Green Lantern Concept Art: Kilowog, Tomar-Re & Abin Sur

Only days after director Martin Campbell confirmed the appearances of three of the most well know Green Lanterns in the film, we get a taste of how they may look on screen.



Through a confidential source, Matt McGloin of CosmicBookNews.com has confirmed that these are in fact official concept art for the DC feature film Green Lantern.

Kilowog




No actors have been linked to the roles yet, but with production officially starting March we should hear news very soon. The big question now is whether the studio wants these characters to be brought to the big screen solely with the use of CGI. If so, they might only be looking for voice talent and not actors of particular stature.

Love all the designs. Tomar-Re actually doesn't look cheesey, and that's a big accomplishment in my eyes.

I vote for actors in suits with CGI for the details.

Tomar Rey looks great! I remember we were worried about how they would pull him off. Kilowog looks a bit..slimy, sort of too much like a slug or something, but not too bad.

These look pretty awesome. Tomar-re is especially impressive. Kilowag looks cool, but I think his jawline should have more definition so he looks more muscular instead of fat.

Guys, how can you be focusing on a fan art poster that has been shown here numerous times?

@Ror: Yeah, Tomar was my biggest concern. If this is what he'll actually look like, I'll be more than happy with it. I especially like how the suits are different. That would add a lot of character to the film if the GL's suits vary.

If the CGI/costumes are done well with characters like these then the movie will be a real visual treat! I may not be the biggest GL fan but I'm really looking forward to this movie! I'll just have to try and pick up a few Green Lantern graphic novels before 2011, lol!

I hope they get Doug Jones for Tomar-Re. It seems foolish not to use his talents in some capacity for this movie.

For Abin Sur they don't really need make-up, just use an actor and use make-up to give him purple/pink skin. Not complicated.

Tomar-Re can be done using prosthetic stuff, look at Abe Sapien like dog said. They can use a CGI touch here though, but, for the most part, it isn't needed.

Get a stunt-man for Kilowog, a big stunt-man, and put him in a suit, then use CGI for most of the head details. And get Clancy Brown for the voice.

Outstanding I love the concept art. . Now lets hope a decent adversary is put in the film. Hector Hammond to me is just to Blasted weak a Character. and Please correct me if I am wrong But I heard Sinestro may not be in this film.

they don't really need a villian for the first movie. they could just have hal figure out how to be a lantern and then do some missions

Hawkfan: Sinestro will be in the film, but he won't be revealed as the big villain until a sequel. They're building up his arc and keeping him as a mentor in the first GL, to save him for later.

hawkfan876@ sinestro has been cast, he just wont be the villain, he will start off good like in the comics. As far as i know Legion is meant to be the other villain in the film.

I could live with these designs. Now for some more official stuff :P

i really don't see will smith as captain america. but i do see him a john stewart!!!!!! green lantern could be better than star wars and avatar put together. blackest night prophecy is so bad ass. please dive into the story of built on emotions, action, and space. i see DC next big trilogy. imagine watch the discovery channel on planets, space, and stars. the imagery slap with hollywood best will smith and ryan reynolds etc. storyline knee deep with different corps, midget gaurdains, sex women, and creatures from all over the universe.

Do you guys remember Mr. Wink from Hellboy II? He was the big monster with the robot hand that Hellboy fought in the market... He was just a guy in a suit and he was fantastic, I could see kilowog being the same way.

Wow this is amazing Multi good find. After I heard the news of THEHAWK I needed some enlightenment from my sorrow and this is getting me happy again. I can live with all the designs especially abin sur and tomar! Kilowag ain't too shabby, it's fine jus hope they can put more emphasis on his chin to make him look a brute rather than a chubby alien but he still looks swell. TheHawk is proud of these amazing news keep em comin.

Looks great. Minor suggestion: here Kilowog face looks slightly like "pug" than a bull dog. I suggest less dome head and more jaw -- more "Hippo like.

@ thwhtGuardian--Yes Mr. Wink of Hellboy II. I guess I can even appreciate it if the producers would opt to using the effects in Hellboy II.

