No Captain America for Michael Cassidy?

One of the actors on the infamous Captain America short-list won't be wielding the shield.

Last week, Micheal Cassidy's name appeared on a short-list of contenders for the role of the Star Spangled Avenger along with John Krasinski, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel and Chace Crawford. The list has not been confirmed by Marvel Studios, but a statement last week by Mike Vogel does hint that it holds some validity.

Cassidy, who's most remembered for appearances on Smallville and The O.C., just released this statement via Twitter:

The film's director, Joe Johnston, had stating that a casting decision would be made by March 1st, 2010. If Cassidy has received word from the studio that he did not get the role, it's safe to assume that the decision has been made and the official announcement is forthcoming.

Though several sites have stated that this account does indeed belong to the actor, it has yet to be verified by Twitter.

WORLDS FINEST!!
Anil Rickly - 3/4/2010, 8:50 PM
Haven't seen him act, I take it he's not impressive.

Oh yeah, just an FYI Marvel, you're already 3 days late with an announcement. That's like 3 dollars at Blockbuster. Give us each 3 dollars! >:O

But seriously, I'm betting that it's going to be Krasinski. If he is cast, I'm going to be laughig like Mark Hamill's Joker at the chaos that will unfold. It shall be a glorious display of destruction and mayhem. Glorious, I tell you!
InTylerWeTrust - 3/4/2010, 8:53 PM

marvel is'nt late they said they would have cap cast by march 1st never said anything about announcing it
P862010 - 3/4/2010, 9:01 PM
damn all the good choices are leaving. This makes the possibility for Krasinsk or Crawford greater. NOOO!
Starsapphire - 3/4/2010, 9:08 PM
On the subject of John Krasinski and Chace Crawford.I would think Marvel wouldn't want to hire an actor who already has a steady job on a popular TV series. One, because that actor is already associated with another character, which will make it difficult to see him as Captain America.Especially Krasinski, who has been playing a comical character for the last 5 years. And 2, I'm not entirely sure of TV actors' schedules, but they shoot off and on from about July-March/April.I don't know how flexible there schedules can be, but that could be a problem splitting time between two.And on top of that, the movie will be shooting in London.

Then there's the Avengers.I'd imagine they would have to start very early next year, and since it will be a huge movie, who knows how long filming will last.

When it comes down to it, there are just too many other actors they could hire without having to deal with the hassle of someone who has another job.

That also goes for Jensen Ackles and Ryan McPartlin.
tazmaniak - 3/4/2010, 9:14 PM
i think they'd go for a bigger screen actor...such as vogel...or pine :)

it's vogel all the way now

kenny makes sense
Anil Rickly - 3/4/2010, 9:16 PM
...ahahahaha.. as if he had a real chance anyways.
InFamouslyCool - 3/4/2010, 10:01 PM
come on just say who cap is not who he isn't! i'm getting more tired of this than spidey reboot! although i do wish they would say what they are going to call it!
otherside - 3/4/2010, 10:23 PM
It's going to be Garrett Hedlund.
Avenger53 - 3/4/2010, 10:26 PM
CAN SOMEONE MAKE THE LIST OF POSSIBLES
GUNSMITH - 3/4/2010, 10:36 PM
@GUNSMITH

1.) Garret Hedlund-has an open schedule... is already doing a movie for Disney... acted alongside well known stars.

2.) John Krasinski-has a television series that will be in production during Cap's shooting schedule... supposedly Johnston's pick.

3.) Chace Crawford-also has a television show in production at the time of Cap's shooting schedule... looks too "pretty"

4.) Scott Porter-has an open schedule (he is no longer a regular on Friday Night Lights as of the end of this season)... has little to no acting experience in major motion pictures.

5.) Mike Vogel-too short (only 5'10")... sucks as an actor

6.) Ryan McPartlin-too old for the age range Johnston gave... also will have a show in production during Cap's shoot.

