Taylor Swift to Play Supergirl?

The Grammy award winner may be in the running to star in a Supergirl movie and TV series.

That's right, rumor has it that studio bosses want Taylor Swift to portray Kara Zor-El, most commonly known as Supergirl, in a new live-action endeavor.

An unnamed source spoke with Undercover.com about the reason behind the possible casting choice:

"Hollywood is short of female heroes and the time is right for a new Supergirl."

"A number of young stars are being mentioned for the title role in a 'Supergirl’ movie and possible TV spin-off and Taylor is top of that list. She has all the right elements to be a positive role model to young girls."

Swift's only acting credit so far is from guest starring on Saturday Night Live. He first venture into feature films will be Valentine's Day, playing the role of Samantha Kenny.



The character of Supergirl first appeared in comic books in 1959. Actress Helen Slater portrayed the character in the 1984 'Supergirl’ movie, which was a critical and box office flop.

MPP - I think Taylor has tremendous talent as a singer, musician and songwriter. In my opinion, she's very attractive in a 'girl next door' kind of way. That being said, is this really the first major role that an unproven acting hopeful should take? Especially with a comic character that mainstream audiences aren't very familiar with? I don't think so. This would be the equivalent of casting a Backstreet Boy as Tony Stark.

If they're looking to make a movie starring a female hero, they damn well better make Wonder Woman first.

personally i wouldnt cast her. I would look around more. i saw her performance on SNL and tho it was live i still think she doesnt look the part. I would rather have a girl with some muscle too. not massive muscles but at least gymnast size proportions.

You find the video "I want it that way", you find the one named Kevin in the trenchcoat, and you tell me that didn't look like Sean Chen's Tony Stark from Heroes Return.

Swift is like, over 6' tall, I think she can pull something off. Either Kara or even an amazon like Cassie or a young Donna/Diana.

No disrespect to Taylor Swift...but i think that Hayden Girl from Heroes would be a better choice for a supergirl series then her... LOL!

And that may bot even be the BEST for the role either...

Sorry but no thanks for Swift...

If it wasn't for Jamie Foxx I NEVER would've even Heard of Taylor Swift or even paid attention to that Award show at all...

Taylor Swift is a talented artist, if allowed she may suprise a lot of people. Singers can be actors. Cher, a singer, is an Oscar winner. If they did decide for a female superhero, I'd much rather see Wonder Woman. Katy Perry looks like a clone of Lynda Carter and she would be my pick.

I don't care what character they use to get the ball rolling on, so long as this leads to more characters being developed. Hell, Marvel didn't really kick off till Blade got released. The dude was a forth stringer for crying out loud.

nobody is going to go see a movie staring any female super hero. There is no appeal to the average guy to see a chick beat up a bunch of dudes. I for one would never go to see a wonder woman movie and look how well elektra and catwoman did.

This won't happen. It's pretty obvious that Swift won't play Supergirl, I don't think that WB, even though they have their heads up their asses when it comes to DC films, are THAT stupid.

Swift is 5'11" BTW.

Taylor certainly could pull off the look, not to sure about her acting ability yet tho. I liked the girl from Smallville as Supergirl personally. But they should really be focused on a new SuperMAN movie in my opinion

I own the Supergirl movie and my all time favorite Michael J. Fox movie was "The Secret of my Success" which also starred Helen Slater. I remembered her to be sooooo beautiful and i just saw her recently in the fourth season of Supernatural. I had no idea how many years had passed. She's practically unrecognisable!!! She still looked like a decent 50 year old MILF but damn... such a surprise.

I think she is the perfect build for supergirl. Petite and gorgeous but with that Kryptonian punch with some acting lessons and a good graphics team, it could make me believe a hot blonde chick could fly.

I think Swift is a talented singer but lets wait on giving her a big screen role. As for how a Supergirl movie would do dont compare it to catwoman and Eletkra cuz i thought both of those sucked. If you got the right actress a good script and a good director a Supergirl film could do very well. But i think another Superman should be done first before Supergirl. Then maybe WW or Supergirl in what ever order. I do agree with the earlier post Katy perry has nice ****.

I'd have to see her act first. I'm not gonna say nay to her though. Remember when Will Smith was just a rapper who played the Fresh Prince (not that it was a bad show, FP was awesome) Never expected him to become the serious actor he is today.

The problem is that if they do a Supergirl movie, they'll probably end up leaving out Superman. The fact remains that if you don't show Superman in the film, you're gonna piss fans off. We all know that if they make this movie, it will be just like the 80s Supergirl movie--no Superman. Lame.

I actually prefer Will Smith in Fresh Prince than in any other film he's made. I'm REALLY NOT a fan of his. Yes... i've seen all the films he's been in that people rave about. I still hate him.

Shaman nice pic as usual...Im surprised you dont like any of Will Smith's work. Bad Boys, Enemy of the State,Pursuit of Happiness and I could go on. He's done well for an ex-kool-aid rapper and CLOWN of Fresh Prince. Well to each it's own that's what make's the world an interesting place. We all have diffrent reasons why we like or dislike something or someone.