I think Tomar-Re shouldnt look so evil. Hes more of a hero a a funny looking character in the books.

These are shaping up to be something special. Green Lantern is going to be a sci-fi epic!

We’ve got Reynolds for Hal Jordon and Mark Strong for Sinestro.

I think Vin Diesel has what it takes to voice a CGI Kilowog.

I’d like to see Abin Sur played masterfully by Liam Neeson.

Why does everyone fan cast Bradley Cooper as Guy?
I mean, he's funny and all, but A) Doesn't look the part and B) isn't even the best choice.
Nathan Fillon or Dennis Leary are the two best candidates for Guy IMO. And besides, him, John and Kyle wouldn't be in the first movie anyhow. Hal was the first earthling to be a green lantern wasn't he?

Apparently, Warner Bros. has tapped Sony Pictures Imageworks to do the CGI for Green Lantern, and given their history (Watchmen, Spider-Man 3, Beowulf, etc.) there's a very strong possibility that the alien characters in Green Lantern are going to be motion capture CGI in many instances.

WOW! I'm very pleased to see those concept arts!
The three aliens look so real cheesyless and true to the comic I can't believe it!

But there is another thing that pops up anc makes me joyce: the GL suit they are wearing are AWESOME! I had some fears about them being not true to the comic or too cheesy on the screen but if only Ryan is going to wear something similar I'm more than OK!

Great art, I love all the models. Let’s hope they can make them look real on screen. Lighting your comment is out of place, Killowog is an alien, he’s neither American, nor Arab nor Mexican. So he could be play by any talented actor regardless of its origin. I bet you wouldn’t have a problem if Killowog was played by a British actor.

And about the slavery topic, Mexicans were slaves of the Spanish Empire for 300 years.

And given the fact that the only reason any of these aliens appear to be speaking english is due to the ring Hal wears translating them, and seeing as Hal is the mr macho american man type, it makes sense that he'd hear most of these dudes as likewise american.

Lighting, you have clearly expressed that you can’t imagine a Mexican playing Killowoog, because his ring would emulate Hal’s speak pattern. But can you imagine Ch’p speaking like “Mr. Macho American man”?

If Hal’s ring is the only English reference these aliens have, and the only reason they all speak English is because their power rings translates the language for them, they would all have Hal’s voice. The anatomical characteristics of each one of them wouldn’t matter, science what we will be hearing would be their thoughts throughout the ring and not their vocal cords. That would be very accurate, but extremely boring, so I bet a different actor would be assign to voice each character, and they would have different tones and accents.

And Thunder if your ancestors were slaves for hundreds of years you would have been born exhausted as well.

Will Smith IS NOT John Stewart. He does not embody that character whatsoever. Also, if there's going to be 2 human Lanterns there's no way you'll see Guy in this flick. The youth growing up today thinks GL is a blackman because of the JL cartoon. The last thing you need is a redundant white Lantern to confuse things more than they will be seeing Hal. It would be nice to see them give Stewart the Rhodes/War Machine treatment like in Iron Man. Set him up for part 2 if there's one. I actually believe JS is a more interesting character than Hal but that's just my opinion. Again, Hell No to Will Smith as JS. They need a mid to late 20's noname for that role. Someone with the swag to pull it off. Smith is too old and every character he plays he ends up playing himself. He has ZERO range.

Abin Sur actually looks a little too fierce in the eyes in that pic. According to the story, Abin Sur was a very benevolent presence even though he looked weird, and you could see it in his face. Perhaps his corneas will be black and his irises will be a golden color to still give him that weird pupil appearance?
And no offense to John Stewart, he's m'ah BOY!, but this new generation needs to have a flat-out history lesson about Hal Jordan. If it wasn't for Hal, John wouldn't have known what he had to live up to or work for. John respected Hal, big-time. On top of that, Hal Jordan was the hero in the DC universe who introduced racial tolerance, before EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Ipso-facto--you don't like Hal, then you don't like John, period.

P.S. Will Smith.....If I hear that [expletive deleted]'s name one more time as a suggestion for a super-hero role... I'll start a boycott. He was Hancock, it was done, let it die.