7.) Chad Michael McMurray- HELL NO!!!
Avenger53 - 3/4/2010, 10:46 PM
I want to root for Krasinski but I just can't do it....yet

I like Porter but he just signed on to do a tv show called Nomads so thats not a good sign.
DogsOfWar - 3/4/2010, 10:46 PM
One down, several to go.
gtrman - 3/4/2010, 10:50 PM
It's going to be Hedlund... Tron Legacy's trailer will be released tomorrow with Alice in Wonderland... Marvel/Disney will want to release the news of Hedlund being picked as Cap tomorrow in order to garner even more interest in Tron Legacy (he is the star after all)... people will want to know who this kid is and therefore they will want to check out Tron (since it will be released before Cap).
Avenger53 - 3/4/2010, 10:52 PM
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if an official shot of Thor will be released either this weekend or early next week (Jaime Alexander did say they were about to do a full costume photo shoot on her Twitter account) couple all this with the new Iron Man 2 trailer being released this Sunday, and you've got yourself a great marketing strategy.
Avenger53 - 3/4/2010, 10:55 PM
@Avenger53
All that is a strong possibility. Here's another one...

Who they get for Cap is going to make people here weep openly.
gtrman - 3/4/2010, 11:00 PM
Yeah... there are a lot of diverse opinions on exactly who should wield the shield... not everyone will be happy. If it is Hedlund at least the venom will probably be kept to a minimum... there really hasn't been much "yay" or "nay" regarding his name whenever it comes up in talkbacks.
Avenger53 - 3/4/2010, 11:05 PM
Who is going to be Cap?
superheromoviefan - 3/4/2010, 11:13 PM
Can they just say John k. didn't get it so i can go to sleep with a sound mind. Out of all the articles that came out about Cap NOBODY and i mean NOBODY wants "Jim" to get it.
Peteyparker - 3/5/2010, 12:17 AM
I can handle HEDLUND getting the part
or MIKE VOGEL who looks the part but
Krasinski? If Krasinski is the one and
Johnston likes him for Cap then it makes
me question the judgement of Johnston
and his ability to direct THE ONE AND
ONLY CAPTAIN AMERICA!

If Johnston REALLY IS favoring Krasinksi
(which is only a damm rumor right now)
then it makes me very worried for the
CAPTAIN AMERICA movie! VERY WORRIED!
DDD - 3/5/2010, 12:23 AM
i'm more guessing that the famous shortlist we are talking about where just some guy's who did a screen test for the part. And these names just leaked out.

Im my opinion they allready casted somebody but are just waiting to tell who. Probably gonna be a total different name then one of the "fab five" :p

someone who can stand next to samuel jackson, RDJ, ed norton and chris hemsworth. would be totally awfull if it's a nobody who yells "avengers assemble!" and none of the others listen to him :D

it must be an actor with a strong personality who stands out against the others!
yowsaman - 3/5/2010, 12:44 AM
Another one bites the dust :P

Krasinski Sucks :D
teabag - 3/5/2010, 2:30 AM
Ah well. Good going for him for trying. I'm still back Porter for the role, but knowing our luck that Krasinski MOTHER F.U.C.K.E.R. IS GONNA GET IT :(

PORTER FOR CAP!
Shocker - 3/5/2010, 2:44 AM
He was always pretty average in Smallville so Id say this was pretty damned good news! Fingers crossed that pudding faced Krasinski is the next one to drop out of the running! :P

Guys, check out my new ASTONISHING X-MEN Fan Cast!!! Just click the link!
JoshW - 3/5/2010, 3:33 AM
a massive no to Krasinski, im past the point of frustration with this now :<
ukboy28 - 3/5/2010, 3:48 AM
Another one is gone,

Another one bites the dust.

