Files, Martin Campbell confirms the rumor that he will film in New Orleans.

He goes on to admit: "It's a very interesting city...with a damn good tax rate.”

For those that fear an Earth-based film, don't fret. "He's the only superhero to my knowledge who regularly goes to another planet." Campbell says. "Superman and Batman were essentially locked into a particular city. The Lantern isn't so Earthbound."

He recently discussed the enormous important of CGI to bring the Green Lantern's story to life. He also discussed the significance of certain aspects of the mythology, for instance, the ring: "It's energized by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe…From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane."

Shooting on "Green Lantern" is scheduled to start in New Orleans, Louisiana in April, 2010 in anticipation of a June 2011 release date. Actor Ryan Reynolds is set to play the lead role.

Great article Multi! Can't wait for this movie!

Pity it won't film in Australia, but I'm willing to forget all about it so long as we still get the movie!

As the director of 2 of the best James Bond films, with Casino Royale being a successful reboot of the franchise, I believe he is more than qualified to hold reigns of the Green Lantern project.

Well end of the day, this could become the biggest Superhero movie ever made, cant wait!

Instantclassic: Amen dude. Casino Royale was a simply amazing movie. It proved Campbell could generate terrific performances, awesome action scenes (that parkour fight at the beginning is enough to show that), intense drama, and light humor. He's going to do an excellent Green Lantern.

JOSH @ I'm talking as in EPIC, space EPIC, like STAR WARS not the biggest grosser!!

Seriously though, i think CAP THOR & GL are going to be all Big movies!! Dunno about SPIDEY 4 though yet?!

LEEE777 - 11/7/2009, 2:32 PM
What MULTI Just said! ^^^^^ ; D

You've gotta remember @ MULTI @ Josh is not a big DC fan, he should really give the GL comics ago though lol.

Still cant really believe we're getting a GL movie or THOR or CAP, its about time lol!!!

I'd have to agree with LEEE here. Although he gets orgasmically excited with every gentle breeze of news on a CBM, this may actually boost SciFi to a new level of cool.

Tyler, staying in the states may turn into a blessing in disguise.

InTylerWeTrust - 11/7/2009, 2:38 PM
I think Cap will be a smaller movie in scale, so I don't think it'll compare to Green Lantern (in that sense only, not in quality). Thor is going to give GL a run for its money, but I think GL will come out as the bigger movie.

Phinehas: I'm fine with it being in the states, I just thought Australia would have been maybe a better location.

what part did you audition for?

Under that mask, you look more like Jordan than Ryan Reynolds. But can you act??? LOL

Tyler, I'm suspicious of LA, myself. I figure Georgia may be a better locale for Coast City. But as Campbell indicated, its the taxes that made it cheap. He's using his brain. I'm not too worried.

JoshWilding - 11/7/2009, 2:49 PM
LEE/MULTI: My mistake guys! :) I definitely agree that this movie will more than likely be epic in scale but Im so excited for Thor and Cap's movies even if there was going to be new Superman and Batman movies (characters I'm far more familiar with in comparison to GL) I'd still be more excited for Cap and Thor! I guess thats because Im 110% Marvel, lol!

@joshw24 You realize Captain America and Thor are coming out the same year right? ;)

You realize Spider-man 4 and The Dark Knight sequel are coming out as well.

2011: The year of many superhero films.

MULTI @ Cool PIC and i got my fingers crossed 4 ya!!

Hey just remember the little ppl! ; D

JoshWilding - 11/7/2009, 3:32 PM
Timerider84: Yeah, I know about Spider-Man 4 but I cant get excited over that until I know who the villain is...I dont think I could go and watch it if Morbius will end up being the villain! Are you sure that theres going to be TDK sequel that year though..? I havent heard any reports saying its out in 2011!
Killian

@ Phinehas Suspicious of LA? Yeah you SHOULD BE!
Phinehas
Phinehas - 11/7/2009, 3:37 PM
Why is that Killian? Are you from Louisiana?

Before Katrina, New Orleans had one of the, if not the highest murder rates in the country. I don't know what it is now, but I doubt the crime rate went down there. This is why I'm suspicious. The production crew may succumb to being looted during the night.

God "2012" looks like a sh*t movie.

I agree with Josh about Spidey 4. After the total assfest that was 3, I have to get some cold, hard evidence before I jump back onto Raimi's side again.

teabag: It looks worse than worse than sh*t :)

Hopefully it totally bombs beyond repair so we don't get another disaster movie from Roland Emmerich.

I mean, if I wanted a movie consisting of disaster after disaster after disaster, I would watch GI Joke. The performances and plot were all disasters after all ;)
Killian
Killian - 11/7/2009, 4:34 PM
@Phinehas Yeah I live a little south of NO. Katrina didn't help the crime rate that much but it's not really that bad as long as you know where not to go.

That G1 Prime is on STEROIDS! I wish the new animated series was like the original but with a stronger story like Justice League, He Man, and the new animated GI Joe movie.

I do hope this film is good and does well, not necessarily because I'm a big Green Lantern fan, I'm not really but because its success would signal the opening of the flood gate for The Flash.

DC Entertainment need to get a move on, I've seen snails crossing a puddle of molasses go faster.

I live in uptown New Orleans very close to where Warner bros just bought up a huge amount of warehouse district land and have seen sets already being built. As soon as I can I will try to take some photos and post them up here.

Btw @ killian the only thing I contest in your statements that I would like to clear up is that "smell" is no longer a presence the city is now very well taken care of by SDT (a local sewAge and waste company) they pressure wash the streets downtown every night. The old pre-Katrina smell of New Orleans is no longer. This city is cleaning up and I for o e am very happy this move is being filed here. New Orleans deserves this.
Take care my friends till next time!
