What will be the most memorable part of Green Lantern?

Ryan Reynolds, the man set to portray Hal Jordan, believes seeing the character out of costume will be just as memorable as seeing him soaring through space.

Josh Horowitz of MTV Movies recently asked Ryan Reynolds what aspect of the Green Lantern movie has him excited to play the lead role of Hal Jordan. Reynolds has this to say:

"I think you walk away from this first film, and the moments that you remember and the moments that mean so much to you, not unlike 'Iron Man,' are the moments where the guy's not in the suit,

That's a tough thing for them to get right, and that's something that they did get right. You see why this guy's in the suit, and that's what's most interesting to me; not that he's in the suit, but why."

For those of you wondering if we'll see Hal wearing jeans and a flight jacket for most of the movie, there's no need to worry. Reynolds explained a bit further:

"It is [an origin story] to a certain degree, but it's not a labored origin story, where the movie [truly] begins in the third act, The movie starts when it starts. We find out Hal is the guy fairly early on, and the adventure begins."

MPP - I don't know about you guys, but I'm paying to see Hal is his green suited glory. Green Lantern: First Flight nailed the tone. Hang the jacket up early and get to ring slinging!

Like I've always said, if this movie follows the comic Green Lantern: Secret Origin, it will be a monster hit.

Good to know they wont have a hour long origin intro like the first Hulk movie.
IsaiahBradley - 11/30/2009, 12:54 PM
I'm really hoping this will be good. Not a huge fan of Jordan, more a fan of Rayner.
necrosage2005 - 11/30/2009, 12:55 PM
Hmmm, this sounds like we're going to see him out of costume for a lot of the movie maybe??? Hmmm not good.

Well atleast we've got the TRUE GREEN LANTERN (HAL JORDAN) like it should be for GL 1!!

Lets just hope REYNOLDS don't [frick] it up and use his TRADEMARK SMILE or one liners and this will be SPACE EPIC stuff!!!
LEEE777 - 11/30/2009, 12:55 PM
P.S. Love the Cookie Monster in the back of the 1st pic.
necrosage2005 - 11/30/2009, 12:56 PM
P.S. Thats not cookie monster, thats the movie version of KILWOG!!! ; D

I'm with you @ MUTLI @ Hang that jacket up early and get to [frick]ing ring slinging!

LEEE777 - 11/30/2009, 12:58 PM
Awesome, an origin showcase for about 1/3 of the movie, then it kicks into high gear and goes full on epic in space. Sounds pretty much perfect for the first GL movie.

I know quite a few people hate him as GL, but Ryan's going to be a great Hal IMO. He's a great actor, and Martin Campbell's directing him. Win-win in my book.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/30/2009, 1:03 PM
yes... I AM paying to see the green suited glory. Knowing me, probably MULTPLE times!

Every word I hear about this movie is fricking slick and SICK!

Not spending too much time on the origin? Damn... somebody on this project is thinking.
DarthMulder - 11/30/2009, 1:07 PM
@ lee hahaha dude dont joke about that being kilwog it probly is
Roscoe182 - 11/30/2009, 1:07 PM
This film wont happen!

ROSCOE @ Heh heh heh! ; P

TYLER @ Fingers crossed dude!!
LEEE777 - 11/30/2009, 1:13 PM
The movie sounds great even though I know bugger all about the character, lol! :)

My version of this article was up 10mins before this appeared on the main page though... ;(
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 1:15 PM
I just wanna see that FIRST trailer!
SHHH - 11/30/2009, 1:17 PM
@Darth: That's what I'm talking about :) I'll be sold on the effects once I see some images of the constructs.

@TheGlove: Sorry bud, it is happening.

@josh: Actually, your article was posted after mine. If you want proof just look at the article number on the address bar. Yours is 12313, mine is 12311.

@LEEE: Have you seen Ryan Reynolds in either The Amityville Horror or Chaos Theory? Those are his two best non-comedic performances and showcase his dramatic side very well.