Krasinski, would be the epitome of Epic Fail choices for Cap, or any high caliber super hero casting.
SirPrize - 3/5/2010, 4:25 AM
well i read the full internvieuw again with joe johnsson about the casting of cap. and the clearly states that they HOPE! to find an unknow actor to play captain america.

so this means it aint sure that one of the shortlist guy's are really going to be cast as cap.

lets hope marvel astonish us like they did with the thor casting :)

it's even verry odd that they havent announced who's casted yet. this must surely mean..
a) they havent found him yet
b) there (fuc)cking with us
c) the movie aint going to happen :p

yowsaman - 3/5/2010, 4:35 AM
oh and the people who are running the casting are the same people who cast RDJ as Iron man, Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, so far they have a pretty good record of good castings if they decide to cast Krasinski it's either:
a) He was the best out of the bunch (doubt that)
b) They just see this casting as another paycheck (AKA they don't really care)
C) if Joe Johnson has anything to do with it, I fear it will have something to do with nepotism (giving sombody certain advantages/roles just because he's friend of yours)

C seems the least likely, and I still pray to god that Marvel makes the right decision.
Starsapphire - 3/5/2010, 5:32 AM
I'm still rooting for Jensen Ackles till the end!!! BUT... if Marvel sticks to their list, it better be Vogel. Anybody else on that list would suck!

Oh gaaawwwwwd, the outrage is going to be awfull!!! It'll be like the end of Raiders of the Lost Arch when they opened it!!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DDDDIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

TheJester - 3/5/2010, 7:08 AM
Judging from your comments, it appears you are all basing your casting requirements for Cap as a pretty boy with a lantern jaw. Why in God's name would you want WB pretty boy "actors" cast as Captain America? Is this website funded by Tiger Beat? You want an actor, not a face. Maybe Krasinski is not the best choice, but he's a far better actor than any of these Momma's boys you guys have picked out.

You wanna know what the biggest coincidence is? A day before the unfamous Cap wish list was released I made a wish that I would rather have Cap be played by the worst actor ever for the role than get a bad grade on my math test. Suprise suprise I got a good grade on the test but then the whole Krasinski/Crawford cap thing started. Now everytime I get a good grade on anything some bad news about the Cap movie comes out, but when I get a poor grade something good comes out. Talk about coincidence/irony.
Starsapphire - 3/5/2010, 9:00 AM
i was watchin a movie called "Below" last night and thought this guy, Matthew Davis, would make a pretty good Caps!

HelaGood - 3/5/2010, 9:01 AM
@ Avenger53

I AGREE. Everyone, listen, it is going to be HEDLUND. Here's why. Take it from someone who is in marketing..

-Disney decides to finally create a sequel to the cult class, Tron
-Disney casts Garret Helund to essentially star in the HIGHLY anticipated sequel to Tron, TRON: LEGACY
-Disney purchases MARVEL
-Marvel casts Hedlund to star in the highly anticipated, The First Avenger: Captain America

Does it not make sense? Forget the Jansen Ackles BS...hedlund would be a GREAT pick...

1) He's tall, blonde and square jawed (6 1' 1/2")

2) He's shared the screen with actors like Brad Pitt(Troy), Wahlberg (Four Brothers), Kevin Bacon (Death Sentence)

3) Disney obviously believes this guy can act and carry a movie with a lot on its shoulders

Net, net...this guy can act. Don't believe me? Go see DEATH SENTENCE. When the movie is over, you'll realize his acting was so good you could barely tell who he was even playing.

This would be a great pick... Go Hedlund!

WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:04 AM
@Starsapphire - I think I speak for most here when I say: I hope you fail this semester!!!!

