According to BigShinyRobot.com, their reliable source in the Paramount/Marvel confirmed that the studio is indeed only considering unknowns/television actors to portray Captain America on the big screen.

"Apparently, when the script came in with World War II sequences (featuring the Invaders), the studio heads decided it was beyond their means to make this movie AND afford A-listers like Brad Pitt and Matt Damon."

The source, who remains unnamed, specifically pointed out Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Ryan McPartlin (Chuck) and Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) as being among the top choices.




We've already heard from other sites that both Murray and McPartlin have potentially read for the role, but this is the first (albeit unofficial) word that fan-favorite Jensen Ackles is in serious consideration.

It looks like we'll have to wait until March 1st to find out solid news regarding this casting. Until then let's follow an age-old CBM tradition and put it to a vote!

I was gonna post this, but I figured someone else was going to. Interesting trio. My problem with this is that they said that they wanted an "unknown" to play the part. I'm not sure I'd call these guys "unknown."

Great stuff. Looks like we're getting closer.

Go ackles!!! im not a big fan of the other two though??? My only problem with getting an unknown is the international market. Without a big name actor idk if Cap will do well outside the us...but who cares!!! lol America!!!!!

@Multi- I saw it over on darkhorizons who had linked back to BigShineyRobot as well. I just figured one of you all-stars would post it. LOL, I guess I need to sack up and just go for it next time.

I'm not huge on any one of them, I guess Ackles is the lesser of evils, but he's bow-legged. I don't want a bow-legged Cap!

I'm happy with McPartlin or Ackles Just not Murray!

Cant wait til the 1st though!! Wonder if they'll choose a 4th name and surprise us all!

My preferences go directly from left to right in those pictures. McPartlin is the best visually, we simply haven't seen him in enough stuff to gauge his versatility, but he's got the physical presence and looks. Ackles is okay, he just doesn't quite seem like he can carry off the part, but I'd be willing to give him a chance. Chad, though? Please don't make me throw up. Sorry Chad is an absolute no-go.

Holy Shit!!!!!! Jensen Ackles Is actually in the top 3 choices for Captain America. WOW. I guess Marvel is intrested in pulling off a CW actor and give him the role of Captain America. lol. It would be great news for the fans who wants him to play the role. Jensen Ackles already address the issue of the rumor back in September.

I have 2 problems with this news.

1. It was only yesterday or the day before when Johnston himself said we are tossing arround 5 or 6 names we are down to.

I like all three but No to Murray as Captain. And yes they aren't unknown but they aren't getting the BIG roles either. So I can consider them unknown. I like both Ackles and Captain Awesome. So who ever gets it I'll be happy with I just want to know who they are gonna cast.

Even though I don't care for Eckles , him and ryan have similar features voices and acting chops.

What director would group Murray in with those two? He doesn't fit at all.

I'm not in favor of any of them. It'll make the modern Cap look younger than Toby Maguire. Why the hell would Thor or Iron Man remotely listen to this guy as a legit member of the Avengers, let alone follow him into a battle? Maybe decent casting for a young smartass Hawkeye (who I would prefer to round out the Avengers cast as the black sheep of the group), but not Cap. But I am torn, because the mention of the Invaders as part of the WWII story-line does make me happy and if I have to choose between Pine/Damon or Invaders, I'm honestly forced to lean towards the Invaders.