If you've only seen his comedies, it's hard to judge his acting range.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 1:20 PM
MULTI: Huh, really? My browser doesnt always update right away so my mistake! :)
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 1:22 PM
Multi: There is also The Nines and Smokin' Aces too.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/30/2009, 1:34 PM
i cant wait to see the oa setting and the battery but the sinestro turning to the yellow light and battling the guardians and hal is what im waiting for...i hope we see the qward dealers and the manhunters...
Anil Rickly - 11/30/2009, 1:36 PM
Rayner was just killed, Necro. I think this movie will rock the block! Even in a recession it will conquer all others. Now where's talks of Flash and WW?
Phinehas - 11/30/2009, 1:37 PM
I really hope this movie does well and Ryan doesn't ruin it.
GuyFawkes - 11/30/2009, 1:38 PM
I think the most memorable aspect of this film will be that, like Predators, the people had the brains and the vision to put this story happening at least partially soemwhere else besides Earth.

Seeing this dude zip around the universe, hob nobing with alien races and non humans... THAT apect broadens this movie from being just another super hero movie to being more like Star Wars meets Superman. It will be wilder and more amazing
DarthMulder - 11/30/2009, 1:39 PM
this sounds like it could be ace cant wait for a trailer..

Reynolds was good in amityville
Roscoe182 - 11/30/2009, 1:40 PM
Very pithy my yolked out friend! I think you're right.
Phinehas - 11/30/2009, 1:41 PM
i cant wait for the Green Lantern movie.

jazzman - 11/30/2009, 1:52 PM
Phinehas, SHIT! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!? I've been buisy the last few months, so I haven't kept up. Eventhough that SUCKS I know that his death won't be for long, after all, this is a comic book. They always find a way to bring the hero/villain back from the dead.

The best GL with the coolest costume!
kyle Rayner Pictures, Images and Photos
necrosage2005 - 11/30/2009, 1:59 PM
I am so excited about this movie. My only worry is that Ryan has a very light voice and when I think of Hal I hear the old 70's Superfriends voice, that really deep kick ass voice. Thats what I am really worried about. That and Ryan is a "funny" guy and Hal is very serious.
Matowar - 11/30/2009, 2:07 PM
I'm not entirely sold on Reynolds yet. I don't want to beat a dead horse but Fillion was born for that role.

Please let this be good!!
Lanceloco - 11/30/2009, 2:20 PM
I'd really like to get a look at the costume for this movie. I wonder how faithful it will be.

WeaponX - 11/30/2009, 2:25 PM
"You see why this guy's in the suit, and that's what's most interesting to me; not that he's in the suit, but why."

YES!!!!

Producers of any upcoming Superman reboot TAKE NOTE!

I love GL but I hope that the movie isn't like FIRST FLIGHT. They were only on Earth for like two seconds in that movie and there was little to no exposition.
They never explained how Jordan just magically knew how to use the ring. And it was really stupid how he just took all of that intergalactic crap in stride like it was no big deal.

gibbyblaylock - 11/30/2009, 2:29 PM
kool
flames809 - 11/30/2009, 2:39 PM
MULTI @ Yeah i have seen the new AMITYVILLE! That why i think he'll do good, but as this is a comic book movie im a lil afraid he wont take it so seriously thats all!

Fingers crossed he an the GL crew will!
LEEE777 - 11/30/2009, 2:46 PM
multi- you got that right I can't wait to see him
in the suit! I really liked the movie
First Flight and I hope they do it
(somewhat) like that!

I think the first half-hour should be the "origin" where he's wearing the flight jacket and jeans and the rest all in green lantern glory!
peterparker420 - 11/30/2009, 2:51 PM
@LEEE: Well that's why he's an actor :) I don't think I need to mention the Michael Keaton/Batman reference.

@gibby: Did you read Green Lantern: Secret Origin by Geoff Jonhs?

If this movie follows that story pane for pane it will be epic.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 3:00 PM
Can't wait.
Bandrews1 - 11/30/2009, 3:02 PM
Secret Origins is spectacular. It would be a perfect first act to the film.

Ryan seems to be taking the role seriously, from the sparse interviews about the role, he seems pretty educated with the character and excited for the film, so I highly doubt he won't take it seriously.

InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/30/2009, 3:16 PM
Ryan Reynolds will totally ruin this film. Im telling all of you that we will need a reboot after this.

SAM WORTHINGTON FOR HAL JORDON!!!!!!!!!
Ozymandias - 11/30/2009, 3:26 PM
Ok, Ozy. That must be a joke cause Whisperington hasn't proved himself yet.
Phinehas - 11/30/2009, 3:31 PM
@Ozy: Sam Worthington? Really? What movie has he proven himself in? None. He doesn't have ONE movie under his belt of any genre that carried. If you can name one movie he's been in that proves he can portray the emotional depth Hal needs I'll be surprised.

You don't think that's a huge risk for WB's first DC superhero movie not based on Batman or Superman?

Ryan Reynolds isn't my first or second choice for the role of Hal, but he a plethora of leading roles that showcase his talent as well as bring in big box office numbers.

MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 3:33 PM
@Phin: Dammit, you beat me to it again! Curses!!
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 3:34 PM
Phinehas: I prefer Whispery Worthington, or Unworthington, etc. ;)

Multi: Well said.

Chris Pine was my first choice for Hal, but Ryan will still do great.

Worthington for Carol Ferris :)
InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/30/2009, 3:40 PM
all costumes shown are really decent...the kyle rayner costume is the best...most modern and edgy...the 'ion' costume is the one they should choose...
pine would be best for GL but reynolds can act serious when not joking or trying to make a romantic film so i have faith in him...i hate how he kept bigging up baraka-pool though...even after he knew they facked it up...
and yes rayner died...but im sure he will rise as a black lantern again...
KNEEL BEFORE GEOFF JOHNS!!!!!!!!!!
Anil Rickly - 11/30/2009, 3:46 PM
OZY: So you want Sam Worthington as GL as well as Cap? Let me guess - Zack Snyder should direct both of those movies as well right? ;P
JoshW - 11/30/2009, 3:53 PM
Sorry dude, didn't mean to steal your thunder.
Phinehas - 11/30/2009, 3:54 PM
Ryan Reynolds, for sure
brazilianbatman - 11/30/2009, 4:02 PM
is GL set to be a triology?

brazilianbatman - 11/30/2009, 4:03 PM
will they only make Gl with Hal Jordan?
brazilianbatman - 11/30/2009, 4:04 PM
Why a triology (or trilogy for that matter)??? Make it a serial! Hal Jordan has a great story that could span many many films. That would be better than just 3!!!
Phinehas - 11/30/2009, 4:07 PM
What a stupid title to this thread.
JohnClayBurchett - 11/30/2009, 4:16 PM
i have confidence in Ryan i believe he will personify who Hal Jordan is but all he has to do is lose the smirk on his face and high pitched voice then we have our hal jordan
Gr8Valkyrie - 11/30/2009, 4:41 PM
you guys are right the "secret Origin" arc would be perfect to translate into a movie!

JOSH- I know you don't read DC but you should read
GL Secret Origin to get you prepped before the
movie! I think it's a 6 or 7 part arc and it
really was EPIC!
peterparker420 - 11/30/2009, 4:42 PM
Good stuff Poni, info is coming a bit faster about this and Thor, hopefully some stills to follow soon.

I was doubtful about RR..and still am, but I have seen the guy act up a storm so Im not worried exactly, I just think there are other actors that could have done more with it. But, Im sure we will be back on here after the movie comes out saying how we couldn't imagine anyone else playing GL!
RorMachine - 11/30/2009, 4:46 PM
@multipurposeponi@ in case you didnt see this on the other article i posted it on.....

"@multipurposeponi@ is just doing what he did on that modern warfare 2 article saying shit just to wind everyone up into arguing about it!!its weird that this "source" only tells him things AFTER theyve already been reported in some way here..for example someone making up the donnel story and then the recent article about hawkeye

do you just like the attention or something???"

thats how much all the bs rumours you keep starting pi$$ me off!!! :o(
FAD - 11/30/2009, 4:49 PM
@Rorschach01 dude i totally agree
Gr8Valkyrie - 11/30/2009, 4:51 PM
@Ror: I hope stuff keeps coming out, I'm running low on editorial material LOL

@FAD: And what rumors might those be? Please be specific and feel free to quote me.