WingPow - there is logic in your rationale, however I don't agree that Hedlund is a good pick and hope that Scott Porter is our man (Although I am still foolishly hoping it's McParlin ...)
McLovin - 3/5/2010, 9:11 AM
@wingpow
Beware though, all the choices from the list that the fans have wanted have been revealed to not be chosen. Jensen Ackles (well he wasn't officially on the list, but he probably did audition), Scott Porter, Michael Cassidy, who knows Hedlund could be next. Oh and Hedlund sounds like a way better choice for Cap than f-ing Shrek (aka Krasinski) and Tween idol pretty boy (aka Crawford). :)
Starsapphire - 3/5/2010, 9:12 AM
@ McLovin

Why is he not a good pick? He's got the look, the voice and the acting chops.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:12 AM
I'm telling you guys, go see Death Sentence.... The guy with the shaved head, yea...that's Hedlund. He can act.

I would love it if they chose him.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:13 AM
@mclovin
ehh...no. I just hope that Marvel makes the right decision.
Starsapphire - 3/5/2010, 9:13 AM
out of all the actors that are supposedly up for the role I would give it to Mike Vogel. He seems like he'd be a good Captain America.
GreenLanternSector2814 - 3/5/2010, 9:15 AM
It may be Vogel, but I doubt it.

Like I said above, Hedlund makes A LOT of sense.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:21 AM
but Hedlund's not even in the running is he?
GreenLanternSector2814 - 3/5/2010, 9:24 AM
He seems? Why?

I do not think he would be a good Cap'.I haven't seen anything from his acting that would dictate otherwise. He's also short. He's listed as 5'10", but Jessica Biel is 5'8" and he barely peaked her in Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:26 AM
Reports are that "Hedlund hasn't screen tested for the role yet...."

But really what does this mean? Nothing. First off, like everythign else, it's purely rumor.

Besides, like I said... Hedlund is starring in one of the most anticipated movies of the last decade TRON: LEGACY. Who's producing this movie? Disney!

Who now owns Disney? Marvel. You better believe that if Disney has any sway in the choice, it won't matter.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:28 AM
reverse that, Disney owns Marvel.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:29 AM
Starsapphire@ - Just messing with you ;-) I also hope they make the right decision, but the longer this goes on, the less confident I am of that outcome ...

WingPow@ - I don't know Wing, I have not seen Death Sentence but I have seen him act and it's not that he is a bad actor, I just can't see him playing Steve Rogers the way he should be played. When I look at this guy, he does not come across as the Sentinel of Liberty. I look at this guy and aesthetically he looks like a douche. He may be a good actor, but can he act his way out of that douchy look he's got? IDK ...
McLovin - 3/5/2010, 9:31 AM
Also, someone pointed out in the above that it would make perfect sense to announce GARRET HEDLUND as Captain America while also releasing the first trailer for TRON LEGACY. That person is right.

It's called VIRAL MARKETING...

First, between TRON and Captain America, you have a similar target audience.... geeks like us. You release the trailer and make an announcment soon there after. that the star of the trailer is also going to be the start of Captain America.

Creates a buzz. People start talking. Who's this actor? He's starring in Tron and Captain America.

If I was going to cast Hedlund, this is exactly how I would announce it.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:32 AM
Hedlund is still in the running... there was the matter that he was chaffing at Marvel's asking price (something that can easily be negotiated with Disney now in the mix... especially if they are impressed with the Tron Legacy dailies)... Krasinski could still get it, but I feel the only reason he is in the running is due to him being Johnston's pick... BUT ultimately, it will come down to who Disney/Marvel want.
Avenger53 - 3/5/2010, 9:34 AM
@WingPow

That was me too.
Avenger53 - 3/5/2010, 9:34 AM
Well regardless of who they pick I'm sure they will make them a good Captain America. No matter who has been cast as a Marvel character, they have done a pretty decent job of making it believable no matter if the movie sucked or not. So I will be happy with the decision as long as they make the freaking movie already and get this casting crap over with.
GreenLanternSector2814 - 3/5/2010, 9:35 AM
I like how you think, Avenger53. More often than not, it comes down to who's got the money. Who's got the money= who's got the power.