I've never fabricated info and tried to play it off as being legitimate news. Perhaps it's just your perception of what I've written.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 4:59 PM
@multipurposeponi@

The same source that told me Chris O'Donnell is a top contender to play Captain America just told me that the role of Hawkeye is being shopped around as a top espionage S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and a close friend of Nick Fury. That unfortunately sounds alot like Ultimate Hawkeye to me.

MultiPurposePoni - 11/29/2009, 6:36 PM

.....is just 1 example
FAD - 11/30/2009, 5:09 PM
@FAD: And how exactly is that false information if it was what I was told? I never said that the person I spoke with wasn't full of sh*t, on the contrary I said not to take the info to heart unless it becomes an official press release.

Being that it is a rumor, I did not want to create an article about it. Instead I posted the info in the comments section of several articles. How is it invalid or wrong?

Did you fail to read this part:

"I recently made friends with someone in New York who works at a major comic company. Unfortunately, I don't ask him questions from a journalistic standpoint, so I can't go into detail (he's already warned me). I mentioned the Cap info earlier this week, and I just found out the Hawkeye info tonight.

The guy you're talking about posted that B.S. article about two months ago. He admitted making it up. The info I received was regarding casting discussions taking place this month.

I'm not one to trust a source right off the bat, but I'm not going to discredit him because his position work allows him access to this kind of information. I also speak to him directly on the phone and in person, so it's not an internet rumor. He doesn't work for a studio, though, so it could very well be meaningless. I just thought I'd share the info I was told.

You also have to understand the way Hollywood works in regards to casting. I'm still learning the ropes, but I already know it's a fickle business. For example, when the rumor about Stuart Townsend came out playing Fandral I called his agent directly (his publicist wasn't available) to validate the information. He flat out denied it was true. Three days later, it's officially announced that he's playing Fandral.

The only casting news that holds ANY validity is from an official press release, anything else is just conjecture. Only time will tell if it's true or not. "

As for the Modern Warfare 2 article, please tell me what I said on there that gives you the understanding that I create false info. You're saying that my quote you posted here is just one example, so what are the others?

You seem to be the only person that has a problem with what I said. Like I said earlier, perhaps it's your perception that's the problem.

MultiPurposePoni - 11/30/2009, 5:10 PM
And heerrreee we GO!!!!
Hawksblueyes - 11/30/2009, 5:12 PM
Yo Fad, not trying to interject myself into this.. although I guess thats exactly what Im doing! But someone that posts various pics of herself flaunting her..assets:)..may want to be careful about accusing someone of attention seeking..can come across just a little pot and kettle if you get me!
RorMachine - 11/30/2009, 5:18 PM
Well, that didn't last long.
Hawksblueyes - 11/30/2009, 5:59 PM
I guess it didn't. Maybe she couldn't find any other quotes of mine to argue over :/ Oh well

At least he isn't going on like whatever clown posted that Brian Blessed was officially cast as Odin.
That REALLY sucked! party foul!

Multi has let us know the info is still somewhat in doubt.

That's good enough clarification on the quality of the info, really.
DarthMulder - 11/30/2009, 6:29 PM
I cant wait for this movie. I LOVED First Flight. Hope that the live action will be similar to it.

if you are that's awesome! good for you!
are you still an MP? just wondering.

I'm trying to get into film editing i think I

it's in "fan-fic" and called
"a tribute to clark and lana" I know smallville
is not you're think but check it out.
I know that editing movies is FAR different
than making "music themed slide shows" but hey
I'm a noob. be on the look out for my new video

anyone else think Ryan Reynolds would be better suited as Guy Gardener rather than Hal Jordan?

That said, I think he will be really good as Hal, and I'm excited about this film. But it's gonna cost BIG money to get right, and I wonder if they can get the kind of money needed for a character little known outside of comic circles. Maybe if Avatar is a ground breaking as everyone is saying it will be, then 3D will take off and we will get a good GL corps!

I've said before that I thought he would be better suited as the flash, but that's me.