If Disney is impressed with him in Tron Legacy (and they must be) and they want him as Cap'. He'll be Cap' And if they want to announce it right, they'll announce it not long after the new Tron:Legacy trailer gets released.

If they pick Hedlund, I will be pleased. he's got the height, look and most importantly, acting chops. Plus, he'd be going into this movie off of the (hopefuly good) wake of Tron:Legacy.

In other words, he will become a name in Hollywood (much like Chris Pine), but without the price tag. This will help sell the movie without digging to deep into the budget.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 9:39 AM
I OWN Death Sentence and Hedlund is AMAZING in it. He's still not Captain America material! In fact, there's NOTHING about ANY performances he's ever done that remotely shows that he has what it takes to play Steve Rogers accurately. I love Tim Roth as an actor and that guy couldn't sell me Steve Rogers if his life depended on it! Some people are just not made for certain roles. It goes beyond being a great actor. He doesn't look the part at all, the same way as Dicaprio! Hedlund is tall and lengthy with a kid's face on!!! That's not Captain America in my book. He wouldn't look commanding even after 20 years of experience in the military!!! He just doesn't have it! It's simply not in him!!! And after Tron: Legacy, he'll have the same price tag as Pine. It might make sense for Disney to pic Hedlund but it would still be a wrong choice.

Jensen Ackles is the perfect Captain America physically as well as performance wise!!! He has PROVEN it on every single episode of Supernatural, wether you're a fan of it/him or not. He's tried, tested and true!!!

But if i had to choose ONLY from the short list, i'd pic A MAN! Not a boy like Hedlund. Krazinski sucks as Steve Rogers yet i'd pic him over Hedlund. Vogel would be the best choice of the short list with probably the lowest price tag of them all. They'd need to invest in wood blocks for his boots but he is still the best choice from all the crapy names on the last short list.
Shaman - 3/5/2010, 10:17 AM
maybe but most Hollywood people are short Shaman so they will make it work as usual. I'm sure they won't screw MUCH up because this will probably be the biggest Marvel product to date and for years to come. I mean its Captain America then the Avengers.

One iconic figure that's been around since WWII and one of the greatest Marvel teams of all time. And I see u are still holding on to Ackles for Cap huh? At least you are dedicated. I myself would've like to have seen Ryan McPartlin but I will be happy whoever they pick as long as they make the damn film already.
GreenLanternSector2814 - 3/5/2010, 10:44 AM
"Jensen Ackles is the perfect Captain America physically as well as performance wise!!! He has PROVEN it on every single episode of Supernatural, wether you're a fan of it/him or not. He's tried, tested and true!!!"

Touche. There's nothing about Jensen Ackles performances on Super Natural that make him worthy of Steve Rogers. He's a rigid actor and does not show versatility. He's good at one thing, tough guy.

That's my argument with Hedlund, he's versatility. Sure maybe he hasn't show it YET that he can be a good Captain America, but he has shown a lot of versatility in his acting. That's my point.

Before The Dark Knight, did Ledger show us anything paticular about his previous acting experiences to warrant the role of THE JOKER? No. Yet a lot of us had faith in him because we all knew he had the versatility. Same goes for how he looks.

And I totally disagree about Hedlund looking like a boy. Look at the below clip, how does he come off as a kid's face?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTXUwlh2g1w

(for those of you who don't know, he's the guy talking to Kevin Bacon, "you look like one of us)

Besides, Shaman, you're forgetting the fact that before he becomes Captain America he has to be believable as a wimpy Steve Rogers. That takes versatility. I do NOT think Ackles has this ability.

WingPow - 3/5/2010, 10:48 AM
GreenLanternSector2814- Well Jensen's my first pic but i'm willing for others if they fit the part. I just feel Hedlund doesn't look it one bit and hasn't shown us anything worthy of the role yet. He has shown that he can be an ASTOUNDING Bucky though. He's totally my first pic for Bucky/Winter Soldier!!! But yeah, i just wish they cast someone already! Even if it is Hedlund LOL ;P

WingPow- LOL, yes i still own Death Sentence and i still feel like all the facial hair in the world couldn't take away his baby face LOL. But you do raise a good point about versatility. But since he hasn't shown us he can be Steve Rogers YET, i just can't pull for him. He would totally knock sickly steve out of the park, that's a given! But Captain America? I don't see it one bit. I'll never root for Hedlund the same way you'll never root for Jensen. I just hope that IF Hedlund is Cap, that he pulls it off ACURATELY!!! I don't wanna have to regret spending my hard earned cash on the mother of all [frick] ups! Cause sickly steve has about 20 lines at the most. After that, it's a nine film contract as Steve Rogers so the chosen one better be DAMN good! In my book, until proven otherwise, Hedlund isn't Captain America material.
Shaman - 3/5/2010, 10:50 AM
I can still see Ackles as Hawkeye but at the same time, if Jeremy Renner was in the running for that role as well, I can see that too. But I'm not holding my breath for him even being in the movie.
GreenLanternSector2814 - 3/5/2010, 11:02 AM
Shaman-
Fair enough. Guess it just comes down to faith then, eh?

It wasn't just facial hair that made Hedlund look older in Death Sentence. It was the whole character he brought to the screen... his facial expressions, his voice, his demeanor...

I wasn't a fan of Hedlund either until I saw Death Sentence. He showed a lof of versatility in this role. I TOTALLY 100% bought into him as a hard ass. That's how I picture Cap'... leading troops through battle, as a harden warrior.

Then when I realized Disney had enough faith in him to case an unkonwn like him in the lead of Tron: Legacy, it all made sense to me.

This is a guy who can play both the weakling Steve Rogers and the hard-ass leader, captain america.

WingPow - 3/5/2010, 11:05 AM
MARK VALLEY MARK VALLEY SIS BOOM BAH...

..IF HE CAN'T DO IT..ERRR..SIS BOOM BAH
GUNSMITH - 3/5/2010, 11:23 AM
WingPow- I think he was freakin' brilliant in Death Sentence. He's a total hard ass but to me, he's still a young looking one at that. He looked like a hardened teen leader of a street gang. Not a millitary leader. But i see what you're getting at. The "fierceness" he displayed is what you'd like for Cap and so does everyone else. But the fierceness alone isn't enough IMO. Leo Dicaprio has proven the ability to showcase the same fierceness yet i'll still never see him as Cap. And you know what? The reason you want Hedlund as Cap is the same reason i want him as Bucky. So he can turn evil as the winter soldier and go at it head on against Cap! That'd make an excellent sequel IMO. I'd love to see Ackles and Hedlund in combat :))
Shaman - 3/5/2010, 11:50 AM
No Ackles. Unlike everyone else here, I don't think Ackles is the right pick at all..

Hedlund is 25 btw. While filming is taking place, he'll be 26.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 12:14 PM
Ackles would better off as hawkeye or booster gold or someone.
Joey Misfit - 3/5/2010, 12:28 PM
Yes, agreed. Ackles does not have what it takes to carry a movie of this caliber on his shoulders.

He never will.
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 12:44 PM
Porter isn't going to be Cap' anymore either. It's been confirmed:

@gunsmith - that pic of mark valley looks perfect!

rockstar@ Yeah, perfect for Captain's father. Valley is too weathered and wrinkled to play Cap. Give it up, Gunsmith, we already know Valley is way too old for the part. ;-)

Okay...I was thinking about this and this is why I think Vogel will be cast as Cap. Both Scott and Michael both voiced the fact they didn't get the role but Vogel said he read for the part and nothing else has been heard. And both Chace and Krasinski haven't even mentioned reading for it. Which means they might not really be even up for the part. So it might be a crude thought but that's why think he was cast. But then again, I could be wrong. Guess we will see.
